Hyderabad Black Hawks win five-set thriller against Chennai Blitz

Hyderabad Black Hawk

Hyderabad, 20th February 2023: Hyderabad Black Hawks defeated the Chennai Blitz 10-15, 15-14, 15-9, 12-15, 15-11 in the second season of the RuPay Prime Volleyball League powered by A23 at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium in Hyderabad. Superstar Vijay Deverakonda, who is the co-owner of the Hyderabad Black Hawks team was also in attendance to witness the thrilling contest. SV Guru Prashanth was named the Player of the match.

Jobin Varghese showed a fiery spirit straight off the bat, making his presence known with fiery attacks and strong blocks. Akhin’s presence breathed new life into Chennai’s attacks.

Naveen’s smart attacks from the outside lines kept causing troubles for the Hawks, but Guru kept bringing things back to level pegging with his spikes. Hemanth’s magic with the serves kept Hyderabad in the match. Guru found space to go for hard spikes and Hyderabad took control of the match.

The miscommunications between Chennai players led to errors from Akhin and Hyderabad made the most of it. Lal Sujan started feeding the middle and Trent O’Dea came to life to shut down Chennai’s resistance.

But just when it looked like the hosts will run away with the contest, libero Ramanathan and Prasanna began setting up Akhin for spikes. Pulling off a double duty, with serves and blocks from the middle, Akhin brought his team back into the contest.

With the match going right down to the wire, it was a real test of nerves for both sides. Hyderabad faltered with their receptions as Renato tested the opposition with powerful serves. But the two-man defense line of Saurabh Maan and John Joseph tackled Akhin and made sensational blocks in the final few minutes to help Hyderabad pick a sensational win.

Ahmedabad Defenders will be up against Chennai Blitz at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium on the fifth day of the Hyderabad leg of the RuPay Prime Volleyball League at 1900 hrs onwards IST on Sunday, 19th February 2023.

It will have a loyal following. It seemed like a smart business decision. And my love for the city and love for the sport made me do it,” Vijay said.

“What I love about volleyball is it’s super aggressive. It involves smashes, the dives. It’s a very quick-moving game. Every five minutes there are turns and changes. In school, we all really idolised the attackers. It’s a really cool game to follow and one of the biggest sports to follow in the world,” he added.

Hyderabad go down fighting against Jamshedpur

Hyderabad: In spite of a valiant effort by everyone present at the Maidaan, Hyderabad FC fell to a grueling 2-3 defeat against Jamshedpur FC in an entertaining Indian Super League clash at the GMC Balayogi Athletic Stadium in Hyderabad earlier today.

Bartholomew Ogbeche (12’, 79’) scored a brace while Joao Victor missed a penalty for Hyderabad. Ritwik Das (22’), Jay Emmanuel Thomas (27,p) and Daniel Chukwu (29’) scored in the space of 10 minutes to take a lead that HFC failed to catch in the end.

Manolo Marquez rang in the changes, naming a debutant in goal in Lalbiakhlua Jongte and an all-Indian backline. But his side started the game in fine fashion, also taking the lead through a Bart Ogbeche header from a Borja Herrera corner.

But Ritwik Das’ header and a penalty decision for Jamshedpur in the space of five minutes changed the game. The referee was aided by the linesman in the other half as he decided to consult the fourth official before awarding the visitors a spot kick, in a decision that was questioned by the HFC Head Coach.

Jay Thomas finished off in style before Chukwu beat Nim Dorjee Tamang and dinked one over Biaka to give Jamshedpur a two goal lead.

The second half rang into life after Eli Sabia was sent off for pulling Javi Siverio down as the last man. This allowed Hyderabad to push for a goal and they almost found it when Abdul Rabeeh’s cross was handled inside the box and Hyderabad were awarded a penalty.

However, Joao Victor, who came off the bench for his first outing in over a month, failed to beat Vishal Yadav from the spot. Hyderabad did find a goal through Ogbeche’s strike late in the game, and could have taken all three points with a late goal.

