Arthroplasty Arthroscopy Summit to conceive an ‘Aatmanirbhar robot’ to minimise cost & provide precision treatment for patients

Apollo Hospitals,

Hyderabad,18th September 2023 Apollo Hospitals, Secunderabad; in association with the Apollo Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (AIMSR); hosted the one-day 7th Arthroplasty Arthroscopy Summit 2023 (AAS), under the aegis of the Telangana Orthopaedic Surgeon’s Association (TOSA) and Twin Cities Orthopaedic Society (TCOS), today at AIMSR, Jubilee Hills. Dr Mithin Aachi, Course Director, AAS and Sr. Ortho & Joint Replacement Surgeon, Apollo Hospitals, Secunderabad; Dr N. Somashekar Reddy, Organizing Chairman, AAS and Sr. Ortho & Joint Replacement Surgeon, Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad; Prof SS Mohanty, KEM Hospital, Mumbai; Dr Sunil Kini, Manipal Hospitals, Bangalore; Dr Debashish Chandra, CK Birla Hospital, Gurgoan and Dr Swapnil Keny, KB Bhabha Hospitals, Reliance Foundation Hospitals, Mumbai; briefed media about the latest techniques discussed at the summit.

The Summit was attended by over a hundred orthopaedic surgeons from across Telangana including several young ortho professionals. The thrust of this year’s Conference is on teaching young orthopaedic surgeons the latest surgical techniques. Close to 50 Orthopaedic Procedures and techniques were imparted under one roof in a day, by renowned national and local faculty.

This exhaustive teaching exercise is aimed to guide young orthopaedic surgeons in honing their knowledge and aptitude regarding correct indications and techniques of surgery. Our conference over the years has received immense patronage from the delegates for the valuable insights they gain here, while helping multiple students in gaining precision, says Dr N. Somashekar Reddy. This Summit is focusing on treating joint problems without resorting to knee or hip replacement surgeries. The deliberations were on how to grow cartilage between the joints and provide relief to the patients who can be managed without joint replacement and in cases where joint replacement is mandatory, is there a difference in robotic and regular surgeries.

The Summit focussed on newer frontiers in orthopaedic care using technology, especially robotic and AI dependant treatments, to enable greater surgical precision, speedy patient recovery and reduce the burden of treatment cost on patients. Robotic Knee Replacement as a new revolution in joint replacement surgery aims at accuracy and better patient outcomes. The Seminar visualised tremendous potential in technology revolutionising orthopaedic treatment.

Though Robotic surgery is yet to be proven through long term results and research, it has definitely proved handy in cup positioning in Hip Replacement Surgery and also in severe deformity knee replacements. An aatmanibhar robot could be the answer to reduce costs for patients in India without compromising on precision, that could be a game changer with the treatment becoming affordable to more patients in India. We are in talks with technocrats and start-ups to develop a robot prototype for ortho care, says Dr Mithin Aachi. At this Summit, we are focusing on new technologies that have come in orthopaedics especially robotics, cartilage replacements, platelet rich plasma and multiple other new options.

Prof SS Mohanty said, the Summit discussed about joint preservation surgeries, especially among the young patients. At least 15% to 20% patients are not satisfied with the conventional knee replacement surgery, therefore robotic assisted surgery is enabling joint alignment and stability and enhancing patient satisfaction levels and providing immediate relief from pain. In young patients, we opt for alternate procedures like platelet rich plasma, cartilage transplantation, realignment of the bone in the joint, to reduce trauma and preserve the joint for the next 15 to 20 years before the patient needs to go for joint replacement.

Dr Debashish Chandra said, we discussed at the Summit about how to preserve the joints and avoid the knee or hip replacement for patients under 50 years of age. Young patients in the age group of 20 to 40 years, who damaged their cartilage and had no option earlier, can benefit from cartilage transplant and implantation, cartilage fillers etc., Such patients have multiple options to lead a better life, which are equally successful with alignment correction surgeries.

The Seminar was of the opinion that a senior experienced surgeon gives equal and parallel results to Robot, but it is handy in patients with extremely bad deformities. The delegates felt that Making In India perhaps will be the best way to cut costs of Robot manufacture and procurement.

