Rockwell Automation Releases 2023 Sustainability Report Outlining Progress and Outcomes

24th January, 2024: Rockwell Automation, Inc. (NYSE: ROK) today published its 2023 Sustainability Report detailing the company’s sustainability progress and outcomes, and how Rockwell is partnering across the manufacturing industry and communities worldwide to create sustainable impact and change.

In India, Rockwell undertook initiatives including solar light installation projects in schools, environmental projects including sapling distribution and sponsoring robotic and STEM education programs. Most recently the company detailed how it is helping to modernize farming practices in rural India in partnership with ISAP India Foundation.

“We’ve been improving the efficiency of industrial processes for more than 120 years, which includes making the most of scarce resources,” said Rockwell Automation Chairman & CEO Blake Moret. “Today, our technology and expertise help manufacturers in diverse industries address the complex challenge of making high-quality products at scale while minimizing negative impacts on the environment.”

Smart manufacturing technologies play a critical role in driving Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) and sustainability success. Survey results from the company’s 8th annual State of Smart Manufacturing Report indicate the driving factor for manufacturers to pursue sustainability and ESG policies and programs is to improve efficiencies, confirming that sustainability is critical for operational improvement and profitability.

Rockwell Automation’s 2023 progress on its ESG journey

In addition to showcasing how Rockwell supports customers’ sustainability efforts with its innovative, sustainable products and solutions, the report also highlights the company’s ESG initiatives and programs that are making Rockwell more sustainable while at the same time fostering a culture that empowers employees to operate safely, sustainably, and responsibly.

In 2020, Rockwell announced its goal to be carbon neutral by 2030 (Scope 1 and 2 emissions). The report discusses the company’s work toward this goal, and includes information about Rockwell’s Scope 3 emissions baseline, explaining that indirect emissions from its value chain represent 99% of its Scope 3 carbon footprint.

The report highlights new 2023 ESG initiatives, including:

  • UN Global Compact: The company joined the UN Global Compact and the report discusses the eight UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) on which Rockwell believes it can have the greatest impact.
  • The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi): Rockwell joined this partnership between the United Nations Global Compact, Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), World Resources Institute (WRI), and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), which is designed to address corporate climate action.
  • Product Design for Sustainability: The creation of a new team responsible for the integration of sustainability design principles, measurement criteria, and requirements into common product development processes.

Partnering to build sustainable communities

Advanced manufacturing is creating demand for people who have the knowledge and skills to optimize technology, yet workforce and skill shortages continue to impact companies across every industry. The 2023 Sustainability Report underscores the work the company is doing to help create a skilled, engaged workforce that is comfortable using these tools, and the importance of partnering across government, educational institutions, and industry to develop needed workforce skills, now and in the future.

“In a time when workforce and skill shortages impact manufacturers in every industry, enabling people to become comfortable with the newest technology and giving them opportunities to upskill along the way can be the difference between success and failure,” said Moret.

He added, “When a human-centric approach is applied to technology implementation, we see improvement in nearly every aspect of the manufacturing operation—from efficiency to worker safety—delivering results that have a positive impact on both the bottom line and sustainability.”

Plum’s Survey Reveals Cervical Cancer Vaccination Gap: 88% of Indian Working Women Remain Unvaccinated

Bengaluru, 24th January, 2024: Plum, India’s leading insurtech platform offering group health insurance and business insurance solutions to over 3500+ corporations has flagged disconcerting facts on Indian working women’s awareness on cervical cancer and its vaccination. A whopping 88% of working women are not vaccinated against cervical cancer. Of these unvaccinated working women, 63% are oblivious to the existence of vaccines and screenings. With age-standardised incidence and mortality rates of 22 and 12.4 per 100,000 women per year, cervical cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths among women in India (source).

With January observed as Cervical Cancer Awareness Month, Plum surveyed 250+ working women aged between 21 and 47 from India’s metro cities and observed that the high cost ranging from ₹3,700  to ₹10, 000 per dose* of vaccination is a hurdle to cervical cancer prevention  – 26% of unvaccinated working women cited cost as a significant barrier, while an unexpected 60% of those who underwent vaccination reported costs exceeding their expectations. Accessibility too has been a concern with 10% of the unvaccinated women who have the intention of getting vaccinated don’t know where to begin.