Javi Siverio got a chance just before the final whistle, but his header was straight at the keeper as Hyderabad failed to take their chances and fell to a narrow defeat.

This win keeps Hyderabad on 39 points from 19 games, as they now gear up for the final league clash against the Kerala Blasters at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi on Sunday, February 26.

Coimbatore’s Western Ring Road on track for commencement, foresees massive infrastructural development in its vicinity

It will not be longer before commuters from Coimbatore will have an easier route to travel to the outskirts of the city, avoiding the hustle and bustle of the city’s busy traffic. The commencement of the Coimbatore Western Outer Ring Road which has been in talks for the past few years is just a few months away from being fully operational. The Government has already proposed releasing the tender, post which the works will soon be scheduled to be completed within mere months.

The works will see the development of the 32.4 km, a four-lane road connecting Madukkarai on the Coimbatore-Palakkad Road to Narasimmanaickenpalayam on the Mettupalayam Road, which is anticipated to reduce traffic congestion on city roads by almost 40%, mainly for motorists who will take the route to travel to Mettupalayam, Nilgiris, and Mysuru. The proposed road expansion project will cover localities which will include Madukkarai, Sundakamuthur, Perur, Chettipalayam, Theethipalayam, Madhampatti, Chellappa Palayam, Siruvani Road to Kanuvai and Anaikatti Road to Narasimhanaikenpalayam in three phases. This initiative by the government to upgrade and extend road connectivity across the state however has an unnoticed side of the picture, which is the infrastructural development on the Ring Road and its vicinity following being operative. The location has always been a desired target spot for upscale real estate and social development ever since its initial proposal.

The recent update on the progress of the Western Ring Road is anticipated to naturally increase the momentum of land acquisition by real estate developers as its vicinities are already witnessing large land parcels being sold for commercial and residential purposes where high-end civil amenities like schools, hospitals, entertainment avenues like malls, cinema theatres, and gated residential communities are proposed to operate in the coming years. Another significant highlight of the Outer Ring Road is that it will have good connectivity with the Coimbatore (L&T) Bypass Road, an emerging hotspot for major infrastructural development which is in proximity with the upcoming Rs. 1,132 crores Coimbatore airport expansion project, Rs. 225 crores proposed defense corridor project, and the Rs. 168 crores Vellalore integrated bus terminus, which will be the largest integrated bus stand.

Ring Roads around the nation:

This is nevertheless not a distinctive case, Ring Roads around the nation have been always been instrumental in instituting massive infrastructural development, as they have witnessed the establishment of large-scale IT parks, schools, restaurants, and even healthcare facilities on its belt due to the availability of vast empty spaces in its vicinity. A major example of this is the development around the 158 km Jawaharlal Nehru Outer Ring Road in Hyderabad which is the largest ring road in the nation. The progress along Hyderabad’s Outer Ring Road (ORR) has already initiated numerous proposed large-scale townships, logistics hubs, and IT corridors. It has directly propelled the city’s transformation into a global hub with scope for more future development.

Similarly, the garden city’s 60 km ongoing massive Bangalore Peripheral Ring Road project apart from the traffic de-congestion foresees massive ultramodern real-estate development such as the establishment of high-rise buildings, future metro network, EV charging point stations and helipads for air-ambulance in the upcoming years. Its Neighboring city, Mysore’s 42.5-kilometer peripheral ring road is also seeing a revival in its market value as it is being instrumental in urbanizing nearly 40 villages on the outskirts of the city, especially with the Karnataka State Cricket Association’s (KSCA) planning to construct an International Cricket Stadium along the vicinity of the road. Up north, Delhi consists of one of the most prominent ring roads of the country, an 87 km combined main and outer ring road, which is also considered an emerging spot for infrastructural development as the government has already allotted around 15 acres of prime land along the Ring Road for commercial development which will include proposals for major malls and luxury hotels to be constructed.

