Half a Decade of Transformative Impact at Sachin Tendulkar Foundation

Sachin,Anjali,Sara

Chandigarh, January 24, 2025 – Marking half a decade of serving the less-privileged and the needy in ways that enable them to believe and take the lead, the Sachin Tendulkar Foundation (STF) held a close-knit celebration in Mumbai on January 22nd, 2025 at The Bombay Club. Tributes and acknowledgments from friends, family, well-wishers, and non-profit partners, paved the event as STF reaffirmed its commitment to ensure better living with primary focus areas of health, education, and sports for children.

The theme of the evening, “Shine Brighter Together” shed light on the Foundation’s core idea of impacting lives, especially children through sports, health, and education.

For Sara Tendulkar, who recently donned the mantle of Director at the Foundation, the evening was her first official engagement. Stepping on the path shown by her parents at such a young age, Sara brings in a fresh perspective of connecting with the youth and helping them take flight with their aspirations.

Reflecting on her family’s commitment to bettering lives and the transformative potential of the Foundation’s initiatives, Sara said, “Growing up, I was always inspired by my family, who shaped my understanding of the power of giving. I had the opportunity to witness the Foundation’s work and see the spark of hope that lights up in the lives of not just the children but entire families. Over the last five years, the Sachin Tendulkar Foundation has touched over a hundred thousand young lives, and that’s a hundred thousand reasons to keep going. I am grateful to everyone who believed in us and stood by our side to make this journey possible.

“As Director, I cannot wait to build on what my parents started and make sure that every little dream gets noticed and nurtured. I look forward to this journey as we light up a world of possibilities for children who are the future.”

A short film introduced the guests to the Foundation’s work. The audience were enlightened on the continued dedication of the Tendulkars and STF towards a shared dream of empowering the young dreamers, through strategic partnerships. The work done by the 15+ NGO partners who STF collaborates with was acknowledged and applauded.

Coldplay’s Chris Martin was in attendance and engaged in a Tête-à-tête, on stage with Sachin Tendulkar. Pressing on the Foundation’s journey, Sachin Tendulkar shared, “When I walked back to the pavilion one last time, I had an inkling in my mind that my innings was far from over. Anjali and I had this vision to do something to ease living for the less privileged and give young dreamers some assistance to believe in themselves and take flight. We realized that the germination of the idea was easier than implementing it. Eventually, STF came into being and now we’ve traversed half a decade of doing our bit. The journey is in full swing and with Sara leading the way now, I am confident that STF will continue to transform million dreams into reality and give wings to the doers.”

Starting with a humble vision of connecting with people and assisting them in realizing their full potential, STF is at the threshold to expand its sports-for-development initiatives multi-fold, so that millions more children and youth across the corners get benefitted. The futuristic vision looks at creating more advanced infrastructure in rural areas, strengthening healthcare access for children through collaborations with local hospitals and authorities, and introducing innovative education programs aimed at bridging opportunity gaps and skill development. By merging the core vision with a new zeal, STF aims to make the next decade a decade of fulfilling ‘billions of dreams.’

Ozempic Truly A ‘Miracle Drug’ For Weight Loss – Need Coverage

Dr. Mahesh D M,

Dr Mahesh D M, Consultant Endocrinologist, Aster CMI Hospital

Ozempic is currently one of the most popular drugs on the market, with many Hollywood, as well as Bollywood celebs, allegedly using it to lose weight. Recently on Christmas, Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to post his “Ozempic Santa” look. However, in a follow-up post, Musk clarified that he’s taking Mounjaro, which is similar to Ozempic.
Regardless of which brand of semaglutide the celebs are taking, it is important to address the risks and safety concerns that people have around the so-called ‘miracle’ weight loss drug. One must understand that shortcuts to a healthy lifestyle are never a long-term solution, but an addition to the already existing health problems.

