Indian Glove Industry Awaits Implementation of Quality Control Order

New Delhi, 21st May 2025: Indian glove manufacturers are calling for the prompt implementation of the Medical and Surgical Gloves (Quality Control) Order (QCO), which has now been in the public domain for 60 days following its submission to the World Trade Organization (WTO) under the Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Agreement. The QCO, introduced by the Department of Pharmaceuticals under the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, mandates Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification for all medical and surgical gloves—both imported and domestically manufactured.

While the industry welcomes and appreciates the government’s decisive step toward protecting public health and supporting the domestic glove manufacturing sector, stakeholders are increasingly concerned over delays in enforcement.

Manmohan Gulati, Secretary of the Indian Rubber Glove Manufacturers Association (IRGMA) said, “The 60-day WTO consultation period, which allows member countries and stakeholders to provide feedback, has now concluded. However, in the absence of formal notification, incidents of regulatory violations and illegal dumping of substandard gloves have continued to rise.”

Anindith Reddy, Managing Director of Enliva – Wadi Surgicals, stated that,“The formal implementation of the QCO will be a breakthrough for domestic manufacturers which have been struggling to compete against the influx of low quality, non-compliant gloves. With the notification of QCO, manufacturing, storing and sale of non-BIS certified gloves will be prohibited. The timely implementation of the QCO is critical not only to curb the influx of low-quality imports but also to strengthen India’s Make in India initiative by ensuring fair competition and promoting high-quality domestic production.”

The QCO is poised to address a major loophole exploited through the import of illegal, substandard gloves by mandating strict compliance with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and ISI certification on all gloves, both imported and domestically manufactured. Industry estimates that the new QCO will directly impact the average annual import of ₹450–500 crore worth of such illegal products, thereby ensuring only safe, certified gloves enter the Indian market. The industry, while supportive of the regulation, is keenly awaiting the final notification and enforcement mechanism. The Indian Glove manufacturing industry urges for a timely implementation of the QCO to protect public health from the risks posed by poor-quality medical gloves.

Global State of Security Report Reveals Critical Need for Connected Security Operations

INDIA – May 21, 2025 –– Splunk, the cyber security and observability leader, today released its ‘State of Security 2025’ global research report, highlighting the mounting challenges faced by Security Operations Centres (SOCs). The report uncovers the pain points that mire down organisations and open their doors to threats. Alarmingly, 46% of respondents said they spend more time maintaining tools than defending the organisation, while only 11% trust AI completely for mission-critical tasks. Furthermore, 66% experienced a data breach in the past year, making it the most common security incident.

With new threats such as AI-powered attacks, organisations must be fully prepared and confident in protecting themselves and their customers. The common thread in addressing these concerns is to build a unified SOC that combines human expertise with AI advancements.

‘Organisations are increasingly leaning on AI for threat hunting and detection and other mission-critical tasks, but we don’t see AI taking complete oversight of the SOC – for good reason,’ says Michael Fanning, CISO at Splunk. ‘Human oversight remains central to effective cyber security, and AI is used to enhance human capabilities to help where it truly matters: defending the organisation.’

‘As cyber threats grow in volume and sophistication, security teams are under constant pressure,’ said Nate Lesser, CISO at Children’s National Hospital. ‘According to Splunk’s State of Security report, the industry is struggling with escalating workloads, alert fatigue and a shortage of skilled talent. Integrating AI and automation helps us address these risks and empowers our teams with smarter tools to ensure our organisation remains resilient.’

Security teams plagued by technological inefficiencies while external threats increase

When SOC workflows aren’t operating at their peak, it creates major barriers to effective threat detection and response. The report highlights areas of inefficiencies that create risk for organisations:

  • 59% say tool maintenance is the main source of inefficiency
  • 78% say their security tools are dispersed and disconnected
  • 69% say disconnected and dispersed tools creates moderate to significant challenges

Tool maintenance, data silos and alert fatigue bog down SOC teams. These day-to-day burdens drain valuable time and impact an analyst’s ability to respond quickly and decisively. The report revealed:

  • 57% report losing valuable investigation time to data management gaps
  • 59% have too many alerts
  • 55% have to address too many false positives

SOC analysts are overworked and understaffed

Beyond operational hurdles, the report sheds light on the immense pressure for SOC analysts. High stress levels, chronic understaffing and burnout are taking a toll and put talent retention and long-term team stability at risk. Findings show that:

  • 52% say their team is overworked
  • 52% say stress on the job has prompted them to think about leaving cyber security altogether
  • 42% face unrealistic expectations by leadership

GenAI in the SOC is paying long-term dividends for organisations

Organisations see how AI can alleviate operational and staff shortage problems, as 59% have moderately or significantly boosted their efficiency with AI. Over half (56%) have prioritised the application of AI to security workflows this year, while 1 in 3 (33%) plan to fill skills gaps with AI and automation.