Down south, Chennai holds its own ground in this discussion as it has seen colossal real-estate and commercial development around its Outer Ring Road belt. Even in its recent overhaul of development, the government has announced allocating 550 acres of land along the 62-km Chennai Outer Ring Road (State Highway 234) within which around 87 large-scale commercial development projects have been proposed. The ring road connects NH45 at Vandalur, NH4 at Nazarathpet, NH 205 at Nemilichery, NH5 at Nallur, and TPP road at Minjur will consist of projects which include a CMDA regional office, a hockey turf, an indoor stadium, a river-front park, musical fountain, and an urban park among others.

Development around Coimbatore Western Ring Road Vicinage:

The growth of ring roads around the nation clearly indicates that the Coimbatore Western Outer Ring Road is going to see a splurt of real estate development once it is up and running, which is not very far away. The development of this project post-completion is expected to thrust Coimbatore into being an emerging global destination. The city has already established numerous IT and software hubs which include TIDEL Park, Tata Consultancy Services, Cognizant Technology Solutions, Robert Bosch, DELL, KGISL, and CSS Corp Pvt Ltd with many more organizations coming up. These improvements are currently drawing in thousands of people to migrate into the city. Plots are currently selling like never before. Regions that will benefit from the progress of the road expansion are expected to skyrocket triple fold of its current investment especially places like Kovaipudur(also known as Little Ooty), which are capable of sustaining residential, commercial, and industrial establishments, making it the perfect spot to cater to the upcoming future Coimbatore. Buyers are already investing in lands here as the region already has numerous amenities which include schools, colleges, supermarkets, commercial offices, restaurants, and residential communities. With the initial phases of road expansion on track to commence, it will be of no surprise when all the development comes into place and merges with existing amenities, the land appreciation rate and real estate value of the land will be sky-high.

Bengaluru Torpedoes’ uphill journey continues with win over Kochi Blue Spikers

Hyderabad, 19th February 2023: Bengaluru Torpedoes picked up their third win in a row in the second season of the RuPay Prime Volleyball League powered by A23 after beating the Kochi Blue Spikers 15-14, 15-11, 7-15, 15-12, 14-15 at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium in Hyderabad on Friday. For his tactful performance, Srajan Shetty was named the player of the match.

Bengaluru relied on Srajan’s blocks and Ibin Jose’s attacks to get an early lead. Taking a leaf out of Kolkata Thunderbolts’ guidebook, Erin Varghese started targetting Tsvetelin Tsvetanov from the service line and the strategy worked in the Spikers’ favor.

Kochi did well to keep Tsvetanov quiet. Just when the Spikers appeared to be in control, Sethu TR, with a super serve, showed that Bengaluru will not back down easily.

The Torpedoes struggled to tackle Erin’s relentless attacks. With powerful serves, the Spikers pushed the Torpedoes backward, forcing them to react. But as Alireza Abalooch came to the court, skipper Pankaj Sharma became free to make an impact from the middle.

Srajan and Ibin’s defensive blocks once again brought Bengaluru back to take control of the match. Riding on Erin’s spikes, the Blues found another opening. Abhinav combined with Shubham Chaudhary to put a halt to Tsvetanov while errors from Mujeeb hurt Torpedoes.

Tsvetanov came late to the party but once he did, Kochi’s defensive structure began faltering. With consistent spikes, the Bulgarian tilted the game completely. Srajan continued to become better with blocks and he closed down the game to help Bengaluru Torpedoes register a stunning 3-2 win.

Hyderabad Black Hawks will be up against Chennai Blitz at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium on the fourth day of the Hyderabad leg of the RuPay Prime Volleyball League at 1900 hrs onwards IST on Saturday, 18th February 2023.

Civil 20 resolves to push governments and industries to address crucial climate and environment issues

Hyderabad / February 18, 2023: As part of the activities of the Civil 20 (C20) engagement group in India chaired by Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi, the Working Group on Sustainable and Resilient Communities organized a workshop in Delhi on “The Role of Technology Cooperation, Finance and Adoption Strategies for Addressing Net Zero Emissions Management”. The Working Group is focused on civil society’s role in addressing climate, environment, and net-zero targets.

