Fed Holds Rates Amid ‘Stagflation Lite’; Indian Investors Eye Small-Cap US Stocks for Long-Term Gains

ByMr. Subho Moulik, CEO at Appreciate

“The Federal Reserve’s decision to hold rates steady while projecting a ‘stagflation lite’ scenario of 1.4% growth and 3% inflation reveals a central bank navigating unprecedented uncertainty. With seven FOMC members wanting no cuts versus eight expecting two, the internal divisions mirror broader economic confusion. Powell’s admission that tariff impacts remain unknown essentially puts monetary policy on hold pending Washington’s trade decisions.

This cautious stance maintains dollar strength but risks falling behind the curve if either growth collapses or inflation accelerates. The Fed’s projection of missing its 2% inflation target through 2027 signals a fundamental shift from the post-2008 disinflationary environment to a new era of persistent price pressures. For Indian investors looking at US stocks, the current Fed stance and market volatility present both risks and hidden opportunities.

With US equities experiencing corrections amid tariff shocks and policy uncertainty, quality American stocks — especially those with strong fundamentals — may now be available at more attractive valuations, offering a rare entry point for long-term investors. Small-cap US stocks, in particular, stand out as a hidden gem: historically, they tend to outperform large caps following the end of rate cycles, especially in soft-landing scenarios, and their domestic focus makes them less vulnerable to global trade disruptions and tariffs. Investors should also monitor currency fluctuations, as a stronger dollar can impact rupee returns, and consider gradual, diversified allocations to manage volatility. Additionally, the broadening of US equity market leadership beyond the Magnificent 7 and into sectors like AI enablers and small caps could reward active, research-driven strategies. For Indian investors, this is a moment to look beyond headline risks and seek out underappreciated segments of the US market poised for a rebound as policy clarity emerges.”

Carlsberg Group and Water.org Partner to Bring Safe Water to Communities Across the Ganges River Basin

19 June 2025, Gurugram – Carlsberg Group in India today announced a new partnership with Water.org to improve access to safe water and sanitation in communities across the Ganges River Basin, including the states of Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. The collaboration reinforces Carlsberg’s commitment to responsible water stewardship by investing in sustainable, measurable solutions that empower local communities.

Water.org helps tackle India’s water and sanitation crisis by making access affordable. Through its WaterCredit solution, launched in India in 2004, the organization partners with microfinance institutions, banks, and government programs to provide small, affordable loans for water and sanitation improvements to families in need. This approach has enabled more than 30 million people to get access to safe water or sanitation. Water.org continues to scale its impact by developing financial solutions at both household and community levels, supporting India’s goal of providing tap water for all.

Through this initiative, Carlsberg Group and Water.org will enable access to 247 million liters of water in the Ganges River Basin, helping people in areas that need safe water the most. The partnership aims to provide safe water or sanitation solutions to more than 112,000 people by March 2028. In addition to providing access to safer water, the partnership will engage communities in awareness efforts to drive long-term behavior change and local impact.

The partnership is an important step towards Carlsberg Group’s target of replenishing 100% of the water consumed at its breweries and beverage production sites in high water risk areas by 2030.

“At Carlsberg India, we understand that water is not just a resource — it’s a lifeline for communities,” said Nilesh Patel, Managing Director, Carlsberg India“Our partnership with Water.org reflects our commitment to sustainable water management and community well-being. By supporting access to safe water, we’re helping families build healthier lives, strengthen their resilience, and secure a better future. Investing in water is, ultimately, an investment in people, in sustainability, and in long-term progress.”

“This collaboration with Carlsberg helps scale the impact of our proven solution. One that’s empowered millions of people to finance their own safe water and sanitation solutions,” said Gary White, CEO and Co-founder, Water.org. “As part of an important network of partners, Carlsberg is helping accelerate that momentum in India, where access to safe water or sanitation can change everything for families in need: improving health, regaining time, and building bright futures.”

Water access drives measurable improvements in health, household resilience, and gender equity. This partnership will help create lasting impact across the Ganges River Basin, ensuring that local communities can thrive, even in the face of climate challenges.