*It is crucial to note that the vaccination regimen for cervical cancer prevention requires two-three doses.

Dr. Nupur Gupta, Director-Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Fortis Memorial Research Institute, Gurugram and senior gynaecologist from Plum Telehealth highlighted the critical need for screening and early detection as a top priority, stating, “Prioritised screening and early detection can prevent and manage cervical cancer. Regular pap smears, especially the more sensitive Liquid-Based Cytology (LBC) testing, offer strong detection when paired with Human Papillomavirus (HPV) screening. Making certain lifestyle decisions is also essential for lowering hazards.”

In the conversation, Dr Gupta shared a few guidelines for preventing cervical cancer (perhaps the only cancer that can be prevented through screening and vaccination).

• Routine Screenings: If you are sexually active or in your thirties, make sure to schedule routine (annual)  HPV testing and Pap screenings.

• Vaccination: Even if you are in your thirties, you should think about getting vaccinated against HPV. Vaccination provides effective defence against the virus.

• Understand Your Risk Factors: Recognise the things that could put you at higher risk, such as early menarche and having multiple partners.

• Raise Awareness: Make cervical cancer screenings a priority by urging friends, family and coworkers. A key component of prevention is raising awareness and educating people.

Saurabh Arora, Co-founder at  Plum, expressed, “At Plum, it has been our endeavour to positively impact the health and financial well-being of every human. With a workforce of 39 million women driving business growth, employers bear a crucial responsibility to champion the health of their employees. Acknowledging the significant challenges related to awareness, cost and accessibility, companies can proactively address these issues by organising screening camps and facilitating vaccination drives for cervical cancer awareness, detection and prevention.”

Plum has partnered with Proactive for Her, a women’s health tech company that offers in-clinic and virtual women’s menstrual, sexual and reproductive healthcare across all life stages through expert consultation, diagnostic support and cancer screening services to offer discounted consultation, diagnostics and screening camps to its member corporations.

Achitha Jacob, Founder & CEO, Proactive for Her said, “India has the highest rate of Cervical Cancer in Asia. Cervical Cancer Awareness Month gives us the opportunity to highlight the importance of prevention and screening in the fight against the HPV virus, the leading cause of cervical cancer. We are committed to vaccinating tens of thousands of women against the HPV virus. It is important for insurtech companies to spotlight all areas of women’s health and we are thrilled to see Plum taking such steps.”

Plum has been at the forefront to drive a transformative cultural shift in corporate healthcare practices and as an insurtech player dedicated to making insurance more accessible, efficient, and user-friendly for all. Recently, Plum introduced super-top health insurance plans in group policy settings helping individuals to enhance their health insurance coverage and making it accessible for them with convenience and affordability.

Elevating Cybersecurity with the Power of Adaptive Learning and Statistical Analysis for a Resilient Digital Future

“India’s rapidly growing digital ecosystem has proved to be a boon to its economy and is estimated to contribute over 20% to the country’s GDP by 2026. However, with digital evolution, India has also emerged as the most targeted country in terms of cyber-attacks, accounting for 13.7% of all attacks worldwide. Indian government agencies witnessed a 95% increase in cyberattacks in 2022, as compared to the previous year.

We have recently released a joint Threat report in collaboration with DSCI that delves into the geographic and sectoral impact of cyber threats, shedding light on the top states, cities, and industries targeted throughout the year. From our analysis, it’s evident that no region or sector is immune to the reach of these malicious attacks. This first-of-its-kind India-centric report brings actionable insights based on data from 8.5 million endpoints and 400 million detections. Industries including the Automobile supply chain, Government, and Education sectors have emerged as the most vulnerable, followed by Power and energy, hospitality, healthcare, logistics, and other industries.

Our team of experts at Seqrite Labs, the country’s largest malware analysis lab has observed a notable increase in Trojans and Infectors, with 25% of attacks originating from malicious links. In the mobile sector, where the Android operating system held a dominant 71% market share, there were on average 3 attacks per device per month observed on .5 million devices which were covered in the research. G20-related Hacktivist attacks on public and private websites raised concerns, a trend expected to continue around major events in 2024 with Indian general elections and global events like the Olympics being planned in the year ahead. Advanced threats like AI-powered malware, “living off the land” binary (LoLBins) attacks, and Hactivist-fueled campaigns are on the horizon. Deep Fakes, Vishing, dating app scams, and ransomware will continue to exploit vulnerabilities in the cybersecurity supply chain.

