TOW

6th December 2024: The Organic World (TOW), India’s No.1 Responsible Retailer and part of the Bengaluru-based Nimida Group, is targeting the addition of 30 new stores in Hyderabad, by the end of 2025. In September this year, TOW marked its foray out of Karnataka with the launch of its first store in Hyderabad in Pragathi Nagar. This targeted expansion marks a pivotal step in TOW’s strategic growth as it aims to increase its footprint across South India.

This move underscores TOW’s commitment to making worry-free, wholesome, curated groceries accessible to a wider audience and supporting its ambitious pan-India target of INR 100 crore in revenue by the end of FY 2025. Hyderabad has been a key focus area for the brand, given the growing preference for organic and chemical-free products among consumers in the city.

TOW’s presence in the city will be marked by its ongoing investment in new store setups and comprehensive marketing efforts, alongside a 2-hour delivery service to cater to the growing demand for convenience and quick commerce. Currently, TOW has three stores in Hyderabad – in Pragathi Nagar, Kompally, and Kokapet. The expansion plan comes on the back of an overwhelming response that the brand received from consumers, across their stores and online channels.

Our Hyderabad expansion is just the beginning of our journey to provide chemical-free, worry-free living to more people across India,” said Gaurav Manchanda, Founder, Nimida Group, the parent company of The Organic World. “We have had a great response from Hyderabad with our initial few stores. We see Hyderabad as a market that has consistently focused on building an ecosystem for chemical-free living and consumers here are far more informed and responsible in their decisions. Our aim is to empower these consumers with access to healthier and safer choices – our range of worry-free, wholesome, curated groceries – that can benefit both their well-being and the environment,” adds Manchanda

The expansion in Hyderabad is part of TOW’s broader plans to strengthen its presence in major urban centres and tier 2 and tier 3 cities across India, including Bangalore, Mysore, Chennai and Coimbatore. The expansion will include a mix of company-owned (COCO) and franchise-operated (FOFO) stores strategically located in key catchment areas. TOW intends to establish itself as a household name synonymous with worry-free, wholesome, curated groceries.

Since its inception in 2017, TOW has been dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of choosing products free of harmful chemicals. The brand’s curated range includes organic-certified, pesticide-free fruits and vegetables, chemical-free staples, hormone- and antibiotic-free dairy, personal care products free from parabens and sulfates, toxin-free homecare, as well as nutritious snacks and wellness items. Each product is carefully sourced and vetted, to meet higher than established industry standards, supporting the community’s health and environmental sustainability.

With the launch of its Hyderabad stores, The Organic World invites local residents to discover a new shopping experience dedicated to holistic living and healthier choices. So we started thinking about how great food makes us feel. What it makes us do. What it opens our eyes to. And finally: what great food makes us turn a blind eye to.

Adidas Launches ‘Under the Tongue’, Story of Iconic Football Boot

adidas Predator Documentary Poster Size A3

6th December – In the 30th year of football’s most loved franchise, adidas announces the release of ‘Under The Tongue’ – a feature-length documentary exploring the seismic impact the boot franchise has had on the beautiful game, on and off the pitch. Officially premiering on December 5th, today sees the release of the official trailer.

Produced in collaboration with SoccerBible, the hour-long documentary features the era-defining footballers that made Predator so iconic in its early years – including David Beckham, Zinedine Zidane, and Eniola Aluko – as well as current stars such as Jude Bellingham, Alessia Russo, Aitana Bonmatí and Trent Alexander-Arnold, who reflect on early memories and what it means to be part of the Predator family.

‘Under The Tongue’ examines how a unique blend of industry-leading innovation, culture-defining design, unrivalled star power and timing all combined to create a boot that would fundamentally change the trajectory of the football boot industry and have a transformative impact on adidas as a business.

Transporting viewers back to the very origins of Predator, Craig Johnston – the man behind the initial idea of using rubber to create the now iconic Predator teeth on the boot’s upper – recounts the journey from his initial brainwave while coaching children’s football in Australia, through to finally seeing the boots on the feet of the world’s best players in 1994, before exploring the silhouette’s undeniable impact in the following 30 years.

The documentary also sees senior adidas executives, design team members and notable fans – including singer-songwriter and football fanatic Louis Tomlinson – recall their own experiences of Predator’s emergence.

Nick Craggs, adidas Global Football General Manager said: “Predator changed the game. We know what it means to us all at adidas but as we come to the end of its 30th anniversary we felt it was fitting to hear from those that played such a crucial role in cementing its place in football culture. It has helped push the boundaries of innovation on the field of play and inspire millions off it – we now take it into the future and hopefully another 30 years of iconic moments with the world’s best players.”

