Chocolates remain small bites of comfortable indulgence: Reveals Mondelez’s State of Snacking report

INDIA – 07 April 2023 – After Mondelēz International’s announcement on the launch of its fourth global consumer trends study, the State of Snacking™ report examining year-on-year insights on how consumers make snacking decisions, the company today unveiled the India report. The 4th edition of the study highlights how economic challenges are impacting consumer snacking choices around the globe. On the bright side, most surveyed Indian consumers continue to prioritize snacking, despite rising costs and inflationary pressures as snacking’s become the sole way to get respite from worldly issues. Thus, 86% of Indians continued to find room in their grocery budget for snacks.

This is at the back of an evolving relationship with food wherein snacking has become a daily staple as 76% Indians claim to snack twice a day. Other key findings of the India report state:

  • Essential: Chocolate remains essential with 83% saying that chocolate is for the soul.
  • Indulgence: Consumers are seeking that indulgent snacks are part of their everyday life (77%) and that they provide moments of peace in their day (81%). As per last year’s report, 88% consumers surveyed snacking improved mental health emotionally
  • Connection: Snacking also offers routine moments of togetherness. Eight in 10 consumers (79%) snack to connect with others with nine in 10 (88%) saying, “sharing snacks with others is my love language.
  • Trust: Indian consumers also report having more faith in known brands to carry them through this time, with 85% saying, “known brands are better equipped to deliver during challenging times.
  • Mindful: Many are also tuning into portion sizes, saying they take time to portion out snacks before eating them (82%) and check nutrition labels on snacks before buying them (86%)

  • Additionally, 9 in 10 Indian consumers (88%) say their household sits down to enjoy a snack together at least on a weekly basis

SNACK DISCOVERY & PERSONALIZATION

In the digital era, social media and other channels are acting as a catalyst for the snack exploration process. Over three-quarters of the consumers say they need more “snackspo” (or snack inspiration) in their life, especially Millennials (85%)

  • Nearly nine in 10 Indian consumers (89%) either have bought or would buy a snack in-store after seeing it online
  • Consumers crave multiple sources of inspiration and turn to digital platforms for exploring new snacks. More than three-quarters of Indian consumers would browse for snacks to buy in a virtual experience (76%),
  • 84% will go out of their way to find their favorite snack, while a similar percentage (82%) would even pay extra to bring back some of their favorite childhood snack brands.

MINDFUL SNACKING

Consumers are trying to be mindful and present while snacking, with 87% reporting they are selective about the indulgent snacks they choose and 84% reporting they take time to savor indulgent snacks.

  • Consumers are seeking that indulgent snacks are part of their everyday life (77%) and that they provide moments of peace in their day (81%). As per last year’s report, 88% consumers surveyed snacking improved mental health emotionally
  • Indian consumers are also making an effort to be mindful and present while enjoying these types of snacks, as eight in 10 (84%) are more likely to take time to savour indulgent snacks.

New Delhi/ Noida, April 7, 2023: Residential demand and supply in Delhi declined by 12.8% and 5.9% QoQ, respectively, while price increased by 2.8% QoQ, observed Magicbricks PropIndex Report January – March 2023. Further, owing to metro rail connectivity, quality infrastructure, and the availability of multiple residential options, Dwarka and Greater Kailash emerged as the most searched localities of Delhi.

Residential Market Insights

The report further observed that Delhi’s residential market recorded the highest demand for 3BHK where 52% of the homebuyers showed preference towards this configuration. This was followed by 2BHK units which commanded a 30% share of the total demand.

Elaborating on the trends, Sudhir Pai, CEO, of Magicbricks commented, “Several multilateral agencies have projected that the Indian economy will grow by 6-7% in FY’ 23, despite the global slowdown. The recent Union Budget has also introduced several encouraging initiatives, including substantial allocations to PMAY and UIDF, which have set the wheels in motion for facilitating employment opportunities and infrastructure development. Given the under-served demand for home-ownership in the affordable and mid-range segment, we are optimistic about the growth trajectory for residential demand in the coming quarters as well. The report concludes that owing to inflationary pressures on infrastructure costs, the average rate of ready-to-move and under-construction properties increased 2.1% and 9.3% QoQ, respectively.

Residential Market Insights for Greater Noida

The residential demand (searches) and supply (active listings) in Greater Noida increased 7.2% and 17.6% QoQ, respectively.

The average rates also inched up by 11.9% QoQ.

The average rate of ready-to-move and under-construction segments increased 10.3% and 16.3% QoQ respectively.

Greater Noida saw highest preference coming in for 2 BHK units with a demand share of 43% and 47% of available homes (supply) came in from 2BHK units.

Residential Market Insights for Gurugram

After witnessing a dip in two-quarters, Gurugram recorded a QoQ increase of 2.4% in supply (active listings) from Jan – March 2023 whereas demand (searches) declined by 1.9% QoQ.

Due to the mismatch of demand and supply, property rates appreciated by 9.3% QoQ and 18.1% YoY, which is the second highest, according to the report.

3 BHK units dominated the residential market with a 59% share in total demand and a 54% share in total supply.

Backed by affordability and accessibility to employment hubs, New Gurugram emerged as the showstopper based on demand & supply.

The event highlighted the immense potential of Gujarat, both in terms of its people and its commitment to progress. The attendees included entrepreneurs including social entrepreneurs, business leaders, and political figures, who shared their stories of success and vision for the future.

During the event, ABP Asmita honoured the exemplary achievements of Gujaratis in various fields such as education, culture, literature, music, cinema, sports, social services, and business. The event was made even more special by the presence of esteemed dignitaries such as Shri Bhupendra Patel, Chief Minister of Gujarat, Kanubhai Desai, Finance Minister, Gujarat, Balwant Singh Rajput, Cabinet Minister, Industry MSME, Civil Aviation, Labour & Employment, Gujarat, Kuber Dindor, Education Minister, Gujarat, Harsh Sanghavi, Home Minister, Gujarat, and Mukesh Patel, Minister of State for Forest & Environment, Climate Change, Water Resources & Water Supply.

The Asmita Sanman Puraskar 2023 was presented to nine distinguished personalities. Parimal Dhirajlal Nathwani, an Indian politician and industrialist, was honoured with the Maha Sanman for his exceptional work towards the Gujarati community. Rajnikant Devidas Shroff, Founder and Chairman of UPL Limited, was awarded the Asmita Sanman Puraskar for Business for his contribution towards the growth of the country.

Manhar Udhas, a renowned Hindi and Gujarati singer, was honoured with the Asmita Sanman Puraskar for Music for his contribution to the Gujarati music community and for singing for over 300 films of different languages. Karsan Ghavri, a former Indian cricketer, was awarded the Asmita Sanman Puraskar for Sports for bringing glory to the Indian cricket.

Praful Dave, a prominent singer, was presented with the Asmita Sanman Puraskar for Culture for lending his voice to over 7000+ Gujarati songs. Malji Bhai Desai, a Gandhian social worker, and a politician, was honoured with the award for promoting the economic and educational development of the rural population of Gujarat.

Yazdi Naoshriwan Karanjia, a Gujarati theatre artist, received the Asmita Sanman Puraskar for Literature for his several years of service in the field of the arts.

Sunil Damor received the Asmita Sanman Puraskar for Social Service who made a rare touching gesture by deciding to donate his infant’s body for medical studies in tribal dominated Dahod district in Central Gujarat. Last but not least, Dilip Joshi, a renowned Indian actor, was honoured with the Asmita Sanman Puraskar for Cinema for his outstanding contribution to the film industry.