Compared to publicly available tools, 63% agree that domain-specific AI significantly or extremely enhances security operations. However, AI is not running solo as organisations keep humans in the loop to deliver trustworthy AI outcomes. The top three tasks that GenAI is helping across SOCs included:

  • Threat intelligence analysis (33%)
  • Querying security data (31%)
  • Writing/editing security policies (29%)

A unified approach accelerates operations

Minimising tool maintenance is just the starting point for the benefits of a unified security platform. Adopting a unified approach for threat detection and response leads to tighter collaboration, bringing more context and speed to investigations. Sharing information across security and observability isn’t fully embraced yet, but those who have made the leap report noteworthy advantages. Specifically, 78% of respondents cited faster incident detection and 66% noted quicker remediation as moderate to transformative benefits.

Methodology

In collaboration with Oxford Economics, researchers surveyed 2,058 security leaders (including directors of security, vice presidents of cyber security, directors of security operations and security analysts) between October and December 2024. Respondents were located in Australia, France, Germany, India, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, the United Kingdom and the United States. The survey spanned 16 industries, including business services, construction and engineering, consumer packaged goods, education, financial services, government (federal/national, state and local), healthcare, life sciences, manufacturing, technology, media, oil and gas, retail and wholesale, telecoms, transport and logistics and utilities.

Arctic Wolf 2025 Trends Report Reveals AI is Now the Leading Cybersecurity Concern for Security and IT Leaders

Bangalore, India, 21st May 2025 – Arctic Wolf®, a global leader in security operations, today published findings from its State of Cybersecurity: 2025 Trends Report, offering insights from a global survey of more than 1,200 senior IT and cybersecurity decision-makers across 15 countries. Conducted by Sapio Research, the report captures the realities, risks, and readiness strategies shaping the modern security landscape.

The research reveals a shifting risk environment, with artificial intelligence (AI) and large language models (LLMs) emerging as the top concern for security leaders. For the first time, AI, including tools such as LLMs, has overtaken ransomware as the most pressing issue. While organizations are making substantial cybersecurity investments, the report also highlights persistent challenges including limited visibility, outdated incident response plans, and budget pressures.

Key findings from the report include:

  • AI Surpasses Ransomware as the Top Concern: 29% of security leaders cited AI, LLMs, and privacy issues as their number one concern, surpassing ransomware, malware, and data extortion (21%).
  • Breaches are Common and Transparency is Improving: 52% of respondents confirmed a breach in the past year (up from 48%), with 97% of known breaches disclosed. This indicates progress in regulatory compliance and incident transparency.
  • Significant Attacks Remain Widespread: 70% of organizations experienced at least one significant cyber-attack in 2024, with malware and business email compromise being the most common.
  • Professional Ransomware Negotiators Reduce Payouts: Among those hit by ransomware, 76% paid. Of those, 90% engaged a professional negotiator, which led to reduced payments in more than half of the cases.
  • Endpoint Tools Are Widely Deployed but Visibility Lags: While 84% use next-generation endpoint security solutions, only 40% say they have 100% coverage and expect to maintain it.

“Arctic Wolf’s 2025 Trends Report offers a telling snapshot of how security leaders are thinking,” said Dan Schiappa, president, Technology and Services, Arctic Wolf. “AI’s rapid emergence is creating new uncertainty, not only in how attackers operate but also in how defenders must respond. At the same time, ransomware remains a persistent and costly threat. As organizations race to implement AI-powered tools, it is critical they also do not lose sight of core security fundamentals like patching vulnerabilities, implementing detection and response, and maintaining a current incident response plan.

