Rebuild India Fund Launches Second Cohort of community-based NGOs to support vulnerable communities across India

2nd March 2023 Rebuild India Fund, anchored by Dasra and the Tarsadia Foundation, has announced the launch of its next set of 33 locally-led and community-rooted grassroots NGOs. With this addition, the total number of NGOs working with vulnerable communities across 21 states has reached 56 with an overall impact on approximately 4 million lives. Rebuild India Fund is a $50 million fund committed to providing flexible funding and capacity-building support to 100 new grassroots NGOs each year for five years.

In India, civil society organizations have played a crucial role in solving some of these complex challenges with vulnerable communities. But chronic underfunding limits their ability to deliver impact at scale. To address these challenges, every NGO chosen to be a part of the initiative’s cohort will receive flexible funding of minimum INR 50 lakhs (~$13,500) over a period of five years, enabling them to cover organizational expenses and adapt to their communities’ needs effectively. In addition to this, each organization will receive capacity building support to support resilience building of the organization.

. On receiving flexible funding, our NGO partners are able to respond to urgent and longstanding organizational needs while being able to impact their communities at scale, “We work with tribals living in the disaster-prone region of Gudalur in Tamil Nadu, there can be unexpected expenses and relief work necessary to address immediate needs. The flexibility of using our funds to meet our unexpected needs is something very useful from Rebuild India Fund” – K.T. Subramanian, ACCORD- Action for Community Organisation Rehabilitation and Development.

Selection of our NGO partner s

The selection process for non-profits to the Rebuild Fund is meticulously designed to identify the most grassroot organizations by evaluating them against a basic eligibility criterion, including oragnization’s existing budget and regulatory compliance. The organizations are recommended by networks working at the national and regional level such as Dhwani, GOONJ, RCRC, Womanity, NCDHR, Jan Vikas and others.

The final selection of the NGOs is done by an independent Investment Committee comprising diverse leaders from NGOs and social sector organizations. NGOs that meet compliance criteria, are then assessed using a comprehensive evaluation and ranking method that is anchored in Gender, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion( GEDI) principles that focus on the broad parameters of Leadership of the NGO, Community Centricity of programme design, and Vulnerability of communities served.

All the organizations selected are systematically neglected and face multiple challenges with fundraising, collaborations and exposure to the larger sector. 54% of the cohort NGOs are women-led, while 55% are led by ‘proximate’ leaders, with lived experiences, belonging to communities they serve. All other NGOs are led by ‘inclusive’ leaders from neglected and marginalized communities based on caste and gender.

All the NGOs selected for the Rebuild India Fund work with six target communities – Scheduled Tribes (68%) including Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTG), Scheduled Castes (61%), Religious Minorities (27%), LGBTQIA++ (5%), Nomadic and Denotified Tribes (9%), Persons with Disabilities (13%), Other Backward Castes (11%) and Backward Castes (5%).

Dasra

Dasra, which means ‘enlightened giving’ in Sanskrit, has worked to catalyze social change since 1999.
Dasra was founded on the premise that supporting non-profits in their growth will scale their impact on the vulnerable lives they serve. It focuses on strengthening nonprofits, supporting philanthropists to build strong and equal partnerships with organizations, educating them on effective principles of giving, and enabling the government to better serve communities.

The electric tipper is now roadworthy, adhering to all the Central Motor Vehicles Rules. The e-tipper was put through intensive tests under various conditions to make it ready for Indian roads, including manoeuvring the mountainous terrains at high altitudes and into the depths of the earth in mining and quarrying pits.

Olectra Greentech Limited chairman and managing director Mr. KV Pradeep, said: “We at Olectra are excited to be playing a lead role in the electric heavy vehicle segment in India. Mr Pradeep added that with the Olectra electric tipper, we are ringing in a significant change in the construction, infrastructure, mining and quarrying sectors. Prioritizing Mental Health in PCOS

Dr. Geeta Komar, Sr. Consultant – OBG at Kinder

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) isn’t a new concept anymore and is largely associated with several health problems related to menstruation in women. A complex and chronic lifelong problem caused due to hormonal imbalances results in different physical health problems as well as mental health. Women with PCOS are usually diagnosed to be insulin-resistant, have inflammation throughout the body with high levels, are obese and lead a stressful life.

In fact, women who are diagnosed with PCOS are three times more likely to suffer from symptoms of severe anxieties and depression than the others. And the link between both can be due to various physical, emotional, and social reasons.

PCOS and Mental Health: Establishing the link

Although the reasons behind why women with PCOS are more likely to be at an increased risk of depression and anxiety are unclear, it is true that their symptoms are often overlooked and stay untreated.
Emotional health for women with PCOS can be particularly influenced by factors such as continuous physical and psychological changes that they go through, declining self-esteem, altering body-image, lifestyle and inability to cope up with stress. Upon diagnosis, it can unleash an ocean of emotions that may not be similar for everyone but can have an astounding effect. While some may experience frustration and anger, or shock and disbelief, for many it can be simply fear of facing uncalled for challenges with health.

PCOS causes an elevation in the level of androgens and DHEAS (testosterone hormones) that may be associated with depression and anxiety. Several research studies have also suggested that low levels of serotonin (a chemical in the nervous system associated with igniting positive feelings) are found in people with PCOS which can lead to feeling depressed and anxious more often.

Taking care of Mental Health with PCOS

The key to managing PCOS is to be aware of things that may trigger mood swings and managing lifestyle. PCOS is a complex disorder and if left untreated for long, it can affect one’s overall wellbeing. To improve emotional wellbeing, it is necessary to understand and educate oneself about PCOS, its treatment and avenues of getting the right support.

