[Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd.] Seven automotive MLCCs

[Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd.] Seven automotive MLCCs

In recent years, as ADAS and AD technologies advance, the number and performance level of systems installed in vehicles have continued to increase. As a result, demand for higher capacitance low-voltage MLCCs used around ICs has grown to ensure stable operation. In addition, as the number of MLCCs mounted on PCBs increases, space constraints become the critical, limiting factor in design. At the same time, for medium-rated voltage MLCCs used in automotive power lines, there is a rising demand for both miniaturization and higher capacitance to improve power and mounting density. These needs are particularly pronounced in ADAS and AD systems, where IC peripheral circuits and power lines are both subject to significant voltage fluctuations, requiring further increases in capacitance and reductions in component size. Leveraging its proprietary ceramic materials along with particle refinement and uniformity technologies, Murata introduces seven automotive MLCCs that achieve the world’s largest capacitance by rated voltage and size.

For low-rated voltage MLCCs, Murata has expanded its lineup of products with a capacitance of 100 µF or higher, achieving 100 µF in the 1206-inch (3.2 mm × 1.6 mm) size, which was previously available only in the larger 1210-inch (3.2 mm × 2.5 mm) size. This reduces PCB mounting area by approximately 36%. In addition, in the smallest automotive MLCC size of 0201-inch (0.6 mm × 0.3 mm), capacitance has been increased from the typical 1-2.2 µF. For medium-rated voltage MLCCs, Murata has achieved a capacitance of 1 µF in the 0402-inch (1.0 mm × 0.5 mm) size, which was previously realized in the larger 0603-inch (1.6 mm × 0.8 mm), reducing PCB mounting area by approximately 61%.

By combining this product lineup, Murata addresses a wide range of challenges in the automotive market, including higher capacitance requirements around ICs, severe PCB space constraints, and stabilization of power lines, thereby contributing to stable operation of entire systems and greater design flexibility. Furthermore, reducing the number of MLCCs required enables lower PCB material usage and reduced power consumption during manufacturing, helping to lessen the environmental impact.

In the low-voltage lineup, the 2.5 Vdc rated GCM035D70E225ME02 is available in the 0201-inch size (0.6 mm × 0.3 mm), and offers a capacitance of 2.2 µF, achieving the world’s largest capacitance for its rated voltage and size class. The 1206-inch size (3.2 mm × 1.6 mm) GCM31CD70E107ME36 is rated at 2.5 Vdc and provides 100 µF, the world’s highest capacitance in its class. The GCM035D70G225MEC2 is rated at 4 Vdc, available in the 0201-inch size (0.6 mm × 0.3 mm), and delivers 2.2 µF, also the world’s highest capacitance for this category. The GCM31CD70G107ME36 is rated at 4 Vdc, available in the 1206-inch size (3.2 mm × 1.6 mm), and offers 100 µF, achieving the world’s highest capacitance for this rated voltage and size. The GCM32ED70G227MEC4 is rated at 4 Vdc, available in the 1210-inch size (3.2 mm × 2.5 mm), and provides 220 µF, the world’s largest capacitance in this class.

The medium-rated voltage lineup has two part numbers designed for power line applications. The GCM155D71E105KE36 is rated at 25 Vdc, available in the 0402-inch size (1.0 mm × 0.5 mm), and offers 1 µF, achieving the world’s highest capacitance for this rated voltage and size. Also rated at 25 Vdc, the GCM31CC71E226ME36 is available in the 1206-inch size (3.2 mm × 1.6 mm), and provides 22 µF, also the world’s highest capacitance in its class.

Murata has long focused on the development of automotive MLCCs and has delivered a wide range of products that demonstrate excellent performance across applications from IC peripheral circuits to powertrain and safety systems. Going forward, Murata will continue to contribute to higher performance and increased functionality of cars through ongoing product development that responds to evolving market needs.

Ahmedabad-Based Greendot Biopak Expands 100% Bio-Based, Compostable and SUPD-Exempt Packaging Solutions for a Changing Global Regulatory Landscape

Business Wire India

Greendot Biopak Pvt. Ltd., a globally recognised material science company in the sustainable packaging space, is strengthening its focus on 100% bio-based & home compostable aqueous barrier coating and coated paper and paperboard packaging solutions for India and global foodservice markets. The company is deepening its work in this area as brands, converters and foodservice businesses look for alternatives to conventional single-use plastic products and disposables that can better meet evolving performance, sustainability and regulatory requirements.