As representatives of the people’s voices, C20 has resolved to push governments, industries, and G20 and G7 countries to uphold their commitments in technology development/transfer, financing the transition to net zero emissions, creating policies, and policy implementation environments. This includes the nations that signed the Paris Agreement, a legally binding international treaty on climate change adopted by 196 Parties in 2015.

More than 400 participants from 27 countries attended the hybrid workshop jointly organized by Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Vasudha Foundation, and Climate Action Network South Asia. They hailed from community service organizations, think tanks, industry, academia, World Bank, CII, German Embassy, and other G20 Groups such as Business20, Foundations20, Urban20, and Think20. The deliberations focused on three areas: technology cooperation, sustainable finance for climate resilience and justice, and challenges in the on-the-ground adoption of solutions.

Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi (Amma), Chair, C20, and the Minister of State for External Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs, Sri. V. Muraleedharan, jointly inaugurated the virtual event.

In her address, Amma cautioned that we had walked too far, too fast in polluting Mother Earth, causing too much destruction, and threatening the very survival of humanity. Blinded by narrow selfish, short-term goals, we have forgotten that the entire world is divine, she said. Amma stressed the importance of simple yet holistic initiatives like planting trees and carpooling to reduce our footprint on polluting nature.

Sri. V Muraleedharan highlighted the need to unite communities to make India’s G20 presidency a People20 presidency. He pointed to the interconnectedness of all life forms. The G20 motto Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam signifying ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future’ shares the value of oneness, he said. He urged Civil20 to facilitate knowledge sharing and best practices in accelerating the world to a low-carbon economy, justice, and equitable finance. He also asked to promote Prime Minister Sri Narendra Modi’s call for LiFE—Lifestyle For Environment—a community-led introspection and adaptation of each of our lifestyles for sustainable development.

Dr. Maneesha Sudheer, SRC Working Group Coordinator and Provost, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Sri Srinivas Krishnaswami, CEO, Vasudha Foundation, and Mr. Sanjay Vashist, Director, Climate Action Network South Asia, also addressed the inaugural event.

Said Dr. Maneesha Sudheer, the Working Group Coordinator of Sustainable & Resilient Communities and Provost of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham: “What gives an edge to India’s G20 presidentship is the deep commitment to Indian values that are universal. Climate issues, environmental issues, and net zero targets are all interlinked. We cannot bring change without working together and building resilient communities.”

Sri Srinivas Krishnaswami, CEO of Vasudha Foundation, said, “For a country to achieve its net zero targets, everyone has to play their role. Civil society’s role in this journey is crucial. They can play at multiple levels, from creating knowledge and awareness on issues to developing compelling stories on the need for compassion for nature and the environment to providing technical support to various agencies to achieve net zero.”

Said Dr. Sasangan Ramanathan, Dean, School of Engineering, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham: “Implementing the climate action agreements requires global awareness and willingness to re-invent lifestyles. G7 and G20 countries can lead by example, allow access to technology and equitable financing, and build on success stories across continents. Any new technology should look at a circular economy and avoid creating new problems for future generations. Net zero targets in Paris Agreement need to be complemented through a global agreement on energy transition from fossil fuels to renewables.”

The working group promised to promote community-led, women-led, participatory development of decentralized, contextual solutions financed through innovative public and private means. It emphasized the need to think above the growth versus emissions paradigm, accelerating inclusive growth in LDCs and developing economies while adopting sustainable solutions.

The event ended with inputs from the C20 Troika – 2022 (Indonesia) Mr. Ah Maftuchan, 2023 (India) Swami Amritaswarupananda Puri, and 2024 (Brazil) Ms. Alessandra Nilo. Amb.

Vijay Nambiar was the Chief Guest for the valedictory ceremony. Prof. Vinod Menon, C20 Principal Coordinator, SRC Working Group Coordinator, and also the Founder of the National Disaster Management Authority, also gave his insights.

The Civil 20 engagement group will develop documents recommending policy interventions to India’s G20 presidency through the contributions from this event and many such events over the next six months.