New single stage techniques for Cartilage lesions is another area which was deliberated and is fast proving in short term results to be very reliable to prevent osteoarthritis in future. However long term results are very important before wd can generalise outcomes. Platelet

The experts felt Rich Plasma is a good and proven way to slow down many pathologies in the knee. However it was observed that the failures were due to deformity being severe, experts in joint pathology not being involved and proper indications not being followed. Osteotomies, minimal invasive fixations and angle corrections were the other new modalities in joint preservation, which were discussed at the Seminar.

Kyndryl Survey Reveals Mainframe Modernization is Driving More Than $12B Collective Cost Savings for Those Surveyed

Bengaluru15th September 2023— Kyndryl (NYSE: KD), the world’s largest IT infrastructure services provider, today unveiled the findings of its inaugural global survey and analysis of the current and future state of mainframe modernization for businesses. The survey among 500 business and IT leaders finds that most organizations are taking a hybrid approach to mainframe modernization, and the respondents reported collectively achieving $12.5B in cost savings.

In today´s competitive and fast-changing business environment where many leaders are reconsidering spending choices, enterprises are looking for ways to start or accelerate their mainframe modernization journey to drive increased efficiency, agility, and innovation. According to Kyndryl’s survey, as companies seek to transform their mainframe environment:

95% of respondents are moving at least some of their mainframe applications to cloud or distributed platforms, on average 37% of their workloads. Only 1% of respondents plan to move all workloads fully off the mainframe.
90% of respondents state the mainframe remains essential to their business operations due to its high levels of security, reliability, and performance, while having the flexibility to move to cloud platforms for efficiency.

Enterprises looking to update their mission-critical operations are approaching modernization in three ways – modernizing on the mainframe, integrating with the hyperscalers, or moving off to the cloud. Almost all respondents use a combination of approaches, by considering the capabilities of each platform and tailoring projects to their business and technical needs.

A key observation is that regardless of the chosen mainframe modernization approach, businesses report reduced costs and increased profitability by 9% to 11%. Average annual cost savings per organization are $25M, showing that mainframe modernization yields a positive return on investment. In addition to financial benefits, respondents indicate that transformation is fueling innovation by allowing them to take advantage of increased scalability and faster time to market.

Kyndryl’s survey uncovers that respondents share a common concern about security, no matter what transformation path they choose. Security is the most important factor noted (49%) in defining an organization’s transformation strategy. At the same time, it is one of the most crucial elements for the success of a mainframe modernization project and the most popular topic for training and upskilling. Concerns about declining mainframe skills are also cited as a major challenge for more than half of the organizations surveyed, and this skills gap represents job opportunities for rising technical talent. In fact, 74% of respondents say they rely on external firms to support them on the transformation due to their skills challenges.

“Our survey reveals that mainframes increasingly become an integral part of hybrid cloud environments and continue to drive business value. However, the lack of a skilled workforce to support and secure these mission-critical environments is a significant cause of anxiety for many businesses,” said Petra Goude, Global Practice Leader for Core Enterprise & zCloud at Kyndryl. “Finding a trusted advisor and integrator with deep expertise and experience is key to success – no matter where organizations are on their journey and how they aim to execute their transformation. The survey shows that maintaining the status quo is not a path to modernization or growth.”

Kyndryl commissioned Coleman Parkes Research to survey 500 decision-makers including CTO/CIOs, IT Directors and Business Leaders from enterprises across all industries and government, of different sizes, with different levels of dependency on the mainframe, and at different points in their modernization journey.

To learn more about the insights gathered on how respondents view mainframe transformation and application modernization, as well as the challenges, risks, and benefits related to their initiatives, go to: Kyndryl´s 2023 State of Mainframe Modernization Survey Report.

Boosting Your Immunity and Nourishing Your Skin: The Athlete’s Guide to Skincare

Boosting Your Immunity and Nourishing Your Skin

As India celebrated the National Sports Day on Tuesday, August 29th, it’s important to shed light on a crucial aspect often overlooked amidst the realm of athleticism – skincare. The skin, being the body’s largest organ, plays a pivotal role in an athlete’s overall health and performance. This special day honors the spirit of competition, dedication, and athleticism, and what better way to honor it than by delving into the world of athlete skincare.