What Is Ozempic?
Ozempic, also known as semaglutide, is an anti-diabetic medication that was launched by Novo Nordisk, a Danish pharmaceutical company, back in 2017. While its primary use is to help improve blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes, it has gained a lot of popularity for its weight loss effects. The medication is an injectable that is administered once every week under the skin of the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm, according to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Dr Mahesh D M, Consultant Endocrinologist, Aster CMI Hospital, Bengaluru, said, “Ozempic functions as a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist, which not only helps lower blood sugar levels but also plays a significant role in weight management, making it a dual-purpose solution for those struggling with diabetes and obesity.”
Ozempic works by acting like natural hormones (GLP-1) in your body. It helps release more insulin after you eat, reduce your appetite, and slow down how quickly food leaves your stomach. These combined effects help control blood sugar and lead to weight loss, the doctor simplified.

Is Ozempic Truly A ‘Miracle Drug’ For Weight Loss?

“Many individuals may find that alternative methods, such as lifestyle changes, dietary adjustments, and other medications, can provide safer and more sustainable results without the potential side effects associated with Ozempic. By examining all available options, individuals can make informed decisions that align with their health goals and ensure a more holistic approach to weight management,” he said.

Risks, Side Effects, And Safety Concerns

Ozempic is primarily prescribed for managing type 2 diabetes; however, its off-label use among non-diabetic individuals raises important safety concerns, according to Dr Mahesh.
As per the FDA, Ozempic may cause serious side effects, including low blood sugar, inflammation of the pancreas, complications of diabetes-related retina disease (diabetic retinopathy), and allergic reactions.

The most common side effects in clinical trials included nausea, vomiting, Diarrhoea, abdominal pain, and constipation.
More serious risks include pancreatitis, thyroid tumors, and allergic reactions.

It’s essential to note that Ozempic is not approved for everyone, particularly those with:

  •  Type 1 diabetes
  •  Pancreatitis or pancreatic cancer
  •  Thyroid cancer or tumors
  •  Severe gastrointestinal disease
  •  Pregnancy or breastfeeding

Ozempic In India
Ozempic is not officially available in India and is not approved for use in India. While the demand for Ozempic is high, the supply is limited.

“As of now, Ozempic, which is primarily approved for the management of type 2 diabetes, has not received specific regulatory approval for weight loss in India,” said Dr Mahesh, adding, however, that the growing awareness of its potential benefits for weight management has led to discussions among healthcare professionals and patients alike.
“While it may be accessible through certain channels, individuals seeking Ozempic for weight loss should consult with a healthcare provider to understand the implications, potential off-label use, and the best course of action tailored to their health needs,” the doctor advised.

The summit was inaugurated by Mr Ashok Soota, Executive Chairman of Happiest Minds, amidst over 400 participants.

The summit introduced delegates to panel discussions and talks on vital topics shaping the future of healthcare, including those on artificial intelligence, robotics, and telemedicine. The informative sessions provided deep insights into how the industry is evolving with these innovations and the opportunities to look forward to, besides giving individuals the chance to network with industry leaders and technology innovators. The summit generated plenty of important conversations in a collaborative environment, reflecting Happiest Health’s commitment to adding value to the healthcare space in India.

happiest health

Mr. Ashok Soota, Executive Chairman, Happiest Minds in his keynote address on opportunities in healthcare through innovation and technology, spoke extensively on various healthcare modules, touching upon innovation, data in healthcare, industry disruptions, and more. On what’s driving innovation, he said, “Today, we are witnessing the convergence of three forces. These forces of convergence are spatial omics technologies becoming increasingly high throughput and high resolution, large-scale data sets generated by patient biopsies and such, and AI models becoming even more powerful and sophisticated. These three convergence forces will lead to more powerful interventions.”

The summit’s first panel discussion, titled ‘AI & Tech In Healthcare: Is Adoption Happening Fast?’, was moderated by Dr Sreenivasan Narayana, President and CEO of Healthcare Services, Happiest health, was led by Mr Kalyan Sivasailam, founder and CEO of 5C Network, Dr Manjiri Bakre, founder and CEO of OncoStem Diagnostics, and Mr Niranjan Subbarao, co-founder and CEO of Cyclops Medtech. The discussion covered how the rapid adoption of technology like machine learning and data analytics is leading to improved diagnostics, personalised treatment plans, and increased operational efficiency, transforming patient care and making it more precise.