This growing focus comes as demand rises across food delivery, quick-service restaurants (QSR), food & beverage and packaged food segments for packaging that can meet both performance and sustainability expectations. In India, this shift is being driven by growing scrutiny of single-use materials and increasing interest in compostable, repulpable and food-safe alternatives. Brands are increasingly seeking food-safe, toxin-free and compostable packaging solutions that can meet both performance and regulatory expectations.

Europe’s regulatory direction is adding further momentum. The Single-Use Plastics Directive (SUPD) has accelerated the move away from paper and board products that use synthetic polymer linings for grease and moisture resistance. At the same time, proposed revisions to the Packaging and Packaging Waste Directive (PPWD) seek to ensure that all packaging on the European Union market is reusable or recyclable in an economically viable way by 2030. For Indian exporters, food brands and packaging companies serving international customers, these developments are increasingly shaping material choices and product strategies.

Greendot Biopak’s coating solutions are developed entirely from renewable, bio-based raw materials and are designed to add barrier performance to paper and paperboard substrates. The company has developed a groundbreaking 100% biobased coating used in takeaway boxes, wraps, trays, cups, pouches and other single-use foodservice and packaging applications. The coating solutions are compliant with EN 13432 and IS/ISO 17088 and are designed to support home compostability requirements.

The company’s approach centres on coating chemistry made from naturally occurring, unmodified materials and ingredients such as starch, plant proteins, seaweed extracts, cellulose, waxes, oils and minerals, none of which fall under the SUPD restricted list. Greendot Biopak’s approach replaces the need for conventional barrier materials such as PE, LDPE, PP, PET, PS, EPS, PLA, PBAT, acrylics, oxo-degradable plastics, fluorine-based coatings, and other modified synthetic polymers.

Greendot Biopak’s coated solutions deliver oil and grease resistance in the 14–16 Kit range, heat sealability between 80°C and 160°C, and high repulpability. These properties make them suitable for applications ranging from foodservice packaging to flexible paper-based formats. This performance profile is aimed at addressing a gap in the market, where many existing alternatives still require a compromise between functionality, recyclability and end-of-life outcomes.

“Packaging requirements are changing rapidly, especially in food delivery, QSR and packaged food,” said Rajen Bhagyoday, Founder, Greendot Biopak Pvt. Ltd. “Brands today need solutions that can deliver barrier performance and food safety while staying aligned with the direction of global regulation. Under SUPD, any synthetic polymer that forms a separate layer may come within the scope of restriction, regardless of biodegradability claims. This is why the focus has been on pioneering compostable aqueous barrier coating technologies based on 100% biobased natural, unmodified plant polymers.”

The Indian market is also moving in the same direction. As enforcement around single-use plastics and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) strengthens, plastic-coated solutions used in foodservice and packaging are drawing greater attention, particularly where recyclability and compostability remain unclear. For businesses, the challenge is no longer only replacing plastic, but finding packaging that combines grease resistance, strength, heat sealability and a credible end-of-life pathway.

Under SUPD, paper and paperboard products that contain a synthetic lining for water, oil & grease resistance may be treated as restricted if that layer acts as a plastic component and cannot be easily separated during recycling. By contrast, 100% biobased coating that does form a distinct layer on a substrate provides a superior functional barrier against moisture, water vapor, oil & grease, oxygen, aroma transmission without the banned list of ingredients, but finding packaging that combines WVTR, MVTR, OTR, OGR, Aroma barriers with heat sealability and a credible end-of-life pathway, thus qualifies for exemption. This is creating demand for compostable, repulpable and SUPD-exempt paper-based packaging solutions across both domestic and export-oriented markets.

Greendot Biopak’s solutions are backed by certifications and validations across compostability, food contact and chemical safety. These include EN 13432 and IS/ISO 17088 for compostability, along with food-contact testing and compliance verification by ISEGA. Additional validations include PFAS-free testing and migration testing for food-contact applications.

