Singer Shaan to make his acting debut with Ilaiyaraaja’s multi-lingual musical ‘Music School

Singer Shaan to make his acting

The prowess and talent of Shaan as a singer need no introduction, but as he steps foot into the acting world with his debut with filmmaker Paparao Biyyala’s upcoming musical ‘Music School’ the singer-turned-actor expresses his gratitude.

Recently the trailer of Music School was unveiled in Mumbai which not only offered insights into the musical adventure that unfolds in the film but also piqued our interest with the glimpses of Shaan on screen.

While the actor has faced the camera earlier for his unforgettable music videos and multiple cameos over the years, Music School marks his first film as an actor playing a pivotal character.

Expressing his delight and gratitude, Shaan says, “When I first began working on a song for Music School, I had no idea I would end up starring in it as well. It so happened that when I was recording the song, the director of the film Paparao Biyyala felt I would be the perfect match for the character they were looking at and proposed the idea to cast me. I had an idea of the story as I was recording the song, but when Paparao sir narrated the script I was instantly on board. It was an extremely beautiful journey shooting for the film, we majorly shot in Goa and it added to the beauty and lively experience. I am extremely thankful to Paparao sir for giving me this opportunity and making me a part of his passion project.”

Director Paparao Biyyala shares, “We were looking for a flamboyant, energetic and lively person for the character but had no luck in finding the perfect match. I then saw Shaan recording one of the songs from the film, he was so excited and happy, he was literally dancing while recording and I immediately felt we found our guy. Shaan is not just a brilliant singer but also an effortless actor and most importantly a wonderful person. His positive aura and charming attitude convinced me to cast him in Music School.”

Shaan has recorded an original song in the film that is set to be released this week and he plays a pivotal role in the film which also stars Shriya Saran, and Sharman Joshi as the lead along with an ensemble cast comprising of respected and experienced senior actors as well as a bunch of talented newcomers as child artists.

Music School is a musical narration of the sensitive and prevailing concern of academic pressure subjected to young students by society, parents, and teachers. Of eleven songs in the film, three of them have been recreated from The Sound of Music, situationally woven beautifully in the film to suit the sensibilities of the Indian audience.

Directed and produced by IAS officer turned filmmaker Paparao Biyyala, the musical film employs an ace team of technicians.

The grandeur look of the film was captured by ace cinematographer Kiran Deohans. The cast includes Shriya Saran, Sharman Joshi and Prakash Raj in lead roles in addition to debutant Ozu Barua and Gracy Goswamy in critical roles. Other cast comprises of Benjamin Gilani, Suhasini Mulay, Mona Ambegaonkar, Leela Samson, Bugs Bhargava, Vinay Varma, Sreekanth Iyengar, Vaquar Sheikh, Phani and many other child actors.

EduFund Raises $3.5M In Pre-Series A Funding Led By MassMutual Ventures, DSP Investment Managers, and Kunal Shah

EduFund Raises

Ahmedabad, India, May 06, 2023 – EduFund, an India-based edu-fintech company, today announced that it has raised a Pre-Series A investment of $3.5M, led by global venture capital firm MassMutual Ventures (MMV). The start-up boasts of 70,000 successfully engaged parents on its platform. The round also saw participation from prominent investors DSP Investment Managers, Anchorage Capital Partners, and Kunal Shah.

Started in 2020 by founders Eela Dubey and Arindam Sengupta, the company offers a full stack solution dedicated to helping Indian parents plan, save and invest for their children’s future education. With education inflation hovering between 8-10% domestically, and over 4% in countries with high enrolment of Indian students, EduFund empowers parents to plan ahead and save across different asset classes to meet these rising costs over time. It also helps parents bridge financing needs by providing education loans and scholarships.

The app-based solution has partnered with leading Asset Management Companies (AMC) including Tata, DSP, UTI, ICICI, Aditya Birla and HDFC to offer investment products, and notable lenders such as ICICI Bank, HDFC Credila, IDFC, etc. to offer education loans. It also provides education counselling services to help prospective students understand their best-fit university.

“The demand for world class education in India is growing rapidly, and EduFund’s innovative approach to addressing the funding gap for higher education is very exciting. The founders’ asset management expertise and deep understanding of the market, coupled with the significance of education in Indian culture, makes the company a compelling investment opportunity. We are excited to partner with EduFund in their mission to make higher education accessible to all,” said Anvesh Ramineni, Managing Partner at MMV.

Co-Founders Dubey and Sengupta said: “Our goal at EduFund has always been to help parents start saving early and to provide solutions that will financially enable the aspirations they have for their children. Today, the entire education planning journey in India is very siloed. If a parent wants to save, they may visit a financial planner. If their child needs an education loan, they may approach a bank. We wanted to reduce these pain points, and bring the entire journey on to one platform so that parents can have a more seamless and centralized experience. With this new funding, we plan to accelerate our growth, create new solutions, and invest in technology.”

“Returns are a function of time (compounding). The luxury of time is available only to those investors who start early. Parents with young children have the advantage of having time on their side,” writes Managing Director and CEO of DSP Mutual Fund, Kalpen Parekh. He went on to mention that “this investment in EduFund is our way of encouraging two important objectives: real compounding and creating a corpus for our children’s education.”

Mission to Empower Teens With Financial Knowledge

Mission to Empower Teens With Financial Knowledge

Mumbai, April 29, 2023: Shaurya Kabra, a 17-year-old bright youngster, has taken up the admirable initiative of launching his book, Ek Prayaas, at a very young age. Recently, he distributed his book at Raajyakeey Uchch Praathamik Vidyaalay Manda in Ajmer to create awareness about financial literacy among students. This is one of the many projects Shaurya has undertaken to promote financial literacy in India, and to date, he has distributed 65,000 books among children in various cities.

The book, originally written in English, has been translated into Hindi, Marathi, and Tamil, and distributed in schools in different states, such as Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Bihar, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu. “Half of India’s rural population lacks financial knowledge, has limited access to information, and is unbanked. We recognized that financial inclusion would instill the habit of saving and investing, provide unbanked people with access to formal funding, and reduce their vulnerability to economic shocks,” says Shaurya. “Recognizing the importance of educating them from a young age, I decided to take the first step with my book. It uses simple language, story formats, fairy tales, interactive crossword puzzles, and activities to help rural and tribal populations understand and engage. Schools have added it to the curriculum.” further added by Shaurya.

Through this book, Shaurya attempts to share his financial knowledge and that of experts in the field. Shaurya has strong views on financial literacy and is a boy on a mission with immense “prayers” (efforts). The idea behind the book is to teach people about financial opportunities and increase their understanding of investments and how to grow their money.
