New Delhi, 13th October 2023 Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari emphasized the pivotal role of politics as a catalyst for societal reform. He underscored that the essence of politics lies in nurturing national development, creating employment opportunities, and spearheading welfare initiatives. These remarks were made during his address at the Amrit Ratna event hosted by News 18 India in New Delhi on Tuesday.

He said that people need to be judged by their quality and skill. They should be valued by their commitment and dedication and not by their caste, creed or gender. Those who perform well and work hard, should be recognised.”

Asked about his public appreciation for good work, he said, “I don’t know much about civil engineering but I do know how to get things done. Teamwork is very important. There must be an audit of performance like regular budget audits.”

The minister spoke about the importance of maintaining a good relationship with peers. Asked about if he has any friends in Opposition, he said, “Human relationships are quite important. I have friends across the political spectrum. I have many close friends across the board.”

He stated that the Delhi – Mumbai Highway will be completed before the end of this year and the government is working on connecting Kashmir to Kanyakumari through the highway which would reduce travel time by 22 hours.

Asked about contesting the 2024 Lok Sabha election, he said the party decides who will fight an election. I believe in work. I do not worry about the future. I am very satisfied with whatever I have got.

Talking about his upcoming biopic, he said that a film can be made but there should not be any controversy.
