Regulating the Game: India’s Journey Towards Safer Online Gaming

India’s online gaming sector is booming. What started as light entertainment has now become part of millions’ daily routines. But with scale comes responsibility. And the question the industry is now asking itself is: how do we grow while also protecting the player?

From thoughtful product design to fairness frameworks, the online gaming space – particularly in skill-based games – is shifting towards a more mindful, responsible future. Platforms are integrating fairness tools like RNG certification and anti-bot measures to ensure trust and transparency. Gaming platforms such as Zupee, exemplify this shift by offering short, skill-based games that promote cognitive skills and social interaction.

  • Time-Limited Play That Respects a Player’s Life

One of the smartest interventions in gaming today is also one of the simplest: time limits. Platforms are intentionally designing games that end in under 10 minutes – just enough for a quick burst of fun, without the risk of long hours. This matters more than ever in a world where screen time is easy to lose track of.

Games like time-bound Ludo or card-based strategy games allow users to play at their convenience – during a break, while commuting, or winding down – without compromising their day. It’s a quiet but important shift that helps players stay in control.

  • Designing for Trust: Fair Play Isn’t a Feature, It’s the Foundation

In real money gaming, fairness isn’t a luxury – it’s the baseline. Today’s top platforms are building that trust through tools like RNG (random number generation) for unbiased outcomes, third-party audits, and blockchain-led verification systems.

Zupee, for example, has doubled down on transparency with both RNG certification and robust anti-bot protections – ensuring players know they’re always up against real people and fair odds. When users feel confident in the process, they’re more likely to play with a clear, healthy mindset.

  • Games That Ask You to Think, Not Just Tap

There’s a common misconception that mobile gaming is mindless. In reality, skill-based games often require quick thinking, risk assessment, and emotional control. Take Ludo – not the version from your childhood but its competitive, timed counterpart. You’re weighing probability, reading the opponent, and adjusting strategy on the fly.

This kind of play quietly builds cognitive skills. Players aren’t just reacting – they’re planning, learning, and growing. For many, that’s the real reward.

  • Social Play, Real Skills

The best games don’t just entertain – they teach you how to lose, how to wait your turn, and how to stay calm when you’re one move away from winning. Multiplayer formats create an unexpected space for sportsmanship. You learn how to compete without taking it personally, and how to reconnect with others through a shared childhood game – just with a modern twist.

It’s part nostalgia, part life lesson. And in an age where digital spaces often feel isolating, these small but meaningful interactions matter.

  • Regulation and Responsibility Are Now Part of the Game Plan

It’s no longer enough to be popular. Platforms are now being held to higher standards by both users and regulators. We’re seeing the rise of self-regulatory frameworks, increased transparency around taxation, and serious conversations about how to differentiate games of skill from games of chance.

Many operators, including those in the casual and board game segment, have embraced this shift – not just for compliance but as a long-term investment in industry credibility. That includes certifications from recognized bodies, regular audits, and an active push toward safer, more inclusive gaming environments.

  • The Bottom Line

Gaming isn’t just about play anymore – it’s about responsibility. As the industry grows, the leaders won’t be the ones chasing downloads. They’ll be the ones designing for trust, mental well-being, and genuine connection. Responsible gaming isn’t a checkbox. It’s the future.

World Environment Day: The Critical Role of Technology and Talent in Driving Sustainability

As the world commemorates World Environment Day, the urgency to balance innovation with ecological responsibility has never been greater. In India, this shift is not only reshaping the way we build and consume technology but also redefining the workforce powering the change. From digital-first innovations that reduce environmental strain to the green energy sector driving a new employment narrative, sustainability is becoming a core tenet of both business and talent strategies. Leaders across sectors are recognizing that the road to a sustainable future lies in embedding eco-conscious thinking into every system, process, and skillset.

