IIT Roorkee startup Linearized Amplifier Technologies and Services (Linear-AmpTech) incubated in iHub DivyaSampark, I.I.T Roorkee has secured the top spot in the prestigious Dare to Dream 4.0 Contest hosted by DRDO with their transformative Gunshot Detection and its location estimation system.

Founded in 1847 as the Thomason College of Civil Engineering, IIT Roorkee has grown into a globally recognized institution, maintaining a legacy of academic excellence for 177 years. This technology, created by Linear-AmpTech, is a cutting-edge system that detects and locates gunshots quickly and accurately. This tech can help soldiers stay safer and even help prevent city crimes by spotting gunshots early.

The genesis of this technology can be traced back to the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering at IIT Roorkee. Undergraduate students Parthsarthi Mishra and Akash Jha, guided by Prof. Karun Rawat, began lab experiments focused on gunshot acoustic signatures. Under the mentorship of IIT Roorkee alumni Vivek Sharma, Linear-AmpTech transformed the concept into an advanced prototype with the collaboration of undergraduate students Amit Kumar, Harsh Kumar, and Aniket Vishwakarma.

Linear-AmpTech and IIT Roorkee presented the technology of Gun-shot detection and its location estimation to DRDO officials at the IIT Roorkee campus. The live demonstration highlighted the system’s capabilities, culminating in Linear-AmpTech’s first-prize win in the Open category: Exploring Unthinkable and Unimaginable.

ISACA’s CISA Exam Updated to Reflect Innovations and Evolving Technologies Impacting IT Audit

Bangalore, India, 3rd May 2024—ISACA’s Certified Information Systems Auditor® (CISA®) certification is being updated to reflect the most current industry trends impacting the IT audit profession. The job practice update considers innovations and evolving technologies related to the current role of an IT audit professional. The updated exam will be available on 1 August 2024 and the new CISA exam preparation materials will be available starting 1 May 2024.

The five domains, representing the major areas of focus for IT auditors, are similar to the last exam content outline. However, the updated exam content outline requires testing of risk, security, and controls related to disruptive technologies and emerging IT audit practices.

The breakdown for the five domains will be:

Domain 1: Information System Auditing Process (18 percent)
Domain 2: Governance and Management of IT (18 percent)
Domain 3: Information SystemsAcquisition, Development and Implementation (12 percent)
Domain 4: Information Systems Operations and Business Resilience (26 percent)
Domain 5: Protection of Information Assets (26 percent)

CISA has been the gold standard for IS/IT audit certification for more than 45 years, attesting that IT auditors can meet current and future challenges. More than 207,000 professionals have earned the CISA certification since its inception in 1978. Jalandhar: The School of Computer Application at Lovely Professional University (LPU) organized its 2nd International Conference on Networks, Intelligence, and Computing (ICONIC-2024) at the Shanti Devi Mittal Auditorium. Organized as Bartik 100, the conference marked the 100th birth anniversary of Jean Bartik, who was one of the original six programmers for the ENIAC- the first computer of its kind. She began work at the University of Pennsylvania, first manually and then using ENIAC to do so. Bartik and her colleagues developed and codified many of the initial fundamentals of programming while working.

Held in hybrid mode, the conference provided a common platform for scientists, researchers, academicians, industrialists, and students to assimilate the knowledge. LPU’s Pro-Chancellor Smt. Rashmi Mittal inaugurated the conference by releasing an abstract book. On this occasion, Mrs Mittal was accompanied by LPU’s Vice-Pro Chancellor Prof Dr. LR Gupta, and Austria’s Prof Dr Radu Prodan from the Institute of Information Technology, University of Klagenfurt.

The released book contains briefs about various computer applications that are to help the global society in innumerable ways. Some of the topics relate to predicting diabetes early; smart parking systems; lung infection prediction; malware detection, enhancing cyber security; recognizing human activity in ATMs; reality in breast surgery education; multiple eye diseases; hearing loss; and, many more

Dr Radu addressed the conference as a keynote speaker. While talking with the hundreds of students attending the conference from across India, Dr Radu talked about sustainable computing by illustrating all about new developments in information technology. A PhD in Computer Science from the University of Innsbruck, Dr Rado’s current research interests include parallel and distributed systems, cloud computing, high-performance scientific computing, and software tool optimization.

Prof Dr L R Gupta desired a definite road map for students to make them future-ready. He hinted that the biggest challenge before all is to standardize norms and regulations for generative AI (Artificial Intelligence) modes.

It was also shared that presently we all live in a digital world estimated to host around 4.5 billion Internet users and 10 billion of mobile connections 2.5 billion of data every day. Managing and extracting value from the sheer amount of raw data requires deep software analysis. The talks provided an overview on optimizing system software support for extreme-scale data processing applications. The focus stayed on social media, entertainment and streaming, engaging billions of people expected to grow to 4.41 billion in 2025.
