What the conference will address

Organised by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs through the Institute of Urban Transport (India), with support from the Odisha government, the two-day conference will examine integrated transport infrastructure, digital mobility solutions, and ways to improve everyday urban life.

Discussions are expected to cover sustainable public transport, multimodal integration, first- and last-mile connectivity, traffic congestion, vehicle-emission reduction, and inclusive mobility for women, children, elderly people and persons with disabilities.

Odisha’s urban agenda

The Odisha government has framed the event as part of its “Samruddha Sahar, Viksit Odisha” vision, which emphasises integrated planning, modern infrastructure, accessible public transport, affordable housing, digital governance and sustainable civic services.

The state says its priorities include strengthening urban mobility, ensuring reliable water supply, and developing clean, green and citizen-centric cities. Hosting the national conference is intended to showcase Bhubaneswar’s urban-development initiatives and attract collaboration on future-ready city solutions.

Exhibition and follow-up event

Alongside the conference, an exhibition is showcasing technologies, services and projects related to urban transport and smart-city development. The UMI event will be followed by the second National Urban Conclave on October 24–25 at the same venue.

Officials said the conference aims to move beyond infrastructure alone, measuring urban progress by how safely, affordably and inclusively residents can move through and access their cities.
