Budget 2024 Expectations from Fintech Sector

Gaurav Jalan, CEO & Founder

Mr. Gaurav Jalan, Founder & CEO, mPokket

“In India’s dynamic fintech landscape, 2024 promises a revival of business growth and steadfast support for advanced technologies. As the interim Budget for the fiscal year 2024-25 approaches, scheduled to be presented by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on February 1, 2024, we anticipate that the Interim Budget will align with the industry’s expectation for continued momentum in financial inclusion and innovative lending solutions for MSMEs and the Indian youth.

Whether it was improving business fundamentals, adapting to revised regulatory norms, or braving the funding winter, fintechs have displayed tremendous agility and fortitude in managing these challenges. We are optimistic about the measures that will propel the growth of India’s fintech segment. Our primary hope revolves around a strategic focus on fostering financial inclusion, particularly in Tier 2, 3, and 4 cities, underpinned by the establishment of a robust trust-based lending ecosystem. We also await initiatives that will standardize lending practices and encourage collaboration between banks, notably Public Sector Banks and fintech firms.

The Budget is expected to highlight the importance of expanding digital public infrastructure, such as Account Aggregator and OCEN, to facilitate broader financial inclusion and unlock more data for intelligent lending practices.

Given the pivotal role of fintechs in driving the start-up ecosystem’s growth in the country, we look forward to a supportive fiscal policy approach that enhances the attractiveness of investments in this segment. Moreover, the Budget could create an enabling environment for sustained innovation and the digital delivery of services by the fintech industry, positioning it for the predicted dominance over traditional bank lending by 2030. Finally, we also anticipate a nuanced, supportive approach towards ESOP taxation and fostering talent retention.”

Sustainable Future: Unveiling the prospects for a greener future in India

Mumbai, 29 January 2024: To understand how conscious living in the built environment is reflected in India, Godrej Design Lab, a Godrej & Boyce platform to advance design excellence, published its report ‘Understanding Conscious Living in India: A deep-dive into spaces, materials and the environment’. Created in collaboration with Unbox Cultural Futures, a leading arts and culture research organisation, this report is a curation of cases and conversations with over 25 expert industry professionals including Rahul Mehrotra, Anupama Kundoo, Ayaz Basrai, Krsnaa Mehta, Rooshad Shroff and Sameer Kulavoor discussing cases and concepts to inspire innovative ideas with an aim to bring the Indian perspective on conscious living to the forefront.

Emphasizing the collective effort required for a sustainable future, Nyrika Holkar, Executive Director of Godrej & Boyce, said:  “Given India’s rapid economic growth trajectory, it’s important to focus our efforts on creating built environments with innovations in use of new sustainable materials and processes to create conscious spaces across homes, offices, factories and public infrastructure that enrich lives but simultaneously reduces environmental impact.”

She added: “Godrej Design Lab initiatives like ‘Conscious Collective’ and the ‘Understanding Conscious Living in India’ report are focused on fostering a community of collaboration, across experts and the public to enhance mindful designs. Sustainable business practices have always been a priority for our company, and this is an evolution of that process.”

The 2023 ‘Understanding Conscious Living in India’ report identifies ‘4 Big Shifts’ that have the potential to shape conscious living in India. Each shift focuses on materials, environment, and spaces, offering unique perspectives on the evolving dynamics of conscious living within India’s socio-economic landscape.

1.  ‘Looking Back to Move Forward’:

This approach involves rediscovering age-old traditions to address challenges with fresh insights. It focuses on how India is paving a way by sourcing material locally, creating employment opportunities and slowly taking steps to become a manufacturing hub.

The report carries examples of homegrown firms like Sketch Design Studio and Studio North that have crafted impactful architectural prototypes by harnessing traditional techniques and utilizing local materials, effectively addressing climate challenges.

