Dupixent® (dupilumab) is now approved in India for the treatment of adults with moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis

Mumbai, 12th July 2023. Sanofi Healthcare India Pvt. Ltd. today announced that it has received marketing authorization for Dupixent® (dupilumab), the first biologic medicine for the treatment of moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis in adults whose disease is not adequately controlled with topical prescription therapies or when those therapies are not advisable. Dupixent® can be used along with or without topical therapy.

Globally, Dupixent® has transformed the treatment landscape for patients around the world by targeting the type 2 inflammation that underlies the disease, rather than broadly suppressing the immune system.

Anil Raina
General Manager, Sanofi Specialty Care (India)
“Dupixent® receiving marketing authorization in India is a significant milestone, as we now have the opportunity to offer our first-in-class and best-in-class therapy to treat people living with atopic dermatitis, in India. Approved in the U.S., the European Union, Japan and more than 60 countries for one or more indications other than atopic dermatitis, Dupixent® is the first and only biologic medicine in India that has shown significantly improved disease signs, symptoms, and quality of life measures, for this particularly difficult-to-treat skin condition.”

Atopic dermatitis, a form of eczema, is a chronic type 2 inflammatory disease with symptoms often appearing as a rash on the skin. Moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis is characterized by rashes often covering much of the body, and can include intense, persistent itching and skin dryness, cracking, redness, crusting, and oozing.

Dr. Shalini Menon
Country Medical Lead, Sanofi (India)
“The prevalence of atopic dermatitisin adults in India ranges from 2 % to 8 %* and there has been a trend*of increasing prevalence observed in India. Many often struggle to control their disease with the treatment options currently available. Itching is one of the most burdensome symptoms for patients and can be debilitating. People living with moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis can experience unbearable symptoms and have significantly impaired quality of life, including disrupted sleep, and increased anxiety and depression symptoms. The chronicity and often visible lesions lead to considerable social stigma.Through studies Dupixent® has shown that it helps clear the skin, manage the persistent debilitating itch, and improve overall quality of life along with proven long-term safety.”

With more than 600,000 patients being treated with Dupixent® globally, Dupixent® will soon be available as an option for controlling moderate to severe atopic dermatitisfor adults in India. Dupilumab is being jointly developed by Sanofi and Regeneron under a global collaboration agreement.

Aadyam Theatre’s latest play of the season: ‘BETRAYAL’ is a story that is a deep emotional triangle about a loved one’s true intentions and loyalties

 'BETRAYAL'
Mumbai, 12th July 2023:  Aadyam Theatre, an Aditya Birla Group initiative, presents its latest play of the season – ‘Betrayal,’ directed by Rachel D’Souza and produced by 3 Parts Company, the theatrical production is known to captivate its audiences with a beautifully captured love triangle that presents a searingly tender picture of fragile memories, wounded hearts and how easily our grasps over reality can unravel.

Betrayal revolves around two love stories, with forbidden sparks, infidelity, deception and a barrage of complex human emotions. It intricately explores two distinct love stories – that unfold between three characters through a series of meetings and conversations. Starting in 1977, the play unfolds in reverse chronology, with lovers Jerry and Emma meeting after a gap of two years. From here, it spirals backwards all the way to 1968 to the first transgression when Jerry, Robert’s closest friend, declares his undying love for Emma, Robert’s wife. Along the way, the audience is drawn into various events in time, when things both said and unsaid create a compelling theatrical experience.

The backward structure of the story, ‘stops the audience from concentrating on cause and effect and making the associated moral judgements that they might ordinarily induce. Each character elicits disdain and admiration in different measures at different stages, supporting the idea that there are many realities and changing viewpoints in life, and that no one sets out with a clear motivation for their actions. The characters sometimes seem to drift into decisions and choices, deceiving themselves and others into further acts of betrayal.

The Director of the play, Rachel D’Souza was quoted as saying,” Almost as an after effect of the lockdown, I developed an interest in intimate stories of relationships, familial bonds, friendships and the mechanisms of attachment and loyalty in them. ‘Betrayal’ speaks to all these elements in a haunting and riveting theatrical structure. It plays out in reverse, like a downward spiral in time. We begin the play at the end of the story and move back towards how it all began! How an affair began, how a marriage crumbled, how families reorganized themselves and how the characters slowly came to confront their choices and actions. I daresay it has a murder mystery quality blended into a very deeply domestic, feelings-based narrative. They fixate on when and how something happened, but hardly ever why something happened. Vivek Gomber and Sukant Goel who play Robert (husband) and Jerry (friends/lover) respectively, play with fraught emotions, men who don’t speak their minds but take funny jabs at each other in any situation. Abir Abrar plays Emma (Robert’s wife and Jerry’s lover), completing a friendly but unsettling triangle. The cast must play an arc of being duplicitous and genuine, creating a difficult tightrope to watch. The best part is, they must showcase the empathy that is linked to the emotions behind the betrayal written into every scene. Our version is also accompanied by live music from Nush Lewis, who’s moody vocal style brings a whole new dimension to the story.”

