The Importance of Filing Your Income Tax Returns on Time

Amit Gupta,

By Amit Gupta, Managing Director, SAG Infotech

In India, taxes are a major source of income for the government and a big portion of it comes from income tax. As the name suggests, It is a tax that is levied on the income earned by individuals and companies. Every year not only its necessary to file your ITRs (income tax returns) but also there is a strict deadline before which you need to file your ITR. Everyone thinks filing income tax returns on time is just a legal requirement. But they don’t know it also has various benefits. In this article, we will deep dive into the world of income tax and discuss the importance of filing your income tax returns on time in India.

Avoid Penalties and Interest

Avoiding penalties and interest is one of the main justifications for timely filing income tax returns. A penalty of Rs. 5,000 must be paid in India if your income tax return is not filed by the deadline. If you keep putting off filing, the fine could reach Rs. 10,000. In addition, if you owe any taxes and don’t pay them by the deadline, you’ll have to pay interest on the amount still owed. These fines and interest fees can be avoided by timely filing your income tax returns.

Claim Refunds

Another important benefit of filing income tax returns on time is that you can claim refunds if you are eligible. Such as you can get a refund on opening a new savings or PPF account and also a refund if you paid more tax than you had to. However, These refunds are subject to the condition, in which you filled your returns on time. You can avoid missing out on refunds by filing your income tax returns on time.

Build Your Financial History

One of the most important benefits of filing your income tax return on time is, it helps you to boost your financial history ie. CIBIL or Experian scores. Because your Cibil scores are essential for banks when they approve your loan applications. Also, these are key factors for credit card allocation and other financial products. And there is a simple reasoning behind this, by filing your income tax you demonstrate to lenders that you are a responsible borrower who pays their taxes on time.

Avoid Scrutiny

You can also avoid Income Tax Department audits by submitting your tax returns on time. You are more likely to be chosen by the Income Tax Department for review. if you submit your income tax returns after the deadline. However by submitting your income tax returns on time. you can easily avoid the time-consuming and stressful process of scrutiny.

Conclusion

Filing your income tax returns on time is not just your legal responsibility. but it comes with more benefits than you think. Ofcource by filing your income tax returns on time. you can avoid penalties and interest charges these are some of the obvious benefits. But some other benefits that are hidden in the shadows are you can claim refunds, build your financial history, and avoid scrutiny from the Income Tax Department. Therefore, it is important to make sure that you file your income tax returns on time every year.

Technology is playing a major role in driving the EV momentum – KPMG in India Report

Technology is playing a major role

April 18 2023  Climate change has become a collective global issue in the last 20 years, and the concerns are only increasing. While many sectors contribute to the ongoing climate emergency, the one that stands out the most is carbon emissions due to the transport sector. Over the last couple of years, the Indian government has drafted policies and plans like FAME with the aim to achieve 30% EV sales penetration for cars, 70% for commercial vehicles, 40% for buses, and 80% for two- and three-wheelers by 2030. To achieve this advanced level of EV adoption, it needs to be supported by competitive technological infrastructure. To take a further deep dive, KPMG in India, jointly with CII, has published a report titled ‘Technology at the forefront of Electric Vehicles’.

Commenting on the report, Jeffry Jacob, Partner, Partner, and Lead, Automotive, KPMG in India said “Technology is playing a key role in driving the EV landscape in India. While many of the current innovations are going to become standard offerings in the future, the addition of newer features/ development of new technology is going to be a continuous process. And with India becoming a tech hub for the world, we are at a significant advantage”.

With the advent of EVs, a lot of technological transformation has also come into play. For instance, the engine from traditional ICEs is replaced by a battery, accompanying a Battery Management System (BMS), while transmission has been replaced by a motor and a controller. As technology takes center stage, new suppliers of crucial and new components could enter this domain, leveraging new business opportunities this space has to offer. Next-generation technologies such as advanced chemistry cells are being explored for the development of batteries using alternative raw materials that are abundant in nature, cost-effective, and less impacted due to market volatility.

Key highlights:

For India, growth in EVs is expected to continue for the rest of the decade, with 2W and 3W expected to dominate EV sales in the near future
EV adoption is expected to see an inflection point once all vehicle segments show significant ownership savings over ICE vehicles

Commenting on the findings of the report, Rohan Rao, Partner, Automotive and Lead Electric Mobility, KPMG in India said “It is exciting to see EVs become a reality in India. On the demand side while EVs provide consumers with a cheaper, greener alternative, on the supply side, we are seeing a leveled playing field with start-ups going toe to toe with established incumbents through rapid innovation and speed to market.”

