New Titles Expand on Landmark Work to Showcase How GIS Drives Better Decisions Across Water and Land Management

  • Esri will debut the Power of Where Collection at the 2026 Esri User Conference.
  • The collection builds on the 2024 book The Power of Where by Jack Dangermond, extending its ideas into real-world GIS applications.
  • New titles in the collection highlight GIS uses in water forecasting, land records, infrastructure planning, and economic development.
  • The series demonstrates how spatial analysis helps organizations address challenges including sustainability, climate resilience, and governance.

Esri, the global leader in location intelligence, will debut the Power of Where Collection at the 2026 Esri User Conference in July. The collection builds on the ideas introduced in The Power of Where: A Geographic Approach to the World’s Greatest Challenges, by Esri president Jack Dangermond, published in 2024. The new collection expands these foundational concepts into focused, real-world applications that demonstrate the growing impact of geographic information system (GIS) technology.

The first two other books starting the collection are Geowater: A Geographic Approach to Water Data and Forecasting and Parcels: How Property Shapes Geography. Together, these titles illustrate how spatial thinking and GIS are transforming how organizations understand systems, manage resources, and plan for the future.

The Power of Where Collection reflects Esri’s ongoing commitment to helping organizations make smarter, more informed decisions across industries—on topics ranging from water sustainability and climate resilience to landownership, governance, and economic development.

“The geographic approach is essential to understanding and solving today’s most pressing challenges,” said Dangermond. “This collection demonstrates how GIS connects data, people, and place to create a more sustainable and resilient future.”

Dangermond’s book explores the history, philosophy, and real-world applications of GIS through stories, maps, and insights from decades of innovation. Additionally, the new collection includes titles that provide distinct perspectives on how GIS is applied in practice:

The collection will be featured at the Esri User Conference through author presentations, during book signings, and at the Esri Press stand. The collection will expand with future titles that bring the geographic approach to additional industries and disciplines.