NAREDCO Mahi Pitches Women-Led Growth in Realty, Infra for Dollar 1 Trillion Sector Vision

New Delhi, 19th June 2025: In a strong push to recognise women’s growing role in infrastructure and real estate development, NAREDCO Mahi, the women’s wing of the National Real Estate Development Council (NAREDCO), convened a focused media interaction in the national capital today. While the session also served as a curtain raiser to the 4th NAREDCO Mahi Convention, scheduled for 27th June, it focused sharply on the growing momentum of women-led development and the need to bring more women into India’s urban transformation story aligned with the nation’s Viksit Bharat vision for 2047.

Speakers pointed out that India’s real estate sector, currently valued at over $265 billion, is projected to touch $1 trillion by the end of this decade, contributing nearly 13% to the national GDP. Despite this high-growth potential, women still form only around 11 to 12 percent of the sector’s total workforce. However, change is underway. From project planning and design to compliance, construction supervision, and investment management, women are now increasingly involved in every layer of the real estate value chain.

Ms. Smita Patil, PresidentNAREDCO Mahi, shared that the organization is actively engaging with stakeholders to create inclusive pathways for women in the sector. She stated that beyond boardroom conversations, NAREDCO Mahi has been working on ground-led interventions around skilling and training for young women, climate-sensitive construction practices, sanitation and safety measures at construction sites, water conservation models at realty projects, and solid waste management frameworks for developers. She said that NAREDCO Mahi’s outreach has extended to Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities where women are now increasingly visible in marketing, legal, project finance, and client relations roles—areas once perceived as inaccessible to them.

Ms. Patil added that the upcoming 4th NAREDCO Mahi Convention will feature powerful narratives and real-world experiences of women transforming the real estate sector. One of the most anticipated segments will be a special session showcasing father-daughter duos who have broken generational stereotypes to shape modern realty leadership in India. The convention will also feature ‘Recognition of Mahi Sheroes,’ policy masterclasses, and a sectoral discussion on wellness living and sustainable housing, an area witnessing a compound annual growth rate of over 16 percent and emerging as one of the most sought-after trends in post-pandemic urban development.

Dr. Ananta Singh Raghuvanshi, Chairperson, NAREDCO Mahi, said that the upcoming convention is a leadership statement as much as an industry platform. She said that women are bringing empathy, precision, and people-centric innovation to how real estate is built and sold. Through focused initiatives in skilling, financial literacy, digital transformation, and sustainability, NAREDCO Mahi is working to increase women’s presence at all stages of the real estate journey from conceptualisation to delivery.

Shri G Hari Babu, National President, NAREDCO, said that India’s journey to becoming one of the world’s top three economies cannot exclude the participation of half its population. He stated that women are no longer merely participants—they are project heads, entrepreneurs, investors, and reformers who bring both strategic vision and social awareness to infrastructure and housing development. He added that from working in cooperative movements post-independence to taking boardroom roles today, Indian women have consistently shown leadership in the face of challenges.

The session highlighted that over 20 percent of registered architects in India today are women, increasingly taking the lead in urban planning, heritage conservation, and sustainable design practices. In Tier 1 cities, nearly 15 percent of real estate brokerage and advisory firms are now women-led, a significant rise compared to a decade ago. While women make up around 10 percent of the construction workforce largely in finishing and supervisory roles, there is a steady uptick in the number of women entering skilled positions, including site engineering and material management, especially through formal skilling programs and digital certifications. The allied sectors of interior design, legal real estate compliance, ESG advisory, green certification, and digital realty platforms are seeing over 35 to 40 percent female participation, particularly in metros and upcoming urban clusters.

Women leaders today are not just transforming real estate, they are redefining the business of building India. As developers, strategists, financiers, and policymakers, they bring sharp commercial acumen and enduring vision that is reshaping our urban economy. Empowering women in leadership roles is no longer a social conversation; it’s a strategic business decision. Their ability to balance risk, drive innovation, and lead with resilience is unlocking new opportunities across the value chain, from housing finance and construction technology to urban planning and sustainability,” said Dr. Niranjan Hiranandani, Chairman, NAREDCO.

Mr. Harsh Vardhan Bansal, President, NAREDCO Delhi, expressed that with more than 30 percent of startups in India now being led by women, the real estate sector must catch up with the country’s broader shift toward gender-balanced growth. He said that qualities like multitasking, emotional intelligence, and long-term vision, often overlooked in infra projects are being brought to the forefront by women professionals who are reshaping not just homes but also communities. He added that the soft power of women can be a game-changer in how India thinks about liveability, affordability, and sustainable development in the years ahead.

