TATA IPL 2023 is now entering a tough week as teams will make the last dash to qualify for the playoffs in their coming games.

On Saturday, Sunrisers Hyderabad host Lucknow Super Giants in the first double-header and in the evening game Delhi Capitals host northern rivals Punjab Kings in their backyard.

With two crucial points on the line, all four teams will look to go all-in, because winners will stay in the playoffs contention in TATA IPL 2023. With 10 points, both LSG and PBKS will try to stay afloat in the competition with wins in their upcoming games. But a loss for SRH and DC might all but end their journey in this edition.

Former India cricketer Virender Sehwag reckons LSG has been one of the most balanced sides in the ongoing competition.

Speaking on Star Sports’ Cricket Live, Virender Sehwag said, “Lucknow Super Giants are one of the best and most balanced teams in this tournament. They’ve done well playing away from home but their performance at home ground in Lucknow hasn’t been up to the mark.”

Former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar is impressed with the way Punjab Kings’ wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma has performed this season and claimed the Punjab cricketer has been a key member of the side.

Speaking on Star Sports’ Cricket Live, Sunil Gavaskar said, “Jitesh Sharma has been contributing well for PBKS, he’s been striking the ball at a good rate at the back end of the innings. He’s giving Punjab just the push and momentum towards the last 4/5 overs, which they haven’t had in the previous years. So his contribution with the bat cannot be undermined.”

Star Sports, the official television broadcaster of the TATA IPL 2023, showcased the highly anticipated ‘Rivalry Week’, between 6th and 12th May 2023. The last day of the Rivalry Week witnessed another entertaining game between Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans. The Rivalry Week finished on a high as it delivered some of the most intense and exciting matches between the greatest rivals in the history of TATA IPL. Most of the teams are still within reach of the playoffs spot, making this edition one of the most closely fought contests in the 15 years of the tournament. The rivalry week kick-started on May 6th with one of the ‘Greatest Rivalries’ of TATA IPL and will culminate with a high-profile battle between five-time champions and defending champions.

In the last game of the Rivalry Week, five-time champions Mumbai Indians registered a convincing 27-run win over holders Gujarat Titans at the iconic Wankhede Stadium. Living to the late bloomers tag, MI have now won four of their last five games and brought themselves into the playoffs race. In a battle of heavyweights, MI star Suryakumar Yadav set the stage on fire with yet another blitzkrieg. SKY slammed his maiden ton in TATA IPL, and with a crucial partnership with Vishnu Vinod, guided MI to a mammoth total. MI bowlers then defended quite convincingly, despite a late blitz from Rashid Khan.

Hailing SKY for his scintillating knock of 103* off 49 balls, former India cricketer Virender Sehwag said SKY brings assurance in the MI dugout.

Speaking on Star Sports’ Studio, Virender Sehwag said, “Surya has not only dazzled Wankhede with his batting but has also enhanced the prestige of this tournament. For Gujarat Titans, it was just a night about one man in their team i.e. Rashid Khan. The star from Afghanistan waged a lone battle with the ball and later played a blistering knock with the bat to save the defending champions the ignominy of a morale-sapping defeat.

The in-form leg-spinner, Rashid, first picked up a four-for with the ball and later blasted a 32-ball 79* and smashed ten towering sixes.

Former India cricketer Mohammed Kaif commended Rashid Khan for his all-round show in the game and stressed Gujarat Titans are lucky to have such a big player in their ranks.

Speaking on Star Sports’ Studio, Md Kaif said, “Gujarat Titans are lucky to have a player like Rashid Khan. He isn’t just a special bowler but also a good batter. He never gives up. Almighty has been benevolent on GT as they got a world-class cricketer in Rashid.”

Kaif also lauded MI for winning the game and earning two vital points, which will not only keep them in playoffs contention but also boost their morale.
