JAKARTA, Aug 17: Vietnamese electric vehicle (EV) maker VinFast has partnered with Indonesian automotive group Gowa Motor Group to establish a joint venture aimed at expanding its dealership network across Indonesia.
The two companies signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Monday, with the proposed joint venture targeting the establishment of at least 30 VinFast showrooms and service centres across the country.
The partnership is part of VinFast’s broader strategy to strengthen its presence in Indonesia, one of Southeast Asia’s key emerging electric mobility markets. The new network is expected to improve consumer access to VinFast vehicles, after-sales services, maintenance and customer support.
VinFast currently operates more than 40 showrooms across Indonesia and plans to add more than 150 new showrooms in the coming years. The agreement with Gowa Motor Group is expected to support this expansion by leveraging the Indonesian company’s local automotive expertise and distribution network.
Antonio Zara, Chief Executive Officer of VinFast Southeast Asia, said the partnership would combine VinFast’s product development capabilities, technology and EV ecosystem with Gowa Motor Group’s local market knowledge and operational experience.
He said the collaboration would help provide Indonesian customers with a more convenient and comprehensive EV ownership experience.
Sadikin Aksa, Commissioner of Gowa Motor, said the company sees significant potential in Indonesia’s electric vehicle market and believes in VinFast’s long-term strategy.
He said the partnership would create business opportunities while supporting efforts to accelerate Indonesia’s transition towards greener transportation.
Gowa Motor Group has experience across multiple automotive brands and vehicle segments, with operations spanning automotive distribution, dealerships, passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles. Its local market knowledge and established network are expected to play a key role in VinFast’s dealership expansion.
Indonesia has emerged as an important market in VinFast’s global growth strategy. The company has expanded its product portfolio in the country, commenced operations at its manufacturing facility in Subang and developed an EV ecosystem through partnerships covering charging infrastructure, ride-hailing, financing, banking, authorised service workshops and dealerships.
Through the combination of local manufacturing, an expanding distribution network and supporting EV infrastructure, VinFast aims to strengthen its position in Indonesia and accelerate the adoption of electric mobility across Southeast Asia.