The 4th NAREDCO Mahi Convention is expected to bring together policy leaders, developers, real estate strategists, financial institutions, academics, and social change agents to discuss how women can play a central role in India’s infrastructure journey. As the country prepares its blueprint for Viksit Bharat, NAREDCO Mahi is ensuring that women are not only part of the narrative but are at the helm of it.

Gurgaon’s SPR Projected to Cross IND 1 Lakh Crore in Realty Sales

Gurgaon’s Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) is fast emerging as one of India’s most promising real estate and infrastructure corridors. Once viewed merely as a connecting stretch between Sohna Road and Golf Course Extension Road, SPR has transformed into a premium development hub—both for high-value real estate projects and large-scale infrastructure interventions that are now reshaping the urban landscape. With over ₹1 lakh crore worth of residential and commercial projects either launched or in the pipeline, and major gaps in road connectivity being rapidly filled, SPR is writing a new success story for Gurugram’s next phase of growth.

Building

In just the last two years, developers have announced or launched projects worth ₹50,000 crore along SPR. This figure is expected to double by 2027, making it one of the most active micro-markets in the country. What’s more impressive is the rise in property values—rates along the corridor have jumped upto ₹25,000 per square foot, reflecting soaring demand, better infrastructure, and investor confidence. Major developers such as DLF and Signature Global are anchoring this growth. DLF is gearing up for its next big phase, while Signature Global is developing a massive 93-acre township with 17 million square feet of saleable area, targeting over ₹27,000 crore in sales.

Fueling this real estate boom is the government’s aggressive push on infrastructure. In a major development, GMDA has successfully acquired two long-pending land parcels—5.9 acres near Sector 71 and another stretch near Sector 65—clearing the way for two critical link roads to be completed. These small but strategic connections—measuring 350 meters and 170 meters respectively—will eliminate detours, support new water and sewer lines, and improve access between key sectors like 62–65 and 71–73. The cost of acquiring these links stands at ₹3.2 crore, and tenders are expected to be issued soon after final approvals.

Beyond these local link roads, a grander mobility solution is also taking shape. A 5.5-kilometre elevated corridor has been proposed between Vatika Chowk and NH-8 to streamline traffic movement. With an allocation of ₹750 crore, including ₹620 crore for construction and ₹130 crore for land, this six-lane elevated road will include multiple entry-exit ramps and a cloverleaf interchange, enabling seamless movement to Dwarka Expressway, Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, and NH-248A. Designed to mirror the elevated stretches of Dwarka Expressway, this infrastructure is expected to cut down commuting time significantly and decongest key intersections.

Simultaneously, NHAI is preparing to shift the heavily congested Kherki Daula toll plaza to Panchgaon within the next three months—a long-awaited move that will greatly benefit SPR-bound commuters. Complementing this are over 95 kilometers of ongoing master road upgrades, flood-control initiatives, dedicated service lanes, stormwater drains, and STP facilities. New flyovers, improved sector-to-sector links, and mobile sewage treatment plants are being implemented to enhance livability and resilience across the SPR stretch.

Commenting on the region’s growth, Mr. Pradeep Aggarwal, Founder & Chairman of Signature Global (India) Ltd., said, “SPR today represents more than just a road—it symbolises the direction of Gurugram’s next phase of intelligent urbanisation. The combination of quality infrastructure, policy-driven growth, and a maturing market makes it a future-ready destination. At Signature Global, we believe SPR will continue to draw premium demand from homebuyers who prioritise connectivity, value, and sustainable living.”

Commenting on Gurugram’s evolving housing market, Mr. Ashok Kapur, Chairman, Krishna Group and Krisumi Corporation, said, Gurugram’s real estate landscape is undergoing a remarkable transformation, with micro-markets like the Southern Peripheral Road, Dwarka Expressway, Central Peripheral Road, and Golf Course Road witnessing rising demand. Today’s homebuyers are looking for well-connected, future-ready communities that offer integrated lifestyle amenities — and developers are adapting their offerings accordingly. At Krisumi, we view this shift as a strong indicator of a maturing market, where thoughtfully designed, globally inspired living spaces are becoming the new standard.”

Together, these efforts are converting the SPR corridor from a fragmented road network into an integrated urban spine. With real estate value driven by both luxury developments and essential infrastructure, the region is becoming a magnet for both end-users and investors. Gurugram’s future is being paved—quite literally—through SPR, where every meter of new road and every launched tower signals not just growth, but transformation.
