Scrut Automation raises funding of $7.5 Mn, led by MassMutual Ventures, Lightspeed, and Endiya Partners

22 February 2023: Furthering its rapid growth, Scrut Automation, a leading Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) Automation platform in APAC, has raised a new round of funding of $7.5 Mn, led by MassMutual Ventures, with existing investors, Lightspeed and Endiya Partners, increasing their stake. MassMutual Ventures has been an active investor in the risk and security domains, with investments in leading companies across cyber-risk prediction and management, threat assessment, data security, and IoT security, and comes in as a strong partner for Scrut Automation.

Founded in 2021 by Aayush Ghosh Choudhury, Kush Kaushik, and Jayesh Gadewar, Scrut Automation provides an information security monitoring platform, aimed at helping small and medium cloud-native enterprises develop and maintain a robust security posture, and comply with various infosec standards such as SOC 2, ISO 27001, GDPR, and the like with ease. With the help of the Scrut platform, customers have been able to reduce their manual effort for security and compliance tasks by 70%.

In the last few years, the frequency and intensity of breaches have increased drastically, which have made it imperative for cloud-native enterprises to continuously monitor their security posture, and comply with multiple frameworks across geographies. The platform plans to use the fresh capital to simplify risk management and infosec compliance for cloud-native SaaS, Fintech, and Healthtech companies – automating ~70% of manual tasks and reducing tool fatigue from managing disparate point tools for security. Scrut will deepen its risk observability and management capabilities, as well as expand its presence in the US market with the assistance of MassMutual Ventures’ expertise. The company currently works with customers in India, Singapore, and the US, providing them with a unified view of an organization’s compliance posture.

Commenting on the latest fundraise, Aayush Ghosh Choudhury, CEO and Co-Founder of Scrut Automation, says, “We at Scrut have been hyper-focused on helping CISOs and InfoSec Heads across cloud-native companies build and maintain a risk-first security posture, enabling them, in turn, to become more agile in managing their risk and security posture and simplify compliance across 20+ InfoSec standards with ease. The fresh capital infusion will help us deepen our product capabilities and expand our market presence for mid-market CISOs. We are happy to have marquee investors backing us in our journey.”

Anvesh Ramineni, Managing Partner at MassMutual Ventures, added, “We are delighted to support the Scrut team, as we believe their robust compliance and security offerings will assist rapidly growing companies around the world in accelerating revenue growth. Scrut’s leadership team’s deep domain expertise and strong understanding of customer needs, coupled with the platform’s risk-first approach and scalability have been the primary reasons for its success. The product roadmap is exciting, with significant enhancements to risk observability, control automation, monitoring, and orchestration capabilities and will position Scrut as a leader in the space.”

Dev Khare, Partner, Lightspeed said; “The rise in cybersecurity threats around the world is real and fast-growing. We are excited to see Scrut’s GRC one-stop-shop solution address this threat. As a result, there is widespread acceptance of Scrut’s GRC solution by mid-market enterprises in the US and Asia.”

Sateesh Andra, MD, Endiya Partners, added, “Endiya Partners is proud to be a part of Scrut Automation’s journey from the beginning. Organizations need to keep up with the ever-changing and complex information security landscape to remain compliant with SOC 2, GDPR, CCPA, and other regulations. This makes investing in the right Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) platforms necessary and Scrut Automation provides the perfect solution. Scrut combines multiple capabilities across cloud governance, policy and evidence management, asset management into a comprehensive risk-first approach – which reduces tool fatigue for CISOs at mid-market and growth stage companies.”

As Scrut Automation embarks on its new journey, it has introduced several cybersecurity luminaries to join the company’s Board of Advisors.

Kickstarting their operations in the heart of Singapore’s commercial centre with office space in Robinson Road, Decentro is applying for a payments licence from the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) via its new entity. The company has also brought Saksham Shubham, a former Grab senior member, and WingPay Chief Business Officer, as Business Head for South East Asia to drive the business operations in the Asia Pacific region. With over 10 years of experience centred around building brands and businesses from scratch, Saksham has a penchant for understanding
businesses, scaling them and building operationally profitable models.

Talking about the expansion, Rohit Taneja, CEO & Co-Founder of Decentro, “We are thrilled to be entering a country that has a fairly evolving and responsive ecosystem of fintech companies. The growing synergy between India and Singapore on digital payments and their public infrastructure offers us an opportunity to take forward our experience and expertise in simplifying payments in India to a dynamic economy like Singapore.”

“In the previous 5 years, India has emerged as a leader in digital payments infrastructure such as Unified Payments Interface (UPI), and now other countries are looking to partner with Indian companies to yield similar results for them. This brings a big opportunity for platforms like us to strive to provide the best financial platform for new-age companies to build at 10X the speed,” Taneja added.