While the misuse of AI’s potential for phishing and spear-phishing breaches exists, its integration into cybersecurity solutions offers immense promise in mitigating the risks posed by such attacks. Adaptive learning allows systems to evolve with threats, continuously refining models for improved accuracy and effectiveness.

With this and more, we stand committed to simplifying cybersecurity for enterprises and government organizations by providing comprehensive & innovative solutions that are powered by state-of-the-art threat intelligence and playbooks backed by world-class service provided by best-in-class security experts.” said, Vishal Shalvi, Chief Executive Officer, Quick Heal Technologies Limited.

“As we navigate the ever-evolving landscape of cybersecurity, it’s crucial to reflect on the lessons learned in 2023 to fortify our defenses in 2024. Our commitment to staying ahead of cyber threats drives us to embrace adaptive learning and statistical analysis as powerful tools in our arsenal. By continuously learning from the evolving threat landscape, we empower ourselves to predict, prevent, and respond to cyber threats with unparalleled precision. In 2024, let us not only anticipate the challenges that lie ahead but also leverage cutting-edge technologies to enhance cybersecurity resilience, ensuring a safer digital future for all.” Raj Sivaraju, President APAC, Arete IR LLP

As we navigate the complexities of an ever-evolving digital landscape, this dynamic duo not only fortifies our defenses but empowers us to proactively stay ahead of emerging threats. By embracing continuous learning and leveraging the insights derived from statistical analysis, we not only safeguard our digital fortresses but also lay the groundwork for a secure and adaptive cybersecurity ecosystem. As we forge ahead.

51 percent of Indian organizations find it easy to understand their privacy obligations: ISACA research

ISACA

Bengaluru, India,24th January 2024: From India’s Personal Data Protection Bill to Brazil’s General Data Protection Law, the past year saw new developments and updates to privacy regulations across the globe. According to ISACA’sPrivacy in Practice 2024 survey report, half (51 percent) of the India-based respondents say their organizations find it easy to understand their privacy obligations, and a majority (62 percent) are very or completely confident in their organization’s privacy team’s ability to ensure data privacy and achieve compliance with new privacy laws and regulations.

More than 1,300 professionals globally, including 71 from India, who work in data privacy roles responded to the survey, weighing in on privacy topics such as staffing, organization structure, policies, budgets and training.

Privacy Challenges
In addition to finding it easy to understand the privacy regulatory landscape, organizations in India also feel that the budget is currently mostly appropriate. More than half of respondents (51 percent) say their privacy budget is appropriately funded and only 23 percent say their budget is somewhat or significantly underfunded. When looking at the year ahead, 42 percent say that they expect their budget will increase (down 20 points from last year), and only 1 percent say it will remain the same (down 8 points from last year). However, a third of respondents (32 percent) expect a decrease in budget, which is higher than last year, when only 6 percent expected a decrease in budget.

The path to forming a privacy program is not always a smooth one, either, with Indian respondents indicating that the top obstacles include:

  • • Lack of competent resources (44 percent)
    • Complex international legal and regulatory landscape (35 percent)
    • Management of risks associated with new technologies (35 percent)
    • Lack of clarity on the mandate, roles, and responsibilities (34 percent)

In seeking those competent resources, technical privacy positions are in highest demand, with 75 percent of Indian respondents indicating there will be increased demand for technical privacy roles in the next year. Legal/compliance roles come a close second with 73 percent feeling that there will be increased demand. However, respondents indicate there are skills gaps among these privacy professionals; they cite experience with different types of technologies and/or applications (58 percent) as the biggest one.

When looking at common privacy failures, respondents in India pinpointed the non-compliance with applicable laws and regulations (44 percent), data breach/leakage (42 percent) and not practicing privacy by design (41 percent) as the main concerns.

“When privacy teams face limited budgets and skills gaps among their workforce, it can be even more difficult to stay on top of ever-evolving and expanding data privacy regulations and even increase the risk of data breaches,” says SafiaKazi, ISACA principal, privacy professional practices. “By understanding where these challenges lie, organizations can take the necessary measures to remedy them and change course to strengthen their privacy teams and programs.”

