MIC Electronics Launches Emergency Light Unit for Train Safety

December 6th, Friday : MIC Electronics Limited (MICEL), a pioneer in LED lighting and electronic display systems, has unveiled its Emergency Light Unit (ELU) to address safety challenges in railways during power outages and emergencies. The product is set to undergo pilot testing on Vande Bharat trains and coaches, with final approval anticipated within 15 to 25 days, subject to the successful completion of these trials. Following the pilot phase, MICEL plans a phased rollout based on performance assessments and feedback from railway authorities.

The ELU is designed to cater to various railway systems, including long-distance trains and suburban networks. High-risk areas and routes with dense passenger traffic will be prioritized for deployment, ensuring maximum safety impact. As an innovative tool, the ELU is outfitted with such features such as automatic during power black-out, longer backup to provide adequate lighting during emergencies, LED-based illumination that is more efficient and consumes less energy, Compact and sturdy construction, compatibility with existing railway system; making the ELU an essential component for emergency evacuation, visibility, and continuity of operations.

Currently, ELU has received the Capacity and Caliber Assessment (CCA) approval from the Rail Coach Factory (RCF), and the final approval and certification will be granted within the coming weeks The solution has been designed for all types of railway service including, long-distance and suburban networks but its deployment priorities will be high risk and dense traffic areas and services This innovative product underscores MICEL’s dedication to passenger safety, combined with Indian Railways’ focus on safety enhancement.

The product has been designed taking into consideration the needs of Indian Railways and the RCF has offered information on railway needs and has done the initial testing of the product for compatibility and durability. The RCF would also be central to deploying ELUs in passenger coaches. The product will initially be deployed in certain Vande Bharat train services in the form of pilot services. Depending on the performance and feedback it will be rolled out to all trains and systems.

Additionally, MICEL would also significantly participate in the deployment of the product whereby railway employees will be trained in the use of the product, and the company will develop a support team that will address any problems in the product

93-Year-Old Woman Undergoes Quick TAVI at Fortis Bannerghatta

06 December 2024: Fortis Hospital, Bannerghatta Road successfully treated a 93-Year-Old women suffering from severe calcific aortic stenosis (severe narrowing of the heart’s valve due to calcium buildup) alongwith multiple co-morbidities via a Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) procedure . The minimally invasive procedure, one of the latest advancements in cardiac care, was performed by Dr. Srinivas BV, Senior Consultant – Interventional Cardiology, and was completed in just 30 minutes while the patient remained fully conscious.

Patient Mrs. Anne had been experiencing frequent dizziness, chest discomfort and overall weakness, owing to which she was unable to perform her daily chores. Concerned about her deteriorating condition, she sought medical advice. After a thorough check-up, doctors diagnosed that she had a serious heart condition known as aortic stenosis, where calcium buildup had narrowed the valve that helps blood flow out of her heart. This made it harder for her heart to pump blood efficiently.

Given her advanced age and additional co-morbidities such as rheumatoid arthritis, a prior stroke and melanoma, she needed an intricate line of treatment. Dr Srinivas BV recommended Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI), a minimally invasive procedure, as the safest and best treatment option, considering the high risks associated with traditional open-heart surgery.

Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) is a minimally invasive procedure often recommended for elderly patients or those at high risk for open-heart surgery. It involves inserting a new valve into the heart without removing the old, damaged valve. TAVI is particularly effective for patients with severe aortic stenosis and typically results in faster recovery times compared to traditional heart surgery.

Aster CMI Partners with Arunachal Pradesh for Affordable Liver Transplants

December 6, 2024: Aster CMI Hospital has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Arunachal Pradesh to provide life-saving liver transplantation services at an affordable cost. This initiative is set to benefit patients with end-stage liver disease, particularly children suffering from congenital liver conditions like biliary atresia or genetic defects.

Liver transplantation is critical for survival in such cases, offering a 95% success rate, especially in children when a living donor from the family is available. However, high costs ranging between INR.20-25 lakhs often deter families from seeking this treatment.

Aster CMI Hospital, in collaboration with Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives and crowdfunding platforms, has developed the largest affordable pediatric liver transplant program in the country. Samsung & IIIT-Bangalore Launch High School Chip Design Program

December 6, 2024: Samsung Semiconductor India Research (SSIR), in collaboration with IIIT-Bangalore and VLSI System Design has launched the “Chip Design for High School” programme. An innovative CSR initiative, it aims to equip young minds with essential skills in semiconductor design, paving the way for India’s technological leadership in the global semiconductor ecosystem.

The programme aims to build a talented workforce as India prepares for highly futuristic semiconductor innovations. It is deftly crafted to target children from 6-12th standard. The initiative aims to bridge the gap between education and industry, preparing the next generation to lead in this rapidly growing sector.

“This is the right opportunity to enable our country to leap towards greater innovations in the semiconductor space. This programme is launched to make an impact on the talented youth of our country and make them future-ready through mentorship and hands-on experience. Our aim is to inspire and empower them as they prepare to lead the country as future leaders,” said Balajee Sowrirajan, EVP and MD, Samsung Semiconductor India Research.

The curriculum is designed to introduce students to semiconductor design fundamentals, AI integration, and hands-on learning, creating a pathway for them to pursue careers in this field. Spanning over eight weeks, students will explore fundamental physics, logic gates, and hands-on breadboard circuit building. With practical labs and capstone projects, this programme equips students with essential chip design skills, preparing them for careers in India’s thriving semiconductor industry.