Having empowered over 300+ companies across various commerce and fintech domains such as Consumer Platforms, Non-Banking Financial Firms (NBFCs), Loan Service Providers (LSPs), Prepaid Issuers (PPIs), Neobanks, Wealth Managers and Personal Finance apps, and more in India, Decentro is now looking to simplify payment & banking flows for companies incepted or willing to expand in Singapore.

Our central banks and regulators have been learning from each other and working together closely for the past couple of years. Looking at UPI-based payments this year within Singapore will be revolutionary, and we expect this to bolster micro-payments in the domestic payments space. More importantly, our learnings from a hyper-competitive country like India will help us provide a much stronger API-based infrastructure for companies in this region.”

Technical Consumer Goods Market in India registered 29% value growth in 2022: GfK

22 February,2023-Hyderabad: Technical Consumer Goods (TCG) saw value growth of 29% from January to December 2022 compared to the same period in 2021, according to GfK, a global leader in the market and consumer intelligence.

GfK Market Intelligence Offline Sales Tracking for Jan – Dec 2022 vs 2021 reveals that from smartphones to refrigerators and air conditioners, the premium products category grew up to 9 times faster than the entire segment in 2022.

Nikhil Mathur, Managing Director – India at GfK, said, “Indian consumers are motivated by the value-led approach, in which product innovation, customer experience, and premium features will continue to drive sales for the premium category growth in 2023.”

While smartphone sales saw 35% value growth, for devices costing more than Rs 30,000 registered 94% value growth in 2022 compared to last year. Premium panel television sales (ultra-HD models with screens larger than 55 inches) registered 95% value growth, while the category clocked 11% value growth.

According to gfknewron Consumer Survey 2022, within major domestic appliances, the replacement cycle for Washing Machines and Refrigerators has reduced, with consumers moving towards upgradation in 2022

The value growth for small domestic appliances, such as those used for food preparation, water purifiers, electric water heaters, and air conditioners, on the other hand, was 37% overall, and 54% for the premium segment.

It is important to understand that consumer confidence varies by age, income, and market, with certain groups more optimistic about their future than others. This highlights the need for brands and retailers to personalize communications when targeting different demographics. For instance, millennials may be more open to a value-add strategy that nudges them into more premium categories.

ONDC platform can be a gamer changer for many small businesses in India: Jayesh Ranjan

Khyati, Shireesh, Koshy and Jayesh Ranjan at the opening of the seminar on INDC

Hyderabad, February 22, 2023….A session on How ONDC (Open Network for Digital Commerce) will be a game changer for your business held on Tuesday at FTCCI, Red Hills, Hyderabad.

ONDC is an open network for Digital Commerce and is a Govt of India initiative. It can be the next big revolution in Digital Commerce in India.

It is the first of its kind in the world and there is no parallel to it, said Shireesh Joshi, Chief Business Officer, ONDC.

ONDC is the response to a situation if people are confined to homes, like in the last pandemic times and could not do physical commerce, said Shireesh.

E-retail penetration is only 4.3% in India; well below China (25%), South Korea (26%), and the UK (23%). There is a huge growth potential he observed.

India has 1.2 crore Kirana shops, but just 15000 are e-commerce enabled, which is 0.125%.

We are working towards enabling population-scale inclusion of merchants and buyers. Increasing the Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) of digital transactions. Expanding the coverage of retailers using digital commerce Expanding the share of Indians using eCommerce to buy online Amplifying the geographic coverage of every domain via eCommerce, shared Mr. Shireesh.

Many industry insiders viewed it as Amazon, and Flipkart’s killer when our Prime Minister Mr Modi launched it a year ago. It is like a Unified Payments Interface (UPI) , an instant real-time payment system developed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) which has revolutionized digital transactions and many countries are trying to replicate this model. The next big thing on the making similar to that is ONDC observed speakers while interacting informally.

Open Network for Digital Commerce, is a private non-profit Section 8 company established by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) of the Government of India to develop open e-commerce.

The Seminar was jointly organised by FTCCI, Govt of Telangana, Globallinker, and ONDC.

Addressing the 250-plus gathering Jayesh Ranjana said there are many national examples of the success of ONDC, which include Kancheepuram sarees onboarded. Kerala state is fully supportive of online stores.

Telangana State GlobalLinker started early even before ONDC started. Now 12000 MSMEs are part of Globallinker, Mr. Rajan shared.

Telangana State GlobalLinker is one of the early ONDC-compliant platforms. Any business owner can join the GlobalLinker network, create an online store in under 10 minutes and link their catalog to the ONDC network. This is done in collaboration with the Government of Telangana said Malavika Jaggi, Director, GlobalLinker

GlobalLinker’ is a Business Enablement Platform powering the growth of SMEs. It enables SMEs to ‘Get Digitized’ (E-Biz Card, E-Commerce Enablement); ‘Get Connected’ (Matchmaking) and ‘Get Partner Solutions’ (3rd Party Offers on Preferential Terms), she added.