2. ‘Balancing Act: Consumption & Conservation’:

An evolving comprehension of the intricate relationship between consumption and conservation prompts a reevaluation of collective views on action, responsibility, and accountability. With an alarming climate crisis, it’s important to seek conscious choices, participate in community driven initiatives and demand for policies that encourage green practices thus creating a perfect balance between consumption and conservation.

The report explores conscious consumption 3 levels of influence across policy, community and brands.  It cites the role that policies play in creating a clean energy future of India, however community-driven activism by groups like ‘Warrior Moms’ are driving change at a local level and how brands like Zerocircle are championing sustainable business practices.

3. ‘Spaces Activated’:

The way we perceive cities and spaces as living entities is evolving, spurred by the wake-up call of the pandemic. This shift not only revitalizes medical, cultural, and environmental contexts but also emphasizes the crucial need for resilient urban planning. Post-pandemic, cities are becoming more socially oriented, prioritizing community spaces for social development, nation-building, leisure, and entertainment.

‘Parel Baug’ designed by StudioPOD, in partnership with MVRDV, is a pathbreaking example of using principles of good street design and placemaking to convert encroached and underutilized spaces to be an inclusive, well-being-focused, and sustainable haven for the local community in Mumbai.

4. ‘Search for authenticity’:

Authenticity plays a crucial role in shaping our conscious living practices in the global, connected world that we live in today. This results in shaping traditional preferences towards global norms as we see with the growing popularity of ‘zero-waste’ weddings. There is also a celebration of micro-cultures with niche cultural practices being restored and championed. With the exposure to the digital universe, we have new avenues to explore at a global scale, thus giving us a landscape for experimentation to make conscious sustainable choices.

The report is part of an on-going conversation by Godrej Design Lab to highlight the need for sustainable practices in the built environment. It follows the ‘Conscious Collective’ event that took place in Mumbai in December 2024.

Vadavalli Gram Panchayat, with a Human Development Index well below the state average, faced challenges in various areas. To complement the Gram Panchayat’s efforts, the Rural Rising initiative addressed critical needs such as education, health and hygiene, water, livelihood, and clean energy, areas where communities encountered significant challenges.

Today marked a significant milestone as the initiatives rolled out last year were inaugurated with distinguished guests, including, Honourable Additional Collector; Shri Vijaya Kumar and Smt. Revathi, Block Development Officers from Sultanpet Shri E. Francis Charles, Assistant Educational Officer; Smt. Murugeshwari, DPO, Sulthanpet; Govinda Raj, Panchayat President from Vadavalli; , Regional Head Herbalife, and United Way Bengaluru team.

Under Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE), the initiative rolled out a program called Born Learning Campaign to create a conducive learning and development environment in Vadavalli and Akkanaickenpalayam Anganwadi Centres (AWCs). This involved upgrading AWCs, providing teaching and learning resources, establishing libraries, and enhancing the capacity of Anganwadi Workers and Helpers through ECCE training. Additionally, one Nutrition Garden was developed in an Anganwadi Centre, along with the creation of 10 household-level kitchen gardens. A total of 663 Nutrition kits were distributed to children and their families.

As part of the School Empowerment Initiative, support was provided to Akkanaickenpalayam Govt Primary School and High School. This included setting up solar-powered classrooms, contribution of library books, renovating staff rooms and classrooms, toilets for girls and boys and providing an incinerator for girls, meeting the schools’ specific requirements.

Awareness sessions were conducted as part of the hygiene intervention, and 228 hygiene kits were distributed to students and school staff. The awareness sessions helped students understand the importance of hygiene in their daily routines. The interactive session covered vital practices, such as handwashing before and after meals, maintaining clean and trimmed nails, and regular teeth brushing. During a follow-up community visit, it was discovered that children consistently used the kits, adhering to the instructions provided during the awareness session and educating their parents about hygiene and sanitation.

An Overhead Tank (OHT) was installed in collaboration with the Panchayat to ensure quality drinking water. A 60,000-litre OHT tank was constructed with the installation of pipelines, benefiting 250 households and enhancing the availability and accessibility of drinking water.

