Bollywood’s rising star, Triptii Dimri has carved a distinct niche for herself in the industry with her versatility and impactful performances. She recently graced the latest episode of In The Ring with Filmfare, now streaming on Filmfare’s YouTube channel. Hosted by Jitesh Pillai, Editor-in-Chief, Filmfare, this engaging talk show offers fans an exclusive glimpse into the lives and careers of some of the most sought-after talents in the film and OTT industries, all set against the backdrop of a live audience that heightens the immersive experience.

Triptii Dimri, who made her debut with Laila Majnu (2018) has quickly garnered attention through her exceptional performances in Bulbbul, Qala, Animal, Bad Newz, and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3. With her magnetic on-screen presence and unwavering dedication to her craft, she undoubtedly stands as one of the most promising talents in the industry today. During the interview, she reflected on her transformative journey from rejection to recognition, candidly opened up about her battle with loneliness, and shared insights into her challenges in the industry and personal growth.

Reflecting on her first audition in Bollywood, Triptii fondly reminisced about the experience, sharing “Back in 2017, I auditioned for Laila Majnu but was rejected. A year later, in 2018, I gave it another shot, quite casually this time, during the ongoing auditions for the same role. Honestly, I wasn’t very good then either. However, after attending a week-long workshop with Mukesh Chhabra Sir, I was finally selected to play Laila and went to Kashmir for the shoot. I was so new to the industry back then that I didn’t even know the full forms of terms like DOP or POV. Avinash was a wonderful co-actor who helped me a lot to understand the shoot and made it easy.”

Opening up about her struggle with loneliness, Triptii revealed, “During a rough phase, especially around Covid, I faced loneliness and rejection from auditions but chose not to share my struggles with anyone or seek therapy. Instead, I stayed busy with play sessions and discussions, pushing myself forward.”

Discussing her collaboration with Rajkummar Rao in Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, Triptii stated, “When it comes to a comedy film, I learned that there’s often little time to prepare in advance, and improvisation on the spot is key. Working with an actor like Rajkummar Rao, who constantly improvises on set, taught me so much. I particularly learned a lot during the shoot of Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video. It was truly wonderful to act alongside him. Looking back, I’m so grateful for the workshops I attended before getting busy with films—they helped shape my craft.”

Spilling the beans about her career-defining film, Animal, Triptii disclosed, “I connect with the character I play, without overthinking whether it’s a feminist film or not. Moving from Qala to Animal was a big shift, but my focus was always on the character. Being part of Animal was a change for me as an actor—it was on a much bigger scale. But I didn’t see any problem with my role; my job was to portray the character with full honesty. Every film gives actors the chance to live so many layers of life through their roles. I approached Animal the same way, performing with sincerity. For me, not taking anything too personally helped me navigate and overcome everything that came with Animal.”

Talking about her dating preferences and what she has learned from her previous relationships, she remarked, “I don’t want to date any actors because it’s such a busy life that it becomes hard to give time to each other. One thing I’ve learned from relationships is that whoever you’re dating becomes a mirror to you—they reflect how you deal with things and navigate challenges together. Everyone has their own baggage and individuality, but for me, understanding is key. I look for someone who respects me and wouldn’t try to put me down. I was in a relationship for five years in the past, and those experiences have shaped what I value now.”

Taking a look back at her career so far, the actor candidly shared insights into her challenges and personal growth, “I’ve made many mistakes in my short career, but I’ve never given them too much importance in my life. If I were to go back and do the same films again, I wouldn’t change a thing. I have no doubts about choosing my career as an actor—it’s a challenging path, but you learn to navigate it. I’ve realized that when I’m busy, I’m truly happy, and I wouldn’t want to change anything about my journey, not even the trolling. In fact, trolling has its own way of making you stronger and more resilient.”

Dreams, Doubts, and Dead Ends: Why Gen Z Can't Find Career Clarity

WhatsApp Image 2024-05-15 at 11.44.25 AM

By Gaurav Bhagat, Founder, The Gaurav Bhagat Academy

For many young people today, the journey from choosing a career to thriving in one feels more like navigating a maze than following a path. A recent survey by LinkedIn revealed that 72% of Gen Z workers feel unprepared for their future careers, while 45% cite an overwhelming number of options as their biggest challenge.

This generation, growing up in an age of limitless information and constant societal shifts, often finds itself at a crossroads of dreams, doubts, and dead ends. Here’s why, and how we can address this challenge.

A Career Landscape in Flux
Gone are the days when career paths were linear. Today’s industries are evolving at breakneck speed, with technology, digital marketing, and the creator economy leading the charge. Traditional professions like law and medicine coexist with emerging fields such as UX/UI design, sustainability consulting, and data analytics.

While this diversity is exciting, it has also created what researchers call “choice overload.” Gen Z isn’t just choosing between a few established careers; they’re sorting through countless new roles, many of which didn’t exist a decade ago. Adding to the pressure is the glamorized version of success often portrayed on social media—stories of overnight riches and seemingly effortless achievements.

Adapting Education to Bridge the Gap
To equip Gen Z for an unpredictable future, education systems need to evolve, offering more than just rote learning and standardized tests. Here are some key strategies:

1. Promoting Entrepreneurship & Intrapreneurship
Encouraging students to think like entrepreneurs—whether building their own businesses or innovating within organizations—can prepare them for the uncertainties of modern careers. For instance, programs that teach leadership, creative problem-solving, and adaptability can enable students to excel in both independent and corporate environments.

2. Embracing Hands-on Learning
Practical, real-world exposure is critical. Experiential programs that allow students to explore different roles—such as internships in marketing, sales, and operations—can help them discover their strengths early on. Vocational training should no longer be an afterthought but an integral part of education.

3. Leveraging Technology
With attention spans shorter than ever, tech-driven learning methods can make a significant impact. Interactive modules, gamified lessons, and virtual internships can engage students better than traditional lectures while providing relevant skills for today’s tech-savvy workplaces.

Social Media: A Double-Edged Sword
Social media is a powerful influence on Gen Z’s career aspirations, offering exposure to diverse opportunities. Platforms like LinkedIn connect users with mentors, while TikTok and Instagram showcase creative professions and entrepreneurial journeys.

However, the downside is significant. The constant comparison to peers and influencers often creates unrealistic expectations. Many young people feel inadequate or believe success should come quickly and effortlessly.

To mitigate these effects:
● Encourage critical consumption of content. Understand the difference between authentic success stories and sensationalized ones.
● Promote long-term growth through internships, mentorships, and credible upskilling opportunities.
● Equip students with tools to navigate social media mindfully, focusing on their own pace and goals rather than external pressures.

How Organizations Can Help
While educational institutions lay the groundwork, organizations play a pivotal role in shaping young professionals’ career clarity and confidence. Here’s how:
● Structured Onboarding: Comprehensive orientation programs and self-paced learning platforms can help young employees hit the ground running.
● Mentorship: Pairing employees with experienced mentors fosters personal and professional growth.
● Career Roadmaps: Providing a clear growth trajectory reduces uncertainty and builds motivation.
● Feedback Culture: Regular feedback loops and recognition create a sense of belonging and help employees see their value.

The Way Forward
If we want Gen Z to thrive, we need a multi-pronged approach. Education systems must adapt to provide relevant, practical skills, and organizations should foster a culture of inclusivity, learning, and mentorship.

For Gen Z, finding career clarity isn’t just about eliminating doubts; it’s about learning to navigate an evolving world with resilience, adaptability, and purpose. Together, we can help them turn dreams into realities.
