Canon’s New RF 20mm F1.4L VCM Brings Ultra-Wide and Bright Performance

NEW DELHI, 29 March 2025 – Canon today announced the RF 20mm F1.4L VCM, the fourth and widest lens in its series of still/video hybrid prime lenses featuring the new VCM (Voice Coil Motor) AF system. Delivering dramatic ultra-wide-angle perspective, appealing large f/1.4 maximum aperture, outstanding image quality, fast and precise AF drive in a compact body with user-friendly features, the lens is a must-have for creating stunning, expansive compositions that draw viewers into the scene.

canon

Vivid Expression Within a Compact Body
At around 99.3mm long and weighing approximately 519g, the professional-grade RF 20mm F1.4L VCM defies convention by packing an ultra-wide-angle 20mm focal length and large f/1.4 maximum aperture into a compact, lightweight and durable professional-grade body. Large aperture ultra-wide-angle lenses have a reputation for being hefty, but like the other f/1.4L VCM lenses, the RF 20mm F1.4L VCM is portable and easy to handle.

Users can capitalise on the lens’ unique perspective and outstanding low light flexibility when capturing stills of architecture in their full grandeur, or detail-rich shots in dramatic low lighting. Besides its 67mm front filter thread, the RF 20mm F1.4L VCM has a rear filter holder that positions sheet-type filters close to the image sensor where there is less likelihood of distortion happening.

Designed for Video Shooting
The lens is engineered for video shooting performance down to its core with focus breathing reduction built into its optical design. Compositions will remain stable with extremely little fluctuation during focus transitions even with a camera body that has no built-in electronic focus breathing correction. The high-thrust VCM, which drives the large focus lens groups and is controlled by a high-performance microprocessor, ensures that subject tracking and focal transitions are carried out smoothly in near silence during video shooting. It also locks focus swiftly and precisely when shooting stills.

The RF 20mm F1.4L VCM’s size, weight, 67mm filter size, flat and simple exterior controls are designed to be consistent with Canon’s hybrid f/1.4L VCM prime lenses. This minimises the need for users to rebalance gimbals and other gear when swapping the lens with others in the same series. Similar to Canon’s hybrid and cinema lenses, users can make aperture adjustments seamlessly by turning the clickless iris ring during filming. The rotation direction is identical to the Cinema EOS System lenses, so users of both systems can switch between them effortlessly.

Beautiful and Clear Images at the Edges
The RF 20mm F1.4L VCM is the first VCM-series lens to feature BR (Blue Spectrum Refractive) optics, which thoroughly suppresses the chromatic aberration that might occur with ultra-wide-angle lenses. This ensures clarity and beautiful out-of-camera colours from the centre to the edges. Two optimally placed GMo (glass-moulded) aspherical lenses correct various distortions, including the sagittal coma flare. By doing so, point light sources like stars are rendered faithfully, making the lens ideal for astrophotography.

Like Canon’s other professional wide-angle lenses, the RF 20mm F1.4L VCM features ASC and SWC coatings that reduce flare and ghosting. As such, images captured remain clean and clear even when shooting at the sun or other light sources RF 20mm F1.4L VCM’s impeccable image quality is testament to Canon’s pursuit of optical excellence, and how it has been designed to be future proofed for high-resolution imaging demands like 8K resolution.

Discover the Perfect Beat with 7UP and Spotify’s ‘7UP SpiceIt Playlist’

Hyderabad, 29th March 2025: In a groundbreaking move, 7UP® is redefining the spicy food experience with the launch of its ‘7UP® SpiceIt Playlist’ in collaboration with Spotify. This first-of-its-kind activation is not just about taste —it’s a sensorial fusion of science, spice, music, and refreshment. Conceptualized and executed by Leo India, and backed by research, it pushes the boundaries of how consumers will experience and feel the spice on an entirely new level. Building on the success of its ‘Eat Spicy Food – Drink 7UP® – Repeat’ campaign, 7UP® is now amplifying the experience by unlocking the science of sound to intensify flavour, making every fiery bite of food even more thrilling.

To amplify the initiative, 7UP® has unveiled a new digital campaign film featuring the music sensation Anirudh Ravichander. Set in a music studio, the film captures Anirudh reaching for a bottle of hot sauce, only to find it empty. Disappointed, he remarks, “I need more spice.” His friend, engrossed in his phone, shows him a video on how fast-paced, high-pitched sounds can make food taste spicier. Intrigued, Anirudh remixes the 7UP® Super-Duper Refresher track, adding high-pitched elements before taking a bite. As he turns up the volume, the spice level intensifies. He grabs an ice-cold 7UP®, takes a sip, and enjoys the refreshing satisfaction. The TVC concludes with a close-up of Anirudh holding a 7UP® can, looking straight into the camera – underscoring the ultimate refreshment.

The campaign is inspired by research by Charles Spence, a renowned Oxford University scientist, whose study reveals that specific frequencies in music can amplify the perception of spice, making food taste even spicier.

By harnessing this insight, 7UP® is creating an experience that stimulates multiple senses at once—where sound enhances flavour, and 7UP® delivers the ultimate balance with refreshment. The ‘7UP® SpiceIt Playlist’ is a specially designed collection of tracks that enhances the sensory thrill of eating spicy food. Whether indulging in a plate of Andhra-style chicken, Chettinad curry, or fiery street food, the playlist promises to intensify the experience, making 7UP® the perfect refreshment to cool down and balance the heat.

Talking about the campaign, Shailja Joshi, Category Lead, Cola and Flavours, PepsiCo India, said, “Spicy food is more than just a preference — it’s a way of life. At 7UP, we celebrate our love for spice, and through our association with Spotify, the ‘7UP SpiceIt Playlist,’ will enhance the way people enjoy their favourite fiery dishes. Both 7UP and Spotify are all about elevating experiences—whether it’s through refreshment or music—and this campaign brings the two together in an exciting way. This is yet another step in our commitment to make every spicy bite more enjoyable, with 7UP as the ultimate refreshment companion.”

“Music and food have always been a perfect duo, and the ‘7UP SpiceIt Playlist’ is a fresh take on this synergy, based on research that highlights the relevance of music in how we taste food. Both 7UP and Spotify are committed to creating immersive experiences, and this collaboration pushes creative boundaries, delivering a bold and fun consumer engagement”, said Sanketh Garimella, Director of Sales, Spotify India

Anirudh Ravichander also added, “Music has the power to amp up every experience, and it’s exciting to see how it can even enhance the perception of spice. Remixing the 7UP Super-Duper Refresher track to bring this insight to life was a thrilling experience. 7UP has always been a part of our food moments, and this campaign makes it even more special for spicy food lovers.”

“7UP goes best with spicy food, so, when we learned of Prof. Charles’ study of how certain musical frequencies can intensify the taste of spicy food, we saw an opportunity to bring alive a unique experience. We collaborated with Prof. Charles and ace musician Anirudh to curated ‘7UP SpiceIt Playlist’ – a lineup of high-energy tracks designed to take your spicy meal to the next level. We then took this to Spotify and created a first of its kind experience that mixes music, food and super-duper refresher, 7UP.”, said Vikram Pandey, Chief Creative Officer, Leo South Asia.
