AI to Expand, Not Replace, Role of India’s IT Services Sector: Nasscom

New Delhi, June 26: Artificial Intelligence (AI) is expected to expand the scope and capabilities of India’s IT services sector rather than reduce its role, industry body Nasscom said on Thursday.

Nasscom noted that AI-led transformation is reshaping global technology services, creating new opportunities in areas such as automation, data analytics, software development, and digital engineering. Far from replacing jobs at scale, AI is expected to augment human capabilities and drive demand for new skill sets.

The industry body said India’s IT services sector is well positioned to benefit from this transition due to its strong talent base, established global delivery model, and ongoing investments in upskilling and reskilling of the workforce.

It added that companies are increasingly integrating AI into their service offerings, enabling greater efficiency, faster innovation cycles, and more value-added solutions for global clients.

Nasscom emphasised that the future of the sector will be shaped by a “human-plus-AI” model, where technology enhances productivity while creating new categories of work and business opportunities.

The statement highlights growing industry confidence that AI will act as a growth multiplier for India’s IT services industry rather than a disruptive threat.