ONDC platform can be a game changer for many small businesses in India Jayesh highlighted

Nearly 25000 merchandise across India are onboarded on the ONDC platform. The traction is very good. Home-based manufacturers and entrepreneurs can take maximum advantage of the platform. Once the products are onboarded, they may face global competition. So, they must pay attention to quality, labeling, and packaging. Only quality products will survive. So back-end work is also equally important, Mr Jayesh Rajan said.

Giving a welcome address Vatsala Mishra, Officer on Special Duty, Industries Department and Director MSME said India’s share of Global E-Commerce is only 1.5% in the year 2023 and will grow to 2% in the year 2030. India’s E-commerce is one of the fastest-growing markets in the world. Tier 2, and 3 cities continue to dominate India’s e-commerce growth in near future.

Giving Telangana Government initiatives, she said it launched Globallinker in collaboration with Digivation Digital Solutions P Ltd. to build a digital ecosystem for MSME retailers of the State, offering a range of services, either free or highly discounted compared to market standards. An AI-powered platform dedicated to serving MSMEs. It has 12,000+ registrants in Telangana. It has allowed them to network with other existing 4 Lac+ MSMEs across the world. It’s an online store builder, enabling MSMEs to digitize their business. Companies can make their store free of cost, with domain and lifelong cloud hosting. TSGL (Telangana State Global Linker) handholds these clients right from inception to execution, including integrating payment gateway & logistics on the stores informed Vatsala.

Amidst 1st lockdown (May 2020), Telangana State Govt. and GlobalLinker collaborated to launch a portal called KiranaLinker. This enabled local grocery/ kirana store owners to create their online store in under 10 minutes she said

Speaking on the occasion T. Koshy, CEO of ONDC said the unique platform ONDC can shape the future of the global e-commerce space.

ONDC is a unique initiative across the globe, he added. In the future, every merchandise can make its catalog visible with ONDC. He urged merchandise to join it in the early stages.

Giving his closing remarks, Anil Agarwal, President of FTCCI said, it will be a game changer for your business. Online commerce is the mainline commerce of the future. He urged participants to take advantage of first movers and join the mission and make the world discover your business.

Ms. Khyati Naravane, CEO of FTCCI, ICT Committee Chair, members, guests, and government functionaries participated in the seminar

The MoU was signed between the CEF Group and the Governor of Uttar Pradesh (GoUP), Shri Prathamesh Kumar. CEF Group will set up a waste processing plant with an estimated investment of Rs 650 crore in multiple locations, generating employment for approximately 240 people. The plant will address the problem of waste mismanagement and augment bio-fuel production.

Citing the importance of waste processing, Mr. Maninder Singh Nayyar, CEO of CEF Group, said, “Uttar Pradesh is the largest state in the country which requires adequate waste management solutions, and we are capable of doing it. This agreement will prove beneficial for the entire state in various regards. One, it will help the state to process its waste scientifically. Another, it will boost bio-fuel production in the state, making Uttar Pradesh emerge as a leading advocate of the central government’s ‘Green Growth’ vision. Also, it will foster new employment opportunities for the locals. CEF intends to set up municipal solid waste processing plants on one side. Organic waste processing plants with captively grown Napier grass will also be utilized, bringing stable earnings for farmers. The project will be one of the largest ones of its kind in India.” He added, “This is a direct replacement for chemical fertilizers in commercial farming. Therefore, enabling more scope for sustainable and natural/organic farming on a larger scale. We will be able to produce both biofuels and organic manure resulting in a sustainable environment”.

Under the ongoing Invest UP streak, CEF Group has seized the opportunity to invest in the state this year with a proposed project named Bio-fuels and allied products, in which CEF group will convert municipal solid waste, agricultural, industrial waste like press mud from sugar mills and other organic wastes into bio-fuels and allied products. The projects will come in phases, with construction starting by the end of 2023. Different municipalities of Uttar Pradesh will provide the waste and land. At the same time, the overall set-up of the project with offtake arrangements of the Bio-CNG and organic manure or city compost will be processed scientifically in the CEF waste processing plant. Moreover, it will protect the environment in various ways, such as lesser pollution and reduced carbon and GHG emissions.

“Invest UP 2023 is aimed at transforming Uttar Pradesh, supporting growth projects and initiatives for the betterment of people in UP. The CEF Group is doing a commendable job promoting sustainability via biofuel, thereby supporting planet earth. Converting solid waste, agricultural waste, and other organic wastes into biofuels are some profound areas that Mr. Maninder Singh Nayyar and his team have dedicatedly worked on. Our Union Finance Minister, in the 2023-24 budget session, has made a special announcement to focus on the energy transition. Green growth is the future; hence, the budget provides 35,000 Crore to prioritize capital investments toward energy security. Let’s hope for a better future.” Said UP Govt, official spokesperson.

While stepping up the green energy revolution in Uttar Pradesh, the CEF Group is also increasing the scope of organic farming as a bi-product solid digestate is produced in the process of converting wastes into biofuels which can be converted into high-quality organic manure with CEF’s specialized process and technology.