Rachel D’Souza, the director of “Betrayal,” brings a wealth of experience and artistic vision to the production. Nush Lewis’s mastery of the Harp allows her to evoke a wide range of emotions, from subtle and delicate melodies to powerful and intense compositions. Her live musical interludes between scenes provide seamless transitions, allowing the audience to immerse themselves deeper into the narrative.

Nadir Khan, the artistic director of Aadyam was quoted speaking about the highly anticipated production, “Betrayal brings this season of Aadyam to a close. It is a play that is quite widely regarded as one of his most iconic works. The play is a piercing examination of the dynamics of betrayal within relationships – platonic and romantic. The story is told in reverse chronology, which is a fascinating experience for audience members, as we are taken through the life-span of a love triangle between a married couple and the husband’s best friend. Directed by Rachel Dsouza and starring Abir Abrar, Sukant Goel and Vivek Gomber, this is a production that I am certainly looking forward to.”

The play features a stellar cast of proficient actors, including Abir Abrar, Sukant Goel and Vivek Gombar who do complete justice to the original adaptation, with each character’s journey intricately interwoven, leading to a powerful and cohesive presentation.

TAF 2023: NITI Aayog is doing a lot of pilot programs on use of AI and use of Blockchain in the health sector

TAF 2023

New Delhi;12th July 2023Leading India’s fight against counterfeiting for many decades,The Authentication Solution Providers’ Association (ASPA)has taken on the ambitious challenge of targeting Zero Counterfeiting in India. ASPA in association with Messe Frankfurt India is holding the Fifth edition of the flagship‘Traceability and Authentication Forum’ to encourage and nurture traceability, authentication and anti-counterfeiting ecosystem in the country.

The association has rolled out a five-year strategy from 2022-2027, to become a global Industry voice in the authentication and traceability ecosystem. And the ‘Traceability and Authentication Forum’ is an important part of the strategic movement.

In spite of so many drastic changes in the market and technological advancements, the underbelly of counterfeiting and illicit trade is constantly causing huge losses to not just the Indian economy but the world. A recent consumer perception study done by ASPA and CRISIL revealed that counterfeiting constitutes almost 25-30% of the market (State of Counterfeiting in India 2022). It is most prevalent in key sectors such as Pharmaceutical, Agri-products, Apparel, Automotive, FMCG, and Consumer Durables among others. This itself shows how this demands the immediate attention of all stakeholders and a national strategy to curtail the loss to the economy due to these illicit activities.

Dr. Urvashi Prasad, Senior Director, NITI AAYOG graced the occasion as the Guest of Honor and Shri Susanta Singh, JS, Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers (GoI) was the Chief Guest.

Representatives from private sector companies like Marico Ltd., DS Group, Goldiee Group, Mother Dairy, Pfizer, Ashok Leyland, Mankind, Ford India, Polycab India, Jockey India, Dhanuka Agritech, FMC India, Kapiva, Godfrey Philips, Cyrstal Crop Protection shared insights during the forum.

Sharing his thoughts Mr. Nakul Pasricha, President, Authentication Solution Providers’ Association (ASPA), said, “On the occasion of the momentous 75th Independence Year – ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’, ASPA commits itself to the vision of Zero Counterfeiting. Counterfeiting and Illicit trade are one of the biggest challenges in the path of the country’s economic wellbeing and is eroding precious resources. It is also undermining Consumer’s Right. While on one side the country is making great progress sue to technology innovation and advancements, on the other hand criminals are using technology to create new ways of duping consumers into buying inferior, ineffective and even harmful products in copycat packaging. Criminals have become so smart in using technology and taking advantage of low awareness levels that nearly 27% of the consumers were unaware that the product was counterfeit at the time of purchase.”

He added, “The existence of counterfeit products according to consumer perception is pegged at 25-30 percent. But what is more astonishing is that around 89% of consumers acknowledge the presence of fake products in the market still 31% willingly purchase counterfeit products. This is how much the consumers undervalue their rights. Apparel (31%), FMCG (28%), and Automotives (25%) are the top segments where consumers came across a counterfeit product, followed by Pharmaceuticals (20%), Consumer Durables (17%), and Agrochemicals (16%). Even after discovering that the product is fake, consumers take close to negligible action about reporting it.”

Mr. Pasricha further added, ““Though some measures are being taken by the government especially in the pharmaceutical space and responsible brands are investing into product protection solutions, still to bring about an effective change the country needs to have a national strategy to curtail circulation of counterfeits and illegal products. Without nurturing and encouraging the traceability, authentication and anti-counterfeiting ecosystem in the country and focusing on creating widespread awareness in consumers this fight against fakes will not be effective. The Indian Traceability and Authentication industry has effective solutions available but we require a positive push for widespread adoption.”