Pete Martin, Creative Director at SoccerBible said: “The Predator is a boot with such a profound legacy that it was a real honor to have crafted ‘Under The Tongue’ alongside Keane Pearce Shaw. A boot with such personality too, not only does it mean so much to the culture of the game but it has been an unrivaled yet consistent giver of glory. There are few products on the planet that can, have or ever will, evoke such memories and feeling than that of the Predator. It’s almost immortal. That’s what we have tried to capture with this film – that powerful infatuation – a charming icon with bite, flair and beauty.”

IIMB Scholars Win ABDC Award for Caste Inequality Study

Prof. Prateek Raj

6 December, 2024, Bengaluru: A specialized research program on systemic caste-based inequalities in organizations and societies comprising of an international team of scholars that includes IIMB Strategy area faculty Prof. Prateek Raj, won the 2024 Australian Business Deans Council Network Award for Established, Scholarly Research.

The research program, comprising 20+ scholars across Australia, the UK, and India, has set a benchmark by integrating ethical considerations of caste into management discourse.

The program deployed three distinct approaches—theory development, empirical testing, and community building—and leveraged its analysis of organizational human capital data to design targeted interventions that address pressing social challenges. With community-building, an original impetus of the initiative has also been to advance and enrich comprehensive, interdisciplinary, empirical areas of enquiry. In addition, it has also supported the development of early-career, female, and underrepresented academics around the world.

Having influenced both scholarship and policy, the findings have led to policy adoption by the Melbourne City Council and the Australian Human Rights Commission. Outcomes also include 16 articles published in top-tier journals, media pieces, and presentations to community stakeholders.

Among these papers is a PLOS One paper, co-authored by Prof. Prateek Raj, Prof. Hari Bapuji, University of Melbourne, and Thomas Roulet, University of Cambridge, titled, ‘It’s not who you know, but who you are: Explaining income gaps of stigmatized-caste business owners in India’. The study, which examines the income gap faced by Dalit business owners, was hailed as a “significant contribution to the discourse on economic inequality” this year by The Hindu.

Prof. Raj, who founded the Inclusive Markets Lab at IIMB, is also the Co-founder of ‘Action to Improve Representation’, an initiative that aims to improve representation and open doors for underrepresented South Asian scholars in management academia.

Almonds: A Heart-Healthy Addition to Your Diet

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) remains a leading cause of death in Australia, with diet-related factors such as high blood pressure, elevated body mass index, and high cholesterol levels significantly contributing to its prevalence. Emerging research highlights almonds as a nutritional powerhouse that can play a vital role in promoting heart health.
Almonds and Heart Health
With over 25 years of scientific research, almonds are celebrated for their heart-protective benefits. A systematic review in 2016 demonstrated that diets enriched with almonds significantly reduced total cholesterol, LDL (“bad”) cholesterol, and triglycerides, without affecting HDL (“good”) cholesterol levels. Australian almonds contain healthy fats, known as monounsaturated fats which are good for the heart. These monounsaturated fats help to lower ‘bad’ cholesterol and total cholesterol, reducing the risk of heart disease. But it’s not just the good fats, it’s the unique nutrient matrix that Australian almonds contain that supports heart health, including plant protein, fibre, calcium, vitamin E, phytosterols, polyphenols and many other vitamins and minerals.
Why Almonds? Almonds stand out for their unique nutrient matrix, which combines:
● Healthy Fats: Low in saturated fat and high in mono- and polyunsaturated fats.
● Fibre & Phytosterols: Contributing to reduced cholesterol reabsorption and increased excretion.
● Antioxidants: Helping to combat oxidative stress linked to cardiovascular damage.
● L-arginine: Supporting endothelial function by improving nitric oxide bioavailability.
Almonds in Everyday Diets
The Australian Dietary Guidelines recommend consuming 30 grams of nuts, including almonds, daily. Incorporating almonds as a portable and convenient snack, or as part of recipes inspired by the Mediterranean diet, has shown promise in reducing CVD risk by up to 30%.
What Does the Research Say?
Reducing Oxidative Stress: Regular almond consumption is associated with reduced oxidative stress—a condition contributing to the onset of diseases like diabetes and CVD.Improving Endothelial Function:Studies indicate that nuts, rich in L-arginine, can enhance blood vessel function, reducing risks linked to atherosclerosis. Mediterranean Diet Benefits: The landmark PREDIMED study demonstrated that older adults on a Mediterranean diet supplemented with nuts experienced a 30% reduction in CVD incidence.

Redcliffe Labs Reveals Arthritis Affects 1 in 5 Indians, Not Just the Elderly

5th December, 2024: Redcliffe Labs, a purpose-driven pan-India omnichannel diagnostics service provider, has conducted a study that reveals arthritis is no longer limited to older adults. It affects individuals of all age groups and genders. Conducted over three years with 2 million tests, it revealed that approximately 1 in 5 people are at risk of developing arthritis.