Coping with Lung Cancer Diagnosis: What Every Indian Patient Needs to Know

Dr. Mallikarjun, Consultant – Interventional Pulmonology and Sleep Medicine, HCG Cancer Hospital, KR Road, Bengaluru.

The Moment of Truth

lung cancer diagnosis depicts one of those moments that divide life in two—Before, and, After. For many Indian patients, the information comes as a personal catastrophe, rather than simply a medical diagnosis. The impact of having your doctor telling you that you have lung cancer, when you were expecting your persistent cough to be asthma, or an allergy, is hard to process, mentally; and even harder to talk about.

Far from being rare, anymore, Lung Cancer in now one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths in the country. Alarmingly, a growing number of these patients are non-smokers. Air pollution, indoor smoke from cooking, genetic predispositions, and even occupational exposure to harmful substances are contributing to a spike, especially in urban areas, such as Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru.

First Breathe. Then Ask Questions.

When you come face-to-face with a devastating truth, the thing to do is to pause and take a breath—literally. Gather your mental and emotional reserves. Then begin asking the right questions:

  • What type of lung cancer is it?
  • What stage are we looking at?
  • What are the treatment options?
  • What kind of support—medical, emotional, financial—will I need?

Knowledge is power—it’s also reassurance. Understanding your condition dilutes the fear and helps you take informed decisions.

Treatment is Vastly Advanced

Cancer is no longer a death sentence. In India, treatment methodology is advancing rapidly. Depending on the type and stage, treatment may include:

  • Surgery, to remove localized tumours
  • Chemotherapy and radiation
  • Targeted therapy, for cancers with specific genetic mutations (such as EGFR or ALK)
  • Immunotherapy, which leverages the body’s own immune system, to fight cancer

Numerous tertiary centres in India now provide Advanced Cancer Care.

The Overlooked Emotional Aftershock

The diagnosis leaves many patients with a sense of grief, guilt, or even shame—particularly if they were smokers. Some withdraw. Others panic. Mental health support is vital, but in India, this reality is insufficiently recognized.

Anxiety, depression, and sleep disturbances are common, but manageable. Counselling, online or in-person, mindfulness practices, including yoga, meditation, or even joining lung cancer support groups (like Lung Connect India) can curb emotional isolation.

Nutrition and Gut Health: Fuelling the Body to Fight

Nutrition is often neglected during treatment, but it can be a game-changer. Chemo or radiation can induce nausea, weight loss, fatigue, or gut discomfort. A balanced, high-protein, antioxidant-rich Indian diet (with dals, curd, fruits, nuts, and green vegetables) can help the body to cope and recover faster. Fermented foods such as buttermilk and idli can enhance gut health, and support treatment. Small, frequent meals, rather than forced, large ones help to manage low appetite.

Consulting a clinical nutritionist specialized in oncology care is highly recommended.

Side Effects Are Real—and So Is Support

Side effects of treatment, such as hair loss, fatigue, changes in taste or skin tone must be recognized as equally physical and emotional. These, including the smallest discomforts can be effectively managed through open communication with your doctor. Medications and practices exist, to manage almost every symptom. No need to suffer in silence.

The Cost Factor?

Cancer care can be expensive, but many financial aid options exist.

  • Ayushman Bharat Yojana offers support to eligible families.
  • State government health schemes, particularly in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Andhra Pradesh.
  • Indian Cancer Society, and other NGOs, also offer cancer aid funding.

Promptly consult the hospital’s medical social worker, or your oncologist, about paperwork and applications.

Faith, Family, and Finding New Meaning

Many patients discover a renewed sense of purpose, after diagnosis. Spending more time with family, reconnecting with friends, or returning to a spiritual practice, all illustrate that coping and healing extend beyond medical support. In Indian households, extended family plays a big role, and that support can be both a comfort and a responsibility. Don’t hesitate to set boundaries or ask for space, when needed.

The Power of Shared Experience

One of the most powerful ways to heal is to know you’re not the only one. Online forums, WhatsApp groups for cancer patients, and hospital-organized meetups are growing in India. Listening to someone else’s survival story can profoundly restore hope.

Lung Cancer is not an End—It is a New Chapter

The agony is real, but the internal powerhouse should persist. Recovering from lung cancer is not impossible—and may even be transformational, with optimal Medicare, emotional support and community bonding.
