“We are looking forward to adding a million users on the platform in the first 3-5 months” – Piyush Kulshreshtha, Founder & CEO, KhulKe

Piyush Kulshreshtha

Interview with Piyush Kulshreshtha, Founder & CEO, KhulKe

  1. Why the name KhulKe? What was the idea behind starting the KhulKe app?

KhulKe, simply means Openly. In India, this phrase is often used in a conversation when people want others to speak freely, clearly, and in detail so that others in conversation can make sense.Social media has one of the biggest influences on human society today, so much content is getting generated and consumed and yet, nobody visits social media to make sense of things.Information (sometimes unverified), fleeting remarks from all & sundry, targeted trends, and a lot of such unpleasant behaviour is very much an integral part of the social media experience. Even the best of the minds slips into such behaviour from time to time.

We identified that the structure and approach of social media platforms have a lot to contribute to such mass behaviour and if a conversational platform where culturally users are encouraged to engage in meaningful, powerful conversations with each other’s, where the conversations are moderated by users themselves, then there is certainly a large no of users and communities who would be interested in coming together on KhulKe.We do have other features like microblogging, private messaging, and a short video timeline. We will shortly introduce India’s first Video-based meeting software, which will be embedded within KhulKe in the early days.

  1. How do you compare KhulKe with apps like Twitter, Instagram, Koo, etc.?

KhulKe as a platform integrates far more products than any of these platforms. We are proud that all of it has been developed by Indian Developers sitting in India, with funding from Indian Investors in a venture founded by an Indian.

Some key products on our platform are:

  • RoundTable: Where users can have topical, time-bound, moderated conversations along with a set of audience and use it for podcasting live, interactive sessions with the audience, uploading recorded videos of any length
  • TownHall: This is our microblogging feature that all social media users are familiar with. The only additional aspect here is that users can upload documents along with images, audio, or video.
  • Yapp: This is our private messaging feature where one-to-one chats and audio, or video calls are possible. In a few weeks, group chats along with audio or video calls will also be available. Initially, users will be able to use this product only with KhulKe users and in a few months, they will be able to connect with their Mobile or Email Contacts as well
  • Snip-It: This is our short video timeline where users can upload up to 2:30 mins videos, we hope a lot of informative and DIY videos will be seen in this segment
  • Meeting: Our in-built video-based meeting service, which is as yet unreleased, and unnamed, will be out in the coming weeks or a month

From the range of products integrated on KhulKe, you will find that our entire approach to social media business is very different. This is beyond just status sharing, this is about conversations amongst communities in public and private, casually, or formally but always meaningfully. And that’s why the microfeature on these products will also appear to be well thought out

We are new, and we hope users will find value in such participation

  1. How does KhulKe strategize to continue to differentiate?

The key differentiator for us will be the management & product development approach. We consider ourselves custodians of Free Speech. We are not here to project our ideologies and outlooks. The platform is meant for people, it is meant for communities and apart from the Laws of the Land, KhulKe as a platform will prefer to refrain from complicated Community Guidelines. Instead, we will continue to encourage users to moderate conversations themselves.

  1. Tell us something about the revenue model of KhulKe

Advertising, Sponsored Conversations, CRM, Advisory Services, User Collaborations for Work, and a few other such revenue ideas are being worked upon by our team, but first steps first, at this point we are focusing on establishing our user base.

  1. Any capital raise you are looking at?

We are looking at raising our second round very soon. Our product has to reach the gully-mohallas of India and that will require a considerable investment.

  1. What are the challenges you have been facing in making KhulKe popular in India?

We have spent the last many months testing the platform technically as well as for User Experience, Content, and Marketing. We have gained immensely from these experiments and all the learnings are being implemented in various areas. The product is available in public, anybody can check the content on the platform without the necessity to sign-up. A strong rollout plan is being put in place and you will see our advertising campaign very soon.We are confident that millions of users will want to be part of such an evolved concept.

  1. What are your plans ahead?

We are working on our launch campaign as we speak and thereafter gearing up for the second round of fundraising. We are looking forward to adding a million users on the platform in the first 3-5 months. We are also looking at rolling out a campaign for inviting a large number of content creators who can match our vision for good quality & meaningful content with simple language and interactive formats. An exciting early-stage monetization plan is underway.

Marengo CIMS Hospital for the first time in Gujarat launches the Strokologist Program

Marengo CIMS Hospital for the first time in Gujarat launches the Strokologist Program as a knowledge-sharing initiative with 45 clinical physicians to create an optimized level of stroke care in a network of doctors’ community

Dr. Mukesh Sharma, Director Neurology and Head of the Stroke Program, Marengo CIMS Hospital

Dr. Mukesh Sharma, Director Neurology and Head of the Stroke Program, Marengo CIMS Hospital

New Delhi: Tuesday, 28th February 2023: One of the three largest emergencies that can claim lives is ‘Strokes’. It has been reported that around 600 cases are registered for stroke every day in the state of Gujarat. Out of 15 lakh estimated stroke cases reported in India annually, Gujarat has a major share. Gender-wise, while men who are heavy consumers of junk food, alcohol, and smoking are at high risk, women post-menopause are at a vulnerable risk. Stroke is also attributed to obesity, diabetes, hypertension, consumption of excessive junk food, high cholesterol, alcohol intake, and smoking. India records approximately 15% of stroke incidences in youth below the age of 40 years in strokes. To strengthen the network and mobilize nursing homes, nurses, and support staff, Marengo CIMS Hospital launched the Strokologist Program to train the community of physicians, critical care specialists, and ICU and ER doctors and empower them with the skills for timely diagnosis and treatment as soon as a stroke patient is brought under their care. The Program is led by Dr Mukesh Sharma, HOD Stroke Specialist, Marengo CIMS Hospital.

