World Environment Day: From Applause to Accountability—India Must Lead the Circular Shift

By Mr. Rajesh Gupta, Founder & Director of Recyclekaro
“On this World Environment Day, let’s remember that sustainability is no longer a choice—it’s a responsibility we owe to the planet, to future generations, and to ourselves. The era of unchecked consumption is behind us. Today, the question is not whether we need to change, but how urgently and how collectively we act.
The real shift begins when we stop viewing sustainability as a siloed domain of experts and policymakers, and start recognizing it as a shared commitment; embedded in every household, every industry, and every decision we make. It’s time to move from linear thinking, where we extract, use, and discard, to circular solutions that regenerate value and resources at every stage.
From how we manufacture products to how we recycle old devices, from minimizing waste to maximizing reuse each step we take contributes to a larger ripple effect. In the circular economy, waste isn’t the end ;it’s the beginning of something new.
India, with its scale, talent, and urgency, has the opportunity to lead this global transformation. But it starts with intention. It starts with awareness. And above all, it starts with action. The planet doesn’t just need applause for sustainability—it needs accountability. Let’s rise to that challenge.