Millennial Urban Comfort – ‘Real’ Value in a Changing World

Akash Pharande, Managing Director - Pharande Spaces– By Akash Pharande, Managing Director – Pharande Spaces

India has been witnessing a consistent rise in urbanization over the years. A survey by the United Nations projects that by 2030, over 40.76% of India’s population will live in urban regions. World Bank statistics from 2017 add weight to this estimate – in that year, about 34% of the country’s population already lived in cities.

India’s urbanization trend will continue, and by 2050, India will be among the leaders in global urbanization, along with China, Indonesia, Nigeria, and the United States. And India’s urban ethos is driven by young people – dual-income nuclear families and up-and-coming single professionals.

Data from Statistica, which shows the age distribution of India between 2011 and 2021, lean towards 67.51% in the 15-64 age group. In 2022, the median age of an Indian was 28.7 years, as opposed to 38.4 in China and 48.6 in Japan.

Simultaneously, the nuclear family is quickly taking over as the majority of Indian families today have broken away from their once-joint origins and are now defined by five or fewer individuals.

Nuclear Family – The Urban Phenomenon

Today’s millennials aspire to live lifestyles based on modern options. They want to be financially independent, select their life partners without being influenced by the older generation, raise their own kids in modern, urban settings, and send them to reputable schools and colleges.

The success of a modern nuclear family depends on maintaining a laser-like focus on earning power, job advancement, and savvy investments. As a reward for this focus, modern young Indians expect to live in security and comfort and look for homes that can deliver this comfort.

The Millennial Comfort Revamp

While the pursuit of comfort hasn’t changed over the generations, its definition certainly has. For India’s young urbanites today, a comfortable home is defined by adequate size, the right location, smart home features, and top-grade amenities and facilities.

Where their parents may have been happy to live in smaller homes near the city’s traditional office hubs, stretching their budgets to buy such homes, subjecting the family to chaotic, cramped inner-city living, a massive number of Indian millennials grew up in such limited environments and are determined to live better lives.

This orientation has, in recent years, caused developers to shift their focus from compact housing projects near the core areas to spacious townships and gated communities in the suburbs. These projects have everything that the previously popular ones lacked – greenery, sustainability features, technology-driven comfort and convenience, high-level security, and, most of all, enough space for the family to grow.

The always-crucial factor of location has also undergone a sea change. The inner city has fallen out of vogue. The preference of young Indian urbanites has gone from ‘central’ to ‘well-connected’. The metro system and ring roads have caused our cities to expand hugely in scope, making less expensive outlying areas even more desirable than the congested city centers.

Various reports by leading real estate consultants highlight the increased demand for bigger homes made affordable by their non-central locations and reliable by their developers’ reputation for quality.

Townships – New Urban Comfort Standard

With ultra-modern townships now being developed in non-central locations, high-grade comfortable living standards have become a very approachable goal. The previous mold has been broken, and an entirely new standard of urban comfort has been set. These projects have everything it takes to live spaciously.

Young Indians are buying into projects that support their desire for space, convenience, and safety both inside their homes and within the projects. Unlike in previous years, there is now a huge demand for on-site amenities that improve the quality of life. It’s no longer just about four walls but an integrated lifestyle.

The best-selling townships today feature spacious and well-designed living spaces, incorporating modern architectural and interior design principles. They prioritize functionality, aesthetics, and the efficient utilization of space, enhancing residents’ overall quality of life.

They also have advanced security systems, such as CCTV cameras, access control mechanisms, and security personnel, which create a safer living environment. Unlike the housing projects of yesteryears, these townships have highly efficient facilities management systems that tackle waste management, maintenance, repairs, and utility upkeep.

They have well-designed community spaces and recreational facilities such as parks, playgrounds, swimming pools, gyms, and community centers. These promote an active and healthy lifestyle, encourage social interaction among residents, and provide spaces for relaxation and leisure activities.

Tech-savvy millennials also expect technology that enhances their living experience. Smart home systems, such as automated lighting, temperature control, visitor monitoring, and appliance control, have increasingly become must-haves in the new urban comfort sphere.

Comfort with a Conscience

Finally, and perhaps most importantly, the Indian millennial’s concept of urban comfort also includes having an easier conscience. They expect sustainability features that address the mounting environmental concerns that are constantly in the news now.

Sustainable and energy-efficient features such as solar panels, energy-efficient appliances, rainwater harvesting systems, and green spaces reduce the project’s carbon footprint, lower utility bills, and result in a more environmentally friendly community.

Indeed, the concept of urban comfort has come a long way over the years. And indeed, it is a constantly evolving theme that will see rapid and regular changes in the years to come. Indian homebuyers expect a lot more from their homes than their parents did – and developers have little choice but to deliver ‘real’ value in a changing world.