The good part of treatment for PCOS is that it can also treat the many other specific underlying causes. For instance, women who are diagnosed to be insulin-resistant may be advised to consume low-carb and low sugar diet. This will also help in keeping obesity at bay and maintain healthy weight, thus making a significant lifestyle change. Birth control pills may be prescribed to cure hormonal imbalances and regularize menstrual cycle.

Feeling depressed, anxious, or experiencing mood swings often are common among people with PCOS but can be tackled better with the following tips:

Change your lifestyle habits for better. Focus on improving your lifestyle in general instead of making short-term changes like following a particular diet, learning a sport, and meditating for a few days. Exercise regularly for at least 30 minutes daily, meditate to help yourself calm down, manage stress, and stay focused on your goals. Eat a balanced diet that includes fiber, protein, and carbohydrates.

While there are no concrete studies that prove taking anti-depressants also help treat PCOD as they might for people without PCOD, medications like metformin that help the body use insulin, Omega-3 fatty acids, Vitamin D can help in decreasing the symptoms of anxiety and depression.

Practicing mindfulness exercises like yoga, guided meditation, breathing exercises, relaxation techniques can help in improving the symptoms of anxiety as well as quality of life.

Living with PCOS can be stressful. It can take a toll on both physical and emotional well-being. Factors such as changing body image and size, excessive facial and body hair, facial acne, lack of physical fitness and motivation can be difficult to cope up with. Therefore, it is crucial to take charge of emotional health and well-being right from teenage years and adopt a healthier lifestyle to maintain healthy body weight, eat healthy and exercise regularly. Having open conversations with parents, teachers or counselors can help too.

How can therapy help?

Therapies or counseling can work wonders and show effective results in treating depression if diagnosed with PCOS. Therapies such as Talk Therapy (to talk and counsel), cognitive behavioral therapy (to identify patterns that indicate negative thinking and teaches how to cope with the situation) and sharing issues with people from support groups and looking for solutions together can be beneficial.

Remember, there is no doubt that PCOS and depression are often interrelated but with timely treatment, the symptoms can be reduced significantly.

PCOS can make you feel depressed and anxious at least 3 times more in comparison to when do not have PCOS, although the reasons stay unclear

  • To get relief and improve the symptoms, seek therapeutic help and medications to treat both PCOS and depression.
  • Taking the right medication will help in getting the menstrual cycle back on track and improve lifestyle.
  • If necessary, consult a mental health expert to treat depression and anxiety or join some support groups that can offer the required help.

Shopsy Aaj Kiya Kya_Creative

Bengaluru 2nd March 2023 Shopsy by Flipkart, Bharat’s fastest growing hyper-value e-commerce platform, today launched its new campaign with Sara Ali Khan as its brand ambassador. The campaign brings to light the platform’s affordable pricing and the expansive product range curated especially for customers seeking value. The TVC is built on the insight that in Indian families, parents get annoyed when their children spend a lot of money on shopping. This campaign breaks the myth by showing how online shopping on Shopsy is very affordable and can actually give you better value across multiple categories such as Kurtis, Sarees, Watches and Home Products. By casting Sara Ali Khan as the protagonist, the campaign aims to bolster Shopsy’s positioning as a value-driven shopping destination for the consumers of Bharat.

Created and conceptualized by Leo Burnett Orchard, the campaign features an ad film that showcases the interactions related to online shopping that family members engage in, something that most Indians relate to.

Commenting on the campaign, Adarsh Menon, Senior Vice President & Head – New Businesses, Flipkart, said, “At Shopsy, it is our constant endeavor to offer a shopping experience that blends affordable pricing, wide selection and pan-India availability with the latest trends and evolving needs of the consumer. Leveraging this deep understanding of our customers’ needs, ‘Aaj Shopsy Kiya Kya’ campaign is a recreation of a real-life scenario where the families of Shopsy’s customers are astounded to learn about the kind of vast selection in multiple product categories and low prices of the products available on the platform.”

The ‘Aaj Shopsy Kiya Kya?’ campaign hits all the right notes by incorporating everyday conversations that resonate with Indian families. After watching this TVC, I am sure that the viewers will be excited to explore the wide range of products that the Shopsy app offers.”

The film begins with a typical scenario at breakfast time in a middle-class home where Sara’s father is seated by the dining table accompanied by her mother, both having stern, worried expressions on their faces. Her brother is getting ready for school just as Sara walks in onto the scene. An air of tension lurks in as her father furiously questions her about yet another kurti delivery and where it came from to which she promptly responds saying, “It costs just Rs.25.” Her mother with three kurtis in her hand – Lucknowi, Anarkali and Jaipuri chimes in and sarcastically asks if each of these really cost that low. Sara assertively reassures them that these were all inexpensive. Her little brother encourages the father to also enquire about the watch that had arrived. Her father asks her where it came from. Sara nonchalantly responds – “Shopsy”. The brother, seeming doubtful of the reply, says it was sent by her boyfriend. After which, Sara reassures the family that it was indeed Shopsy where she bought the products from. She takes out her phone and scrolls through the app to show how everything like clothing, footwear, utensils and home decor are available for attractive prices on the app.

Shopsy was launched by Flipkart in July 2021 with the aim to offer an expansive range of engaging products at affordable prices while being a value-based and reliable platform. In this light, Shopsy has strived to deliver on its commitment to building a community that truly levels the playing field of commerce in the country. Shopsy’s vision is to make digital commerce accessible and affordable across India through a zero-commission marketplace. Today, Shopsy has over 11 lakh sellers (including Flipkart) on the platform who provide 150 million products spanning over 800 categories for customers across India.
