Survey: 72% of Financial Institutions to Invest Big in ESG Technology

Chennai, July 11, 2024: BCT Digital, a global digital transformation company delivering FinTech, RegTech, and SustainTech solutions, in collaboration with Chartis Research, has published the findings of their extensive ESG and Climate Risk Survey. Titled ‘Chartis Market View: ESG and Climate Risk Survey’, it analyzes how global financial institutions are integrating ESG and climate risk factors into their risk management and investment decision-making processes.

The survey captured insights from 77 ESG and climate risk practitioners representing financial institutions with assets under management ranging from $1 bn to $500 bn based in the APAC, North America, Europe and the MENA region. It is found that over 72% of global financial institutions plan to spend upto $500,000 or more on ESG technology. In this bid, over half of global financial institutions feel keeping up with changing regulations as the biggest ESG-related challenge.

Key findings:

Most firms review their ESG strategies quarterly, spending an average of $250,000 to $500,000 annually, with North American and European institutions more likely to exceed $500,000. The next year’s investments are expected to focus on ESG data and scoring products, governance, risk management and compliance (GRC) solutions, and regulatory compliance and reporting tools.

As per the findings, when it comes to ESG, 52% of the respondents indicated regulatory compliance, being the most significant challenge. About 48% of the respondents identified risk assessment and mapping relevant ESG whereas another 48% viewed integrating ESG into operational and financial workflows as significant challenges.

With respect to climate risk, the main challenges are meeting regulatory stress testing expectations (67%), accurate GHG (Greenhouse gas) accounting (56%) and integrating climate risk operationally into product lines (50%). Most firms spend between $250,000 and $500,000 on climate risk solutions, with future investments likely to be directed towards emissions data, transitional climate risk modeling, and regulatory reporting tools.

Telangana IT Minister Inaugurates Global IT & Innovation Center in Hyderabad

Bengaluru, India – July 11, 2024 – Medtronic, the global leader in medical technology, inaugurated its new Global IT (GIT) Center at Medtronic Engineering & Innovation Center (MEIC), Hyderabad in the presence of Honorable Minister for IT, Industries and Commerce, Government of Telangana, Shri D Sridhar Babu and US Consul General, Ms. Jennifer Larson, along with senior leaders from Medtronic including Ms. Rashmi Kumar, SVP and CIO Global, Medtronic, and Mr. Divya Prakash Joshi, Vice President & Site Leader of MEIC.

Global IT Center is Medtronic’s first large-scale IT center outside of US. The company will be investing $60 Mn which will support in creating 300 new job opportunities over the next 3-5 years. GIT will focus on cutting-edge technologies such as Cloud Engineering, Data Platforms, Digital Health applications, Hyper automation, and AI/ML. The talent competencies include Cloud & DevOps, Advanced Analytics & Visualization, Integration & Middleware, Full Stack Engineering, Robotic Process Automation, Process & Data Mining, Agile Program Management, Process Excellence & Business Analysis, along with IT Security & Compliance. Through these competencies, the new GIT center will boost productivity, manage risks, and drive growth in healthcare technology.

IBM to launch a GenAI Innovation Center in Kochi

Kochi, India – 10th July, 2024 : IBM (NYSE: IBM) today announced the launch of its GenAI Innovation Center in Kochi which will allow enterprises, start-ups, and partners to explore, experience, and build generative AI technology. As organizations transition from AI experimentation to deployment for adding business value, they often find AI projects too complex or difficult to integrate due to limited skills or expertise. To address this challenge, the GenAI Innovation Center will provide organizations with access to IBM experts and technologies designed to help them build, scale and accelerate adoption of enterprise-grade AI.

The center is built on InstructLab, a new technology jointly developed by IBM and Red Hat for enhancing Large Language Models (LLMs) with a client’s own data and will also take advantage of IBM watsonx AI and data platform and AI assistant technologies. It will allow clients to learn about the fine-tuning of LLMs and to partner with IBM to have their own trained, fine-tuned, and governed models deployed for their enterprise use cases.

The GenAI Innovation Center will be a part of the IBM India Software Lab in Kochi and will be managed by IBM’s technical experts. With access to the latest in generative AI technology, LLMs, case studies, and IBM experts, the center will nurture a community focused on harnessing the power of generative AI to address societal and business challenges ranging from sustainability, public infrastructure, healthcare education, inclusion and more.