Darshil Shah, Founder and Director, TreadBinary, “On World Environment Day, we’re reminded that sustainability isn’t a separate goal—it must be embedded into every system we create. Technology may shape our future, but it’s our respect for the environment that will determine whether that future is one we can sustain. When applied thoughtfully, technology can reduce waste, optimize resources, and reimagine processes once dependent on overuse. From minimizing material excess in manufacturing to replacing paper-heavy workflows with digital systems, the path to a greener tomorrow lies in building solutions that are not just smart but deeply responsible.”

Kartik Narayan, CEO-Staffing, TeamLease Services, “The renewable energy that is helping to reduce India’s reliance on its fossil fuel power plants is not changing just the country’s energy landscape, it is also creating a transformation to the country’s workforce. At TeamLease, we have witnessed a 25% + CAGR in demand for green energy roles between FY24 to FY25. However, a very high attrition of over 30% and a majority of the talent pool in the 26-36 years segment, the industry is grappling with a twin problem of growth and skilling needs. If we are to keep pace with the energy transition, we must match our action with an equally ambitious talent transition.”

The message this World Environment Day is clear: sustainability must evolve from a conversation into a commitment—woven into our technologies, our workforces, and our collective ambitions.

Forests by Heartfulness Commits to 30 Million Trees by 2030

Hyderabad, 5 June 2025 – On the occasion of World Environment DayForests by Heartfulness (FBH), a flagship initiative of Heartfulness Institute, has reaffirmed its commitment to large-scale, sustainable afforestation with an ambitious goal: raising 30 million trees by 2030. Backed by scientific rigor, community engagement, and spiritual sensitivity, the initiative is making measurable impact across India’s degraded landscapes.
As part of this project, 3.5 lakh trees will be planted to develop 650 hectares of forest land over the course of one year, each tree being planted to revere one’s mother, who is the first Guru. The first tree to be planted by Hon’ble Dy CM will be in the name of respected Baa, Smt Shantaben, mother of Rev Daaji.
India has lost 2.19 million hectares of tree cover since 2000 – a concerning 5.6% decline – triggering rising concerns around climate change, habitat loss, and soil degradation. In response, FBH has pioneered a regenerative forest model that goes beyond conventional plantation drives. This model not only restores biodiversity and degraded soil but also empowers rural communities and reconnects people to nature through meditation and spiritual ecology.
Since its inception, Forests by Heartfulness has planted over 3 million trees across 10,000 acres of degraded lands in 12 states, conserving more than 80 endangered species with an impressive 90% survival rate. It operates 20 native nurseries housing 6 million saplings across 330 endemic species, making it one of India’s most diverse and robust plantation efforts.
“Daaji has instilled in us the vision to treat trees as sentient beings. With his inspiration and guidance, we are intertwining ancient wisdom and modern science to plant 30 million trees by 2030. Even children are learning to nurture and protect forests. Together, we’re building green futures one forest at a time,” said Dr. V. Ramakantha, Retired IFS and Chairman of Forests by Heartfulness.
Key Highlights of Forests by Heartfulness:
  • 1200+ mature trees relocated with 80% success rate
  • 35 lakes restored or created, enabling 77 crore litres of water capacity
  • 22 afforestation projects in 12 states on over 75,000 acres of degraded lands
  • Use of biochar, check dams, phytosociological surveys, and activated compost to revive ecosystems
  • Training programs in agroforestry, watershed management, and native nursery techniques for local communities
Unlike other popular methods, FBH’s approach follows a natural forest succession that avoids topsoil replacement and enriches it using organic compost, neem cake, and microbial activators. very plantation site is selected through rigorous ecological surveys assessing soil composition, native vegetation, and hydrology to ensure long-term resilience and compatibility. This method fosters complex, multi-strata forest ecosystems involving trees, shrubs, herbs, creepers, and grasses, thereby supporting higher biodiversity and faunal integration.
Across India, Forests by Heartfulness is already bringing degraded land back to life. In Madhya Pradesh, 2,000 acres of scrub forest in Shivgarh, Ratlam are being revived into native forests. In Ratlam, a 105-acre city forest acts as an oxygen bank for local population. A similar model is being scaled at many places in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Delhi NCR alongside the creation of water bodies, soil conservation structures, and sustainable livelihood through native fodder crops.
Last year Heartfulness afforestation project named ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ aligned with with the vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi. The launch took place on the auspicious occasion of Guru Purnima in Maihar district of Madhya Pradesh. It is a unique initiative combining environmental responsibility with a heartfelt tribute to mothers.
In an effort to prevent desertification in central India, the Aravalli afforestation project is ongoing in full swing at the Aravalli Hills. For this, Taranga Hills in Mehsana District, Gujrat, were selected due to extreme aridity caused by scant rainfall (~400mm annually), high summer temperatures reaching 42°C, and vegetation loss from soil moisture depletion. The project is designed to transform this dry region into a sustainable green zone through infrastructure, strategic interventions, and water conservation. Economically viable, it includes the planting of 150,000 sandalwood trees along with a diverse range of native species, culminating in 625,000 saplings to boost biodiversity. The afforestation drive is structured in two phases: Phase I covers 50 hectares and Phase II 350 hectares. The peak elevation is 486 meters above sea level. The project includes a massive water conservation capacity of 6 crore litres supported by 715 rain guns—the world’s largest deployment in any afforestation initiative. These rain guns simulate rainfall, helping to convert arid land into a self-sustaining ecosystem. The initiative is expected to create over 10,000 jobs nationwide, with more than 1,000 roles generated in Gujarat alone.
As the world enters the second half of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (2021–2030), Forests by Heartfulness stands as a uniquely Indian model of climate action – scientifically robust, spiritually guided, and socially inclusive. The organization invites CSR partners, state governments, and civil society groups to join hands in accelerating the pace and depth of India’s green transformation.
A Greener Tomorrow, One Forest at a Time
FBH is not just planting trees – it’s growing living ecosystems, restoring balance, and creating climate-ready communities. As the world searches for sustainable solutions to the climate crisis, FBH offers a replicable, scalable, and deeply human model of regeneration.

