PHDCCI Organises Training Programme on Risk Assessment and Fire Insurance

Sep 22: The PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in association with the Insurance Foundation of India, organised a full-day training programme on “Risk Assessment and Fire Insurance” on 21 September 2026 at PHD House, New Delhi.

The programme brought together industry professionals and insurance experts to enhance understanding of property risk assessment, fire prevention, underwriting, insurance policy selection, claims management and dispute resolution.

Delivering the welcome remarks, Ms. Babeeta Sharma, Director, PHDCCI, highlighted the importance of strengthening awareness among corporates on systematic risk assessment and appropriate insurance protection to safeguard business assets and ensure continuity in the event of unforeseen incidents.

The programme featured a series of technical and interactive sessions led by experienced insurance professionals, industry practitioners, surveyors, claims specialists and legal experts.

Mr. S. K. Sethi, Founder & CEO, Insurance Foundation of India and Director, RIA Insurance Brokers Pvt. Ltd., opened the technical sessions with “Risk Assessment – Necessity”, highlighting the importance of identifying and evaluating risks before selecting appropriate insurance coverage.

Mr. Mohinder Jindal, Former Deputy General Manager, Oriental General Insurance Co. Ltd., addressed participants on fire hazards and fire prevention, followed by a detailed session on underwriting and evaluation, important clauses under fire insurance, perils and add-on covers, and insurance considerations for mega projects.

Providing the corporate perspective, Mr. Manoj Pandey, Insurance Head, LG Electronics India Ltd., shared insights on key considerations for corporates while buying or renewing insurance policies, with emphasis on aligning insurance protection with business requirements.

A detailed session by Mr. S. K. Jain, Insurance Expert, Author and Former VP & Director, Insurance Brokers Association of India, covered major property insurance products, including the Bharat Sookshma Udyam Suraksha Policy, Bharat Laghu Udyam Suraksha Policy and Standard Fire & Special Perils Policy. He also discussed the surveyor and consultant perspective on property claims and the role of insurance consultants.

Dr. Yoginder Paul, Advocate and Former Regional Manager, National Insurance Company Ltd., sensitised participants on the actions required following a major accident, covering immediate response, setting up a task force, documentation, interaction with surveyors and insurers, involvement of insurance intermediaries and the circumstances in which a claims consultant or lawyer may be required.

The programme also featured an insurer’s perspective on claims management by Mr. Saurabh Agrawal, Associate Vice President – Commercial Claims, TATA AIG General Insurance Company Ltd., who discussed high-value claims, claims that are paid or repudiated, and the expectations of insurers from clients to facilitate early settlement.

Mr. R. D. Singh, Senior Lawyer, Tripaksha Litigations, addressed the participants on claims disputes and their underlying causes, along with legal aspects and relevant litigation case studies.

The programme further covered Business Interruption Insurance, with Mr. Mohinder Jindal highlighting its relevance for corporates seeking protection against financial losses arising from business disruptions.

The concluding technical session by Mr Sameer Nandwani, Insurance Specialist Lawyer, focused on important case studies from courts, consumer forums and arbitration, providing practical learnings for corporates in managing insurance-related claims and disputes.

The programme offered participants a comprehensive understanding of the property insurance lifecycle—from risk assessment and fire prevention to underwriting, policy selection, claims management and legal recourse. The interactive sessions and practical case studies enabled participants to gain insights into effective risk mitigation and insurance claim management.

PHDCCI, in association with the Insurance Foundation of India, continues to facilitate industry-oriented knowledge initiatives aimed at enhancing professional capabilities and promoting greater awareness of risk management, insurance protection and business resilience among the corporate sector.