Support was provided to Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) under the livelihood and inclusion initiative. Eleven PWDs received livestock, three individuals received mobility vehicles, and a school-going boy received a hearing aid.

In the interest of renewable energy, 50 solar streetlights were installed. These solar streetlights enhanced safety and security for villagers and triggered a ripple effect of economic and social benefits, uplifting the entire community. In one of the many cases, Saranya, a beautician, faced challenges due to inadequate lighting until solar streetlights changed everything. Previously, commuting during early or late hours was challenging, relying on family members for accompaniment. Well-lit streets now allow her to work longer hours without fear, transforming her family’s financial condition. Supporting a family of six, Saranya can now invest in her business, expand services, and hire women from her village, contributing to the economic growth of her community.

A total of 1631 people will be directly benefitted through this initiative.

“Our approach is not just implementing good initiatives; it’s about empowering communities to take ownership, ensuring sustainability far beyond our involvement. The Rural Rising Program exemplifies our vision. In collaboration with our CSR partner, we created a sustainable legacy of positive change in the community by engaging and developing the capacities of local administration and community members, formed strategic partnerships, and meticulously planned for maintenance.”, said Rajesh Krishnan, Chief Executive Officer, United Way of Bengaluru.

Ajay Khanna, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, Herbalife India, said, “Our vision, shared with United Way Bengaluru, has transformed lives across Karnataka, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu for over three years. Today, Vadavalli Gram Panchayat in Coimbatore stands as a testament to that commitment. From upgraded Anganwadis to empowered PWDs, each milestone fuels our confidence. We see families securing livelihoods and children armed with renewed dignity and hope, inspiring us to push forward, building a brighter future, together.”

From Imagination to Impact: CGI’s Unveiling of Compelling Campaigns in the World of Advertising

From Imagination to Impact: CGI's Unveiling of Compelling Campaigns in the World of Advertising

Mr. Sohamm Thakkar, Co-Founder and CEO at ARtmeTech

In the ever-evolving landscape of advertising, one technological marvel has taken center stage and reshaped the way brands communicate with their audiences – CGI, or Computer-Generated Imagery. From conceptualization to execution, CGI has become a driving force behind some of the most compelling and visually striking advertising campaigns.

The Evolution of Advertising

Traditionally, advertising was predominantly about conveying a message and promoting products or services. However, with the advent of CGI, the narrative shifted from mere communication to immersive storytelling. CGI brought forth a new era where brands could create visually stunning and emotionally resonant content that goes beyond the boundaries of conventional advertising.

Captivating Audiences with Cutting-Edge Graphics

CGI’s impact lies in its ability to captivate audiences through cutting-edge graphics and technology. It allows advertisers to craft narratives that not only grab attention but also linger in the minds of viewers. The visual appeal of CGI ads has the power to create a lasting impression, making them a potent tool for brands striving to stand out in a crowded digital space.

Beyond the Film Industry: CGI’s Resurgence in Advertising

While CGI was initially associated with the film industry, its resurgence in advertising has been nothing short of revolutionary. Brands, once hesitant, quickly recognized the potential of CGI to elevate their storytelling capabilities. From automotive to fashion, and even in sectors like food and healthcare, CGI has found applications that transcend industry boundaries.

Building Emotional Connections

In today’s marketing landscape, brands are no longer satisfied with merely showcasing products. The emphasis has shifted towards building emotional connections with consumers. CGI plays a pivotal role in achieving this objective by offering a dynamic and visually engaging medium for brands to connect with their target audience on a deeper level.

Measurable Impact: CGI’s Dominance on Social Media

Recent data underscores the measurable impact of CGI advertising, particularly on social media platforms. Studies reveal that CGI campaigns capture a remarkable 40% more attention compared to traditional advertising. This statistic highlights not only the initial appeal of CGI but also its ability to sustain interest in an era dominated by content overload.