Future of Mobility

The shift to EVs is no longer an uncertainty but only a question of when. Adoption levels are expected to see exponential growth in the future with developing infrastructure, government incentives, and the launch of new EV models. Technology is at the forefront of the EV revolution. The shift from ICE to EV has increased the electronics content from 16 percent to 55 percent in a vehicle with the addition of new features and controls. Many of these technologies are going to become standard offerings in the future and the addition of newer features/ development of new technology is going to be a continual process.

Sports-Related Orthopedic Injuries: Understanding the Risks and Preventative Measures

Dr. Akhilesh Yadav

Dr. Akhilesh Yadav – Associate Director, Orthopedics & Joint Replacement, Max Super Speciality Hospital, Vaishali

Participating in sports is an excellent way to stay active and healthy, but it also comes with the risk of sustaining injuries. Sports-related orthopedic injuries can be severe and can result in significant long-term effects if not adequately managed. In the recent past as well, several known athletes like Jasprit Bumrah, Shreyas Iyer, and others have endured injuries that have resulted in their exclusion from the national team.

Sports-related orthopedic injuries can affect any part of the musculoskeletal system, including bones, muscles, tendons, and ligaments. These injuries are often the result of overuse, improper technique, inadequate conditioning, or accidents during play. The most common sports-related orthopedic injuries include sprains, strains, fractures, and dislocations.

Sprains are injuries to ligaments, which are the connective tissues that connect bones to each other. People get sprains when the joint is forced beyond its normal range of motion, causing the ligament to stretch or tear. Ankle sprains are the most common type of sprain and are frequently seen in sports like basketball and soccer.

Strains are injuries to muscles or tendons, which are the tissues that attach muscles to bones. Strains occur when a muscle or tendon is stretched too far or torn. Hamstring strains are common in sports like track and field, while tennis elbow is a type of strain seen in tennis players.

Fractures occur when a bone is broken, either partially or completely. Fractures can occur due to a sudden impact or as a result of repetitive stress. Stress fractures are common in sports that involve running or jumping, such as track and field and basketball.

Dislocations occur when a bone is forced out of its joint, often as a result of a sudden impact or fall. Shoulder dislocations are common in sports like football and hockey.

Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury is a common injury that occurs in sports, particularly those that involve sudden changes in direction or jumping. The ACL is one of the major ligaments in the knee joint, responsible for stabilizing the knee and preventing excessive forward movement of the tibia (shinbone) relative to the femur (thighbone).

ACL injuries are characterized by sudden pain and swelling in the knee, often accompanied by a “popping” sound at the time of injury. Athletes with ACL injuries typically require surgical reconstruction of the ligament followed by a lengthy period of rehabilitation before returning to their sport. Proper conditioning and strengthening of the muscles surrounding the knee can help prevent ACL injuries.

Preventing sports-related orthopedic injuries involves several key measures. Proper conditioning and warm-up exercises are essential to help prepare the body for physical activity. Adequate strength, flexibility, and cardiovascular fitness are all essential components of a comprehensive conditioning program. Proper technique and form are also crucial, as improper technique can increase the risk of injury.

Using appropriate safety equipment can also help prevent sports-related orthopedic injuries. Helmets, pads, and braces can provide additional protection and support to vulnerable areas of the body. Choosing the right equipment for the sport and ensuring that it fits properly is essential.

Proper rest and recovery are also essential components of injury prevention. Overuse injuries are common in sports that involve repetitive motions, such as running or throwing. Taking time to rest and recover between activities can help prevent these types of injuries.

Whenever a sportsperson endures an injury, it is essential to get prompt and appropriate treatment. Ignoring or attempting to play through an injury can result in additional damage and prolonged recovery time. Treatment for sports-related orthopedic injuries typically involves a combination of rest, ice, compression, and elevation (RICE). In some cases, immobilization or surgery may be necessary.

Rehabilitation is also an essential component of injury treatment. Physical therapy and several exercises can help restore strength, flexibility, and range of motion following an injury. Gradual return to physical activity under the guidance of a healthcare professional can help prevent re-injury and ensure a full recovery.

In conclusion, sports-related orthopedic injuries can have significant long-term effects on an individual’s physical health and well-being. However, many of these injuries can be prevented through proper conditioning, technique, and safety equipment. In the event of an injury, prompt and appropriate treatment and rehabilitation are crucial to ensuring a full recovery. By taking proactive steps to prevent and manage sports-related orthopedic injuries, individuals can enjoy the benefits of sports participation while minimizing the risk of injury.