Building on its early work in water-based barrier chemistry, Greendot Biopak is now scaling its coated paper and paperboard packaging solutions for brands and converters in India and overseas markets seeking compostable, bio-based and SUPD-exempt alternatives to conventional single-use plastic products and disposables.

Nadia brings a unique combination of skills to 500 Global and will play a key role in defining and executing the firm’s strategic agenda. Her track record includes developing high trust partnerships with some of the world’s largest sovereign and institutional funders, and she brings expertise across venture, private equity, and infrastructure asset classes – a lens that maps directly onto 500 Global’s strategic evolution as a firm.

“Institutional and sovereign investment strategies should not only include backing great founders, but focus on aligning capital, policy, and innovation at scale,” said Courtney Powell, Chief Operating Officer and Managing Partner of 500 Global. “Nadia has spent her career at the intersection of all three, and she understands that unlocking investment in complex, high-growth economies requires convening the right partners around a shared thesis and translating that into models that can be repeated across sectors.”

“We’re seeing a turning point in how institutional capital engages with emerging markets – moving from a conversation organized around risk to one organized around what’s possible when the right capital, talent and infrastructure converge,” said Nadia. “To make that real, we need to move from one-off projects to durable platforms, and to redesign blended finance around aspiration rather than anxiety. 500 Global has spent fifteen years doing the hardest part — building local presence, earning founder trust, and investing in the ecosystems that make great companies and sustainable growth possible. I’ve arrived at just the right time to help build the next layer – the partnerships and platforms that move institutional capital into emerging markets and sectors at scale – and in so doing, create real, lasting impact in the places where it matters most.”

500 Global’s investment platform is rooted in the markets where it invests, comprising approximately 140 team members in more than 20 countries, with over 50% of its managing partners and senior leadership roles held by women. The firm’s platform spans the full investment environment – from catalyzing early opportunities, to scaling high-growth companies, to architecting sovereign mandates and national transformation strategies – underpinned by a dedicated ecosystem development and policy advisory infrastructure. It is this combination of local presence, representative leadership, and integrated capabilities that 500 Global relies on to help source high-quality opportunities and structure the partnerships required to scale them.

This next phase of 500 Global’s growth will focus on sectors where the convergence of institutional capital and entrepreneurial innovation creates not just commercial opportunity, but lasting economic and social impact, including climate resilience, global health, digital infrastructure, and financial inclusion.

Through this, Skyscanner brings fans closer to the game while enabling smarter, more seamless travel planning around cricket.

Inside the Cricket Travel Boom: Key Trends

Travel demand took off following the announcement of the first phase of Indian Premier League (IPL) fixtures on 11 March, with Skyscanner recording a surge in domestic flight searches through to 12 April as fans geared up for the season. In the run-up to the opening clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), searches for the weekend of 27–30 March climbed 45% YoY (year-on-year), signalling early excitement. Mumbai quickly became the top trending destination for that weekend, driven by the face-off between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Momentum continued into April, with the ever-popular rivalry between RCB and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Bengaluru sparking a 56% YoY jump in searches for the weekend of 3–6 April, highlighting how fixture drops could potentially be triggering spikes in travel demand, among Indians.

Commenting on the campaign, Neel Ghose, Skyscanner Travel Trends and Destinations Expert, shared, “Cricket has always had an unmatched hold on Indian audiences, and following the game on the road is just as much a part of that passion. We’re seeing fans plan entire trips around match schedules, navigating last-minute bookings, cross-city journeys, and peak travel windows. With ‘Hotline to SKY,’ Skyscanner is simplifying this process through its features, such as Price Alerts, Whole Month, and flexible search filters, helping users make more informed decisions with greater control. And with SKY lending his voice, we’re bringing a perspective that cricket fans across India instinctively trust, combining real-time insights with guidance that’s as familiar as it is useful, so travellers can stay one step ahead.”

Sharing his experience, Suryakumar Yadav, Skyscanner Brand Ambassador, said, “Being part of ‘Hotline to SKY’ has been special for me. As cricketers, we always feel the energy of fans in the stands, but this was a chance to be part of their journey in a different way, as they travel to support the teams they love. Recording these messages made me think through real travel situations fans face, and I’m proud to be able to share helpful tips via Skyscanner’s features, tools, and hacks, that make their experience smoother. I encourage everyone to pick up the phone and dial in to the hotline to not only get some travel planning tips but also hear some of my personal takes.”