Arthritis symptoms often worsen during the winter season. Colder temperatures can increase joint stiffness and inflammation, making timely intervention even more critical. Individuals with arthritis are advised to adopt preventive measures such as regular physical activity and joint care. With India witnessing a remarkable rise in preventive healthcare awareness, the number of individuals seeking regular health checkups increasing by over threefold from 2022 to 2024. This growing focus on early detection is a critical step toward better health outcomes for millions. With a focus on increasing awareness about the health issue, Redcliffe Labs’ study highlights the gender-neutral nature of arthritis.

The study found abnormal test results in 18% of men and 10% of women aged 26 to 40. It indicates that arthritis is not exclusive to women; instead, the onset of arthritis is higher in men at a younger age, whereas the abnormalities are higher in women with increasing age. Both men and women should be equally cautious and proactive about their health, particularly during colder months.

Dr. Geetanjali Gupta, Director of Technical Operations and Quality Assurance at Redcliffe Labs, stated, “We are observing a shift in the demographics affected by arthritis. With 1 in 5 people at risk of developing arthritis, especially in the younger age group, early diagnosis becomes crucial in preserving mobility and quality of life. Identifying the condition in its early stages allows for proactive treatment, lifestyle adjustments, and long-term management that can significantly slow its progression and reduce its impact. It is crucial to raise awareness and encourage preventive measures to address this growing health concern.”

Furthermore, the study highlights that women, especially as they age, face a higher risk of developing arthritis. The risk increases from 10% in the age group above 25 to 33% in the age group above 70. However, the risk of developing arthritis remains relatively consistent for men of all ages.

The findings emphasize the importance of early diagnosis, particularly for younger adults, to enhance the quality of life.

Aditya Kandoi, CEO and founder of Redcliffe Labs, also commented on the findings, stating, “The growing awareness of preventive health checkups is encouraging, but there is still much to be done in combatting chronic autoimmune conditions like arthritis. At Redcliffe Labs, we are dedicated to not only providing affordable and accessible diagnostics but also promoting a cultural shift towards proactive health management. Prevention is the future of healthcare, and we are committed to ensuring that more people can take control of their health before it’s too late.”

As arthritis cases increase and more people become aware of the importance of regular checkups, Redcliffe Labs continues to emphasize the significance of preventive care in addressing the country’s growing health challenges.

Fortis Noida Performs High-Risk Kidney Surgery on 59-Year-Old

Image_Patient with Dr Piyush Varshney – Director, Urology & Kidney Transplant, Fortis Hospital, Noida

5 December 2024: Doctors at Fortis Hospital Noida have successfully performed a complex and high-risk surgery to remove a renal tumour in a 59-year-old woman suffering from Multiple vascular anomalies – a congenital condition where a person has multiple abnormal blood vessel supplying the kidneys. It is a rare condition and occurs in 1 in 25,000 cases.

In normal cases, a kidney has one artery, one vein and one ureter, but in this particular case, the patient was born with 4 renal arteries and 2 ureters. Extracting the tumour from the lower part of her left kidney by clamping multiple veins and arteries was a difficult task. However, the team of doctors led by Dr Piyush Varshney – Director, Urology & Kidney Transplant, Fortis Hospital, Noida conducted the high-risk procedure with the help of Robotic Partial Nephrectomy in mere 90 minutes and the patient was discharged in a stable condition.

The patient was admitted to Fortis Noida with severe pain on the left side of her body, extending from the bottom of the rib cage to the hips. An ultrasound was done, which revealed a tumour on the lower part of her left kidney. Additionally, a CT Urography was also conducted, which revealed multiple abnormal blood vessel. Due to this condition, it was difficult to dissect the blood vessels, tie them separately and cut the tumor, without blood loss. To address the complexity of the case, the team opted for a robot-assisted partial nephrectomy, which provided a 10 times magnified view of the blood vessels and allowed for meticulous dissection and tumour removal.

Giving details of the case, Dr Piyush Varshney – Director, Urology & Kidney Transplant, Fortis Hospital, Noida said, “The surgery was challenging due to the complexity of identifying all the major vessels supplying blood to the kidney, dissecting them without causing injury, and clamping each and every artery and veins separately to remove the kidney tumour without blood loss. However, with the help of Robot-assisted partial nephrectomy, we could successfully remove the tumour without damaging any surrounding tissues or blood vessels. If the tumour was not removed on time, it could have ruptured any time leading to severe bleeding. The problem with such a tumour is that they are composed of fat and blood vessels and has no protective covering. Therefore, a small injury can lead to rupture and the patient may bleed profusely, leading to sudden fall of blood pressure.”

Mohit Singh, Zonal Director, Fortis Hospital, Noida said, “It was a challenging case and, in such cases, it is very important to consult a multi-specialty hospital which is well equipped with the best medical facilities. We have a comprehensive robot-aided surgical program at Fortis Noida, with the specialized team of doctors.”