The Cast of Shemaroo Umang’s Badi Haveli Ki Chhoti Thakurain Plants a Greener Tomorrow on World Environment Day

World Environment Day brought a refreshing change of pace on the sets of Shemaroo Umang’s show Badi Haveli Ki Chhoti Thakurain, as lead actors Diksha Dhami (Chaina), Sheel Verma (Jaiveer), and Ishita Ganguly (Chamkili) took part in a special plantation drive. Amidst a busy shoot schedule, the trio stepped away from the cameras to plant saplings around their set — each one personally committing to do their bit to protect the planet.

For Ishita Ganguly, the experience was deeply personal. “For me, Environment Day is not just about one day, it’s about every little choice we make, every single day,” she shared. “Today, planting those saplings around our set felt really special. I’ve always found peace in nature – the sound of rustling leaves, the scent of wet soil after rain, or just watching the sky change colors at sunset. Nature grounds me and reminds me what truly matters.”

She also offered simple but effective eco-friendly habits she follows in her daily life: “To avoid future problems, I carry my own water bottle, avoid plastic, reuse what I can, and plant at least one sapling every year. These might seem like small things, but they make a big difference when done with intention.”

Reflecting on her emotional connection with the environment, Ishita added: “We often look for magic in big achievements or faraway places, but honestly, the Earth is the real magician – it heals our body and soul in its own unique ways. If we don’t protect this magic now, we might lose it forever. I want to keep walking barefoot on soft grass, keep watching butterflies flutter around flowers, and keep breathing in fresh, clean air. Let’s not wait for a miracle – let’s be the miracle for Mother Earth!”

Their initiative may have been quiet and simple, but the message it sent was loud and clear: it’s the small, meaningful actions that help nurture a healthier planet for tomorrow.

Tune in to Badi Haveli Ki Chhoti Thakurain every Monday to Saturday at 9:00 PM, only on Shemaroo Umang.