Cricket trips aren’t just about the match anymore; they’ve become mini getaways. Fans are using these moments to explore new cities, discover great local food, and soak in the buzz of match day alongside fellow supporters from all over the world. Skyscanner tapped into this shift through its ‘Pitch Perfect Journeys’ campaign last year, which revealed that while 80% of fans were excited to travel for their favourite IPL teams, more than half were turning it into a longer break, adding a few extra days to enjoy the destination.

Building on this, through the ‘Hotline to SKY’ campaign, Skyscanner continues to deepen its understanding of real traveller needs, offering meaningful support shaped by real-life experiences. By staying close to what fans encounter on their journeys, Skyscanner remains focused on making travel planning simpler, so fans can focus on what truly matters, blending the thrill of the game with the joy of discovering something new.

TAU Systems & Lawrence Berkeley Lab Achieve Breakthrough in Laser-Powered Accelerator, Enable 8+ Hours of Continuous FEL Output

Carlsbad, California, 8 April 2026: TAU Systems, a pioneer in compact particle accelerator technology, today announced a major scientific milestone: the first-ever demonstration of reliable, continuous operation of a laser-powered accelerator (LPA)-driven free-electron laser (FEL) sustained over more than eight hours without operator intervention. The achievement, published in a new research paper, marks a pivotal step toward making ultra-bright, tunable light sources practical for real-world scientific and industrial applications.

Traditional FEL facilities rely on large, costly radio-frequency accelerators that occupy entire campuses. LPAs shrink the acceleration distance from hundreds of meters to just millimeters by harnessing powerful laser pulses to accelerate electrons in a plasma. While the physics of LPA-driven FELs has been understood for almost 50 years, LPAs have historically had lower beam quality and stability, until now. Translating this technology into a stable light source has remained one of the field’s most stubborn engineering challenges.

TAU Systems & Lawrence Berkeley Lab Achieve Breakthrough in Laser-Powered Accelerator, Enable 8+ Hours of Continuous FEL Output

The TAU Systems team, in collaboration with Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab), achieved this breakthrough by engineering a suite of interlinking stabilisation technologies onto the Hundred Terawatt Undulator (HTU) experiment at Berkeley Lab’s BELLA Center. The result was 100 MeV electron beams delivered at 1 Hz with high consistency over a continuous ten-hour period, driving a self-amplified spontaneous emission (SASE) FEL operating at 420 nm (in the visible blue-ultraviolet range) for more than eight hours without any manual adjustments.

Stephen Milton, VP of Accelerator Science at TAU Systems said:This is the moment the community has been working toward. We have shown that an LPA-driven FEL is not just a proof-of-concept experiment. It is a platform capable of delivering the stability that real scientific and industrial users demand.”

Beyond simply operating the light source autonomously, the team used the extensive dataset collected during the run to map correlations between the properties of the drive laser, plasma source, and electron beam, and the resulting FEL output. These insights are already informing the next phase of performance improvements, with residual correlations in the data indicating that further gains in stability and brightness are within reach.

“This reported level of reliability and performance of the LPA-driven FEL not only represents a great improvement toward demonstrating the potential for future light source applications,” says Finn Kohrell, a postdoctoral scholar in the BELLA Center at Berkeley Lab and lead author of the published results. “It also allows us to gather an unprecedented amount of data about the highly complex interaction between the LPA and FEL process, and to identify which parameters are most impactful for further improving the FEL performance.”

The implications extend well beyond just one laboratory. Compact LPA-driven light sources have long been envisioned as a way to democratize access to high-brightness X-ray and UV beams, which are currently only available at a handful of national synchrotron and FEL facilities worldwide. Applications include structural biology, materials science, semiconductor lithography, medical imaging, and fundamental physics research. By demonstrating autonomous, multi-hour operation, TAU Systems and Berkeley Lab have cleared a critical barrier on the path to commercially deployable compact FELs.

TAU Systems characterizes the current system as a powerful research platform for the broader LPA-driven FEL community, enabling systematic studies of accelerator-to-light-source coupling that were previously impossible without long-duration stable operation. The company expects the findings to accelerate progress across the field and inform the design of future compact light source installations.
