8th January 2024: Kolkata, The 25th CABLE TV SHOW 2024 Kolkata – one of the largest trade shows on digital cable television, broadband, and OTT in India and the Saarc region – will celebrate its silver jubilee year Mega Exhibition from 9th to 11 January 2024 at the Biswa Bangla Mela Prangan (Milan Mela), Kolkata. The Indian broadcast and cable TV market has been valued at USD 13.61 billion in 2023 and is projected to register a 7.85 per cent annual growth rate till 2029.

“This year the Cable TV Show 2024 would be the biggest such show in its history in Kolkata having successfully completed 25 years since 1997 when it started at the Ice Skating ring in Kolkata with a few stalls and participants. The three-day B2B mega show, expected to draw over 50,000 people from across the country and Bangladesh, would have 92 stalls, 85 pavilions and eighty plus participants at the sprawling Milon Mela Prangan in Kolkata,” said Mr Pawan Jajodia, Chairman Exhibition, CTMA.

The three-day B2B mega event, open free to the public, is organized by Kolkata-based Cable TV Equipments Traders & Manufacturers Association (CTMA) and draws all the big multi-system operators (MSOs) and brands associated with the cable television sector in the country. The latest technologies, products, solutions and services would be showcased during the three days.

“CTMA has been the voice of the cable television sector in the eastern region for the past 30 years. With the Government working towards finalizing the draft Broadcasting Services (Regulation) Bill, 2023, to replace the three-decade-old Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act of 1995, CTMA would continue to articulate the voice and demands of the cable television network in India,” said Mr K K Binani, Secretary, CTMA.

More than 10,000 cable operators, MSOs and representatives, traders, manufacturers, channel partners, distributors, broadcasters and Multi-System Operators (MSOs) from across India and overseas are expected to visit the CABLE TV SHOW 2024.

“The Cable TV Show, over the years, has kept pace in showcasing the latest technological developments and changes in the cable television sector to the cable operators in the eastern region and has become the largest show of its kind in the Saarc region,” said Mr Rajesh Doshi, President, CTMA.

“Despite challenges from competing technologies, the CATV sector continues its growth to cover new rural areas providing internet services besides entertainment and educational content. CATV networks have overcome infrastructural challenges to expand into untapped rural areas and continue to expand its footprint as a crucial service provider in India,” said Mr Rajendra Prasad Agarwal, Vice President, CTMA.

Currently, there are more than 1500 MSOs in India. The cable television (CATV) sector in West Bengal is estimated to cover nearly 10 million cable homes providing television software and internet services across urban and rural areas.

2023 Language Assessments India: Data & Highlights by Duolingo English Test

2023 was another busy year for the Duolingo English Test, as it continued to harness the latest tech to deliver the most modern, convenient testing experience to people around the world!

Year after year, the Duolingo English Test is witnessing more people taking it in more places, suggesting continued demand for convenient, reliable, and secure English testing that people can actually afford. Last year test takers certified their English in over 225 countries and regions around the world. 2023 was the first year of full reopening in China, where the DET served test takers in over 950 cities and counties!

But for the second year in a row, India saw the highest volume of test takers, most of whom plan to pursue graduate degrees, with business, computer science and math, and engineering among the most popular subjects. In 2023, students in India applied to programs in over 83 countries, up 9% from last year.

Demand is high for international study, and test takers have plenty of options—the DET is now accepted by more than 4,900 academic programs, including the top 25 highest-enrolling universities for international students in the US!

Last year the team of assessment scientists and engineers published groundbreaking work on everything from score concordance to ensuring fairness of human and AI-generated test items to evaluating complex sources of measurement bias, to name a few!

At Duolingo, making sure the products are delightful is a priority, But it’s about more than a delightful experience — by using AI to optimize the test for access, the DET is disrupting a decades old testing system that is inaccessible for millions of people.

As it leads the way in AI-driven test development, the DET is also helping to develop industry best practices for working in this rapidly-developing area. In 2023, it used AI in countless ways to improve the test taker experience, including making the free practice test available on mobile, and fine tuning its scoring algorithm to more accurately predict scores. At the same time, the DET published the first Responsible AI standards for Assessment, with the hope that it will serve as best practices for ensuring accountability, transparency, fairness, privacy, and security in testing.

The DET stayed true to its mission
In line with the commitment to improving access to quality education for all, the DET proudly endorsed the UNHCR’s 15by30 pledge at their Global Refugee Forum in December. This ambitious goal seeks to increase refugee enrollment in higher education to 15% by 2030—currently it stands at only 7%. This commitment comes at a time when only 7% of refugees worldwide are able to access higher education.

To help realize this goal, the DET partnered with the UNHCR to launch the Duolingo University Access Program, which aims to create improved pathways to higher education for refugee students by offering one-on-one guidance and assistance with the university and financial aid application processes, as well as immigration and visa processes. It recently selected a second cohort of refugee students for this program, who have already begun the process of exploring their best-fit university pathways for Fall 2024 enrollment!

The DET also partnered with Talent Beyond Boundaries (TBB), a non-profit organization that helps refugees find jobs and immigrate to other countries. It aims to help place 15,000 doctors, engineers, and other skilled refugees over the next five years, and the DET has committed to providing free Duolingo English Tests for every one of them.

Suzlon secures a new 225 MW order for their 3 MW series from Everrenew Energy Private Limited

8th January 2024, Bengaluru: Suzlon Group, India’s largest renewable energy solutions provider, today announced a new order win for the development of a 225 MW wind power project for Everrenew Energy Private Limited. Suzlon will install 75 wind turbine generators (WTGs) with a Hybrid Lattice Tubular (HLT) tower and a rated capacity of 3 MW each at the client’s sites at Vengaimandalam, Trichy district and Ottapidaram, Tuticorin district in Tamil Nadu.

This order is for the company’s larger rated 3 MW, S144-140m turbines from the 3 – 3.15 MW product series. As part of the agreement, Suzlon will supply the wind turbines (equipment supply) and supervise the project, including commissioning. Suzlon will also undertake comprehensive operations and maintenance services post-commissioning.

Andhra Pradesh to play a significant role in Magniflex India’s Expansion Plan