Dr. Mukesh Sharma, Director Neurology and Head of the Stroke Program, Marengo CIMS Hospital says, “Stroke is increasingly affecting the younger population, contrary to the common perception that it belongs to the older age groups, and lives are lost untimely due to delay in reaching the patient to a medical emergency within a stipulated time. The Program will educate and skill doctors to thrombolyse patients within the golden hour. This will certify the medical professionals as skilled professionals equipped to deal with stroke patients and also increase the capability of the doctors to read the scans appropriately and administer drugs accordingly. We are networking with nursing homes across Ahmedabad in a hub-and-spoke model to make each primary stroke center equipped with advanced technology for immediate medical intervention.”

Dr Raajiv Singhal, Managing Director & Group CEO, Marengo Asia Hospitals said, “In our vision of “Patient First”, every life matters, every minute counts. Timely medical intervention is crucial as a stroke kills about two million brain cells in under a minute. The Strokologist Program is designed to mobilize timely intervention by doctors and to create an impact socially through increased awareness among physicians and people. We are creating an integrated network of nursing homes to introduce advanced technology to elevate the nursing homes as stroke centers with enhanced precision in clinical excellence. The blend of advanced technology with a human touch to expedite the care solutions for stroke patients is of paramount importance. Last, but not least, high-end drugs for clot bursting have been available over the last almost three decades. Yet only two percent of stroke patients are administered these drugs. We are skilling the doctors in understanding the outcome of these drugs and administering them appropriately.”

‘Reaching the right hospital, at the right time for the right treatment’ is a crucial component in changing the outcomes in stroke patients. Marengo CIMS Hospital is aiming to stand strong towards its mission/motto of treating and managing strokes in much improved manner so that more lives can be saved in the country. With the participation of a network of 45 doctors and nursing homes, the team of Neurosciences at Marengo CIMS will train and certify doctors and nurses in batches to bring down disabilities or fatalities in stroke patients significantly. Advanced technology will play a pivotal role in the education of doctors and empower them with tools to be applied for quick responses to critical conditions. Each of these primary networked centers with the technology will help doctors download the data fed into the systems and prepare them to plan the best line of treatment for the patient. In the event of the requirement for further treatment in complex cases, the patient then can be shifted in a stabilized condition to a comprehensive care center. The community of doctors integrated into the network will be connectors for every patient for coming to any doctor certified through this program for the immense and pivotal support it will generate to save more lives.

Around 4000 stroke cases happen daily and not more than even 2 to 3 percent are treated. India currently accounts for 60 percent of stroke patients worldwide. Less than 1 in 4 Indians are aware of stroke symptoms. About three million people die due to strokes each year. Globally, about 6% of all deaths from stroke occur in people 15-49 years old. There are 69 million people living who have experienced stroke. Over 143 million years of healthy life is lost each year due to disability and deaths following a stroke. One in six people are at a risk of experiencing stroke. It is about time that awareness arms people to react quickly in such conditions.

Ram Devotees in Ayodhya from Ramanagara bring the old connection

Ramanagara’s name was based on the historical story of the Ramayana. One place which traces its history to Ramayana is Rama temple near Ramanagara. Local residents still worship at the temple as they believe Lord Rama had walked through this place during vanavasa. His footsteps on the banks of Arkavathi have been “well preserved” even today. Not just that small temple has been constructed to preserve the “scared” footsteps.

Kakasura Betta, which is nearby, also has an interesting legend connected with it. Locals say that when Rama and Sita were exiled to the forest, Kaakasura, a demon, smitten by Sita’s looks, took the form of a crow and began harassing her. When Sita requested Rama to intervene, Rama flung a piece of grass to the crow. The grass turned into an arrow which struck the trouble-making crow, blinding its one eye. Seeing its life in danger, the demon pleaded with Lord Rama to forgive him. Lord Rama did that and in turn also ordered him never to come back on the hillock. Locals claim since then, not a single crow is found in this place.

Hence when Dr Ashwathnarayan recently visited Ayodhya along with silver brick dedication for the upcoming Ayodhya temple. He paid the visit along with 150 local pilgrims from Ramnagara; he did complete justice to this relevance with conviction. As a leader who is not just born into a Hindu family but is a strong practitioner of Hindu ideology. Such godly interventions will bring in added prosperity and growth to the district.

Hinduism teaches that every Hindu should not just respect another Hindu, but all humans above all religious lines, sect, communal and caste divisions. Hinduism preaches cohesiveness and preservation not only of mankind but of all natural resources, animals, and all other species. As per widespread belief & available information, the only religion anywhere in the globe in which nature is worshipped, where trees, birds, and planets are revered in Hinduism. So, when a person claims to be a strong Hindutva leader, he is wanting to become a true humanitarian leader in totality.

Ramanagara is well known for its sericulture, and is nicknamed Silk Town and Silk City. The silk produced in this region forms the input for the famous Mysore Silk. Ramanagara is the largest market for silk cocoons in Asia. The town is not just known for “Sholay” film or local granites but much more.
