Vadodara, Sep 8: Vadodara is set for a major infrastructure boost with Prime Minister Narendra Modi launching and laying the foundation for development projects worth more than Rs 35,000 crore on Tuesday.
The projects cover key areas such as railways, freight movement, highways, renewable energy, housing and urban infrastructure, with the aim of improving connectivity and supporting economic activity across Gujarat.
One of the biggest components is the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor. Three sections covering 326 route kilometres have been commissioned with an investment of more than Rs 20,700 crore. The new sections are expected to make the movement of goods between industrial centres and ports faster and more efficient.
For businesses, improved freight connectivity could mean smoother supply chains, fewer transportation delays and better access to domestic and international markets. The infrastructure is also expected to strengthen Gujarat’s position as a major manufacturing and logistics hub.
Three new railway projects covering around 329 kilometres have also been taken up at an estimated cost of more than Rs 9,700 crore. The projects are designed to increase rail capacity, reduce congestion and improve connectivity between Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.
The road network will also receive a boost through three National Highway projects worth around Rs 1,780 crore. The works include improvements on NH-48 and NH-53, along with flyovers and other structures aimed at easing traffic and improving road safety.
The development package further includes Gujarat government projects worth around Rs 2,600 crore. These include the second phase of the Vadodara Ring Road, a 110 MW floating solar project at Kadana Dam, a new Vadodara Municipal Corporation office and projects related to housing and water supply.
The combined investment is expected to create opportunities for construction, logistics, manufacturing, renewable energy and other supporting industries while improving everyday connectivity for residents.
With infrastructure development accelerating across the state, the projects are expected to give Vadodara and surrounding areas stronger transport links and a better foundation for future investment and economic growth.