Taking Action
One of the ways that organizations are mitigating both workforce gaps and privacy failures is through training. A majority of India-based respondents (61 percent) note they are training to allow non-privacy staff to move into privacy roles, while 45 percent have increased reliance on credentials to attest to actual subject matter expertise.

To assess the effectiveness of privacy programs, survey respondents in India note their organizations are most often taking the approach of: –

• Performing a privacy risk assessment (68 percent)
• Performing a privacy impact assessment (PIA) (61 percent)
• Undergoing a privacy audit/assessment (46 percent)
• Performing a privacy self-assessment (41 percent)

Global Insights
With employee training, 86 percentglobally indicate their organization provides privacy awareness training for employees, with 66 percentare providing training to all employees annually, and 52 percent of global respondents are providing privacy awareness training to new hires.Sixtypercent of organizations review and revise privacy awareness training at least annually. Seventy-one percent believe that privacy training has had a strong or some positive impact on privacy awareness in the organization. Interestingly, respondents note that their organizations are most often looking at the number of employees completing training (65 percent) as the main metric used to track effectiveness of privacy training and not a decrease in privacy incidents (56 percent).

Organizations are also taking action to strengthen data privacy by using a variety of privacy controls beyond what may be legally required, with the top three globally being identity and access management (74 percent), encryption (73 percent), and data security (72 percent).

Despite the challenges faced, 63 percent of global organizations say they did not have a material privacy breach in the past 12 months, and 18 percent are not seeing a change in the number of breaches they are experiencing. Respondents are also optimistic about the coming year: less than 1 in 5 (16 percent) say they expect a material privacy breach in the next 12 months.

Value of Privacy by Design
One of the clearest takeaways from the survey results is that globally, organizations that practice privacy by design experience some key advantages:

• They have more employees in privacy roles (median staff size 15 vs. nine among all respondents) and are more likely to say their technical privacy department is appropriately staffed (42 percent vs. 34 percent among all respondents).
• They strongly believe their board of directors prioritizes organization privacy (77 percent vs. 57 percent total).
• They are much less likely to see organizational privacy programs as purely compliance driven (35 percent vs. 44 percent total), and more likely as a combination of compliance, ethics and competitive advantage (39 percent vs. 29 percent total).
• They are much more likely to see their organization’s privacy strategy aligned with organizational objectives (90 percent vs. 74 percent total).

• They use many more privacy controls in total, overall, than are legally required:

o Data minimization and retention controls (54 percent vs. 39 percent among all respondents)
o Data quality and integrity (50 percent vs. 38 percent)
o Cryptographic protection (59 percent vs. 46 percent)

• Feel their privacy budget is appropriately funded (50% vs. 36% total)
Ultimately, organizations globally that always practice privacy by design are also much more likely to be very or completely confident in their organization’s privacy team’s ability to ensure data privacy and achieve compliance with new privacy laws and regulations (71 percent versus 43 percent).

“As privacy regulations world over continue to evolve, it’s promising to see the growing confidence among Indians in overcoming issues. ISACA’s survey clearly shows that organizations today are more adept at understanding their privacy obligations and are also confident in the ability of their teamsto ensure compliance and data privacy,” says R.V. Raghu, ISACA India Ambassador, and Director, Versatilist Consulting India Pvt Ltd. “However, the anticipated shifts when it comes to budgetary expectations show that it is important for companies to strategically enhance their resource allocation, especially with impending financial constraints.”

Recently, ISACA explored other privacy themes in new white papers. Eliminating Deceptive Privacy Practices: Building Trust by Addressing Privacy Dark Pattern explores the problematic nature of dark patterns and strategies that can be used to replace them for consumer-centric alternatives. Applied Data Management for Privacy, Security and Digital Trust examines the connection between privacy and data management and how privacy and security can support digital trust, and educates readers on building and maintaining a data management program that works for their needs.

The Privacy in Practice 2024 survey report is complimentary and can be accessed at www.isaca.org/privacy-in-practice-2024Additional privacy resources can be found at: www.isaca.org/resources/privacy.

The Ayodhya Development Authority recently onboarded ShopClues as its technology partner to manage and develop a Tourism Centric Platform for Ayodhya. ShopClues is also in talks with the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, etc. to take part and promote e-commerce exports from the country.