Dr Harshavardhan Rao B, consultant – Department of Medical Gastroenterology, Ramaiah Memorial Hospital, held a session on ‘AI and its Applications in Healthcare & in Medical Gastroenterology in Your Practice’. Speaking on challenges from a physician’s perspective, he said: “One of the things that we consider when we talk about AI is whether it will affect our relationship with patients. Most patient-reported outcome measures are based on an excellent relationship with the patient. There is a placebo effect with most medications. And if the patient does not trust the doctor and the medicine, the clinical outcomes will be sub-optimal. That doesn’t diminish the fact that medications work. It’s just that we have to recognise the effect the placebo effect has – with AI and with reduced interaction, will that affect patient care?”

A panel discussion on the ‘Hospitals of Tomorrow’ involved Mr. Hanuman Jayaram, CTO, CTSI South Asia, an affiliate of Siemens Healthineers, Mr Kumar KV, group CIO of Narayana Health, and Mr Srinivas Iyengar, VP, IG head – Healthcare & Life Sciences, Happiest Minds. Mr Kumar KV shared his thoughts on the hurdles hospitals can expect in the future: “The key backbone, especially in the next five–10 years, is going to be from a technology standpoint. This basically necessitates that healthcare providers have all the tools required to provide efficient care, save lives, generate efficiency, and improve outcomes. Apart from having a suitable workforce and embracing digital transformation to transform the business model, the biggest challenge is to get the technology equation right.”

Mr. Sridhar Mantha, CEO of Generative AI Business, Happiest Minds, delivered the valedictory address on future developments in healthcare technology. He discussed the problem with healthcare data for training AI models: “Based on the AI models looking at the data right now, it’s quite easy for us to train the models. But it’s not that simple, as not all data is valuable. There’s enough garbage in the data. So, provided we have sufficient quality data to train the model on, we can reach at least 90% of the quality.”

Mr Ashish Pratap Singh, chief marketing officer of Happiest Health, said, “’The Technology & Innovation in Healthcare Summit’ is meant to catalyse dialogue between healthcare and technology experts, combining IT expertise with healthcare innovation. We intend to showcase the latest advancements and foster actionable insights and collaborations to revolutionise patient care and transform the healthcare landscape.”

Budget expectation || Triveni Engineering and Industries Ltd

Tarun Sawhney,Mr. Tarun Sawhney, Vice Chairman and Managing Director, TEIL.

“The sugar industry is optimistic that Budget 2025 will address key challenges and pave the way for sustainable growth. A critical area of focus is the long-overdue revision of the Minimum Selling Price (MSP) for sugar, which has remained stagnant at Rs 31 per kg since 2019. Rising production costs and the increasing Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) for sugarcane necessitate a revision to Rs 39.14 per kg. Such a move will not only stabilize the financial health of sugar mills but also ensure fair and consistent returns for farmers, creating a balanced and resilient ecosystem.

Equally important is advancing India’s ethanol blending goals, as the country approaches the E20 target by 2025. Achieving this milestone requires a robust roadmap, including continued policy support, technological innovation, and infrastructure expansion. Meeting the 20% blending target by 2025 will require approximately 1,016 crore liters of ethanol, rising to 1,350 crore liters when accounting for other uses. To meet this demand, ethanol production capacity must reach 1,700 crore liters by 2025. Targeted subsidies of INR 35,000 crore to create an additional 770 crore liters of production capacity will play a pivotal role. A key expectation from the government is the approval of the anticipated ethanol pricing bill, proposing an INR 4-5 per liter price hike for the Ethanol Supply Year 2024-25. This increase is essential to incentivize ethanol producers and distilleries to enhance production in alignment with India’s blending targets. Linking ethanol pricing to the FRP of sugarcane through a formula-based mechanism could further ensure stability for all stakeholders in the value chain.

Furthermore, to establish the roadmap beyond E20 targets, the government should focus on aligning blending targets with domestic feedstock availability and securing a steady supply chain, utilizing surplus FCI rice until maize production meets blending requirements. Additionally, it should prioritize the development of flex-fuel vehicles and expand dispensing infrastructure to support various ethanol-blended fuel options effectively.

Investments in research and development are also crucial in ensuring India remains a global leader in biofuel innovation. Breakthroughs in 2G ethanol, Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF), and ethanol-to-hydrogen conversion technologies will keep India at the cutting edge of the biofuel sector. In parallel, India’s commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2070 underscores the need for significant investment in renewable energy.”