In the fast-paced lives of athletes, where training and performance take the spotlight, skincare routines often find themselves relegated to the background. However, neglecting proper skincare can lead to potential skin issues such as breakouts, dryness, and sun damage, all of which can significantly impact an athlete’s well-being. Through this article, Cetaphil Skincare Experts delve into the science of athlete skincare, offering practical tips that merge skin health with immune system support.

The Science Behind Athlete Skin:

It revolves around the intricate interactions between physical activity and skin physiology. Engaging in sports leads to complex changes in the body, such as better blood flow, higher body heat, and more sweating. This sweat contains various compounds, including salts and waste products, which can impact the skin’s pH and moisture balance. [i]These factors contribute to unique skin challenges that athletes must address:

  • Hydration and Skin Barrier Resilience: Extended periods of sweating without adequate hydration can compromise the skin’s natural protective barrier, resulting in dryness, flakiness, and heightened sensitivity. Furthermore, sensitive skin develops as a result of UV exposure, stress, pollution, and other factors that damage the skin barrier, allowing moisture to escape. In such instances, Cetaphil offers a potent solution including active substances such as Niacinamide (Vitamin B3), Panthenol (Vitamin B5), and Glycerin. These ingredients act together to protect the skin from irritants, preserve moisture, and enhance all classes of ceramides, thereby enhancing the skin barrier function.
  • Combatting Acne and Blemishes: The amalgamation of sweat, dirt, bacteria, and dead skin cells can congest pores, leading to acne and blemishes.
  • Shielding Against Environmental Impact: Outdoor training exposes athletes to harmful UV rays, which can accelerate skin damage, premature aging, and even skin cancer.
  • Maintaining Microbial Balance: Warm and moist environments fostered by sweating create an ideal breeding ground for harmful microbes, potentially triggering fungal or bacterial infections.

Crafting an Athlete-Focused Skincare Routine:

Due to the combination of sweat, friction, and prolonged exposure to moisture that results in skin irritation, chafing, and even acne breakouts, it is important to understand that these mechanisms highlight the importance of tailored skincare routines for athletes. Amidst the demands of their training regimens, one should aim at maintaining the skin’s protective barrier, preventing infections, and promoting overall skin health. Here are a few simple steps one must follow to maintain a good and healthy skincare routine:

  • Cleansing with Care: Regular cleansing rids the skin of sweat, dirt, and bacteria that can obstruct pores. Opt for a gentle, sulfate-free cleanser to preserve the skin’s natural oils.
  • Mindful Exfoliation: Exfoliating once or twice weekly eliminates dead skin cells, preventing pore blockages. Opt for a mild exfoliant to avert skin irritation.
  • Hydration Essentials: Nourish the skin with a lightweight, non-comedogenic moisturizer to preserve moisture balance without congesting pores.
  • Sun Protection Partner: Prior to outdoor activities, apply Cetaphil Sun SPF 50+ Gel, a broad-spectrum sunscreen, to shield the skin against UV rays effectively.
  • Post-Workout TLC (Tender Love & Care): Swiftly cleanse the skin post-workout to eliminate sweat and bacteria. Show your skin some extra love after hitting the gym, ensuring it’s free from impurities that can build up during exercise. A quick cleanse post-workout not only refreshes your skin but also contributes to maintaining its natural glow and overall well-being.

Interplay Between Immunity and Skin Health:

The skin acts as a shield, safeguarding against detrimental microorganisms and environmental elements, while immunity functions as the body’s vigilant guardian. The synergy between the immune system and the skin highlights the significance of skincare in enhancing immunity:

  • Quality Sleep: Optimal sleep enables the body to rejuvenate skin cells, amplifying the immune system’s responsiveness.
  • Stress Harmonization: Chronic stress can compromise the immune system and worsen skin conditions. Embrace relaxation practices like meditation and deep breathing.
  • Moderate Exercise: While exercise is an immunity ally, excessive training can weaken the immune system. Strike a balance between intense workouts and adequate recuperation.

Athletes embracing comprehensive skincare practices are not only elevating their aesthetic appearance but also augmenting their immunity and overall well-being. By merging informed skincare with a focus on balanced nutrition, hydration, and personalized routines, athletes can cultivate radiant, robust skin that aligns with their on-field and off-field endeavors. Therefore, nurturing both aspects through a balanced lifestyle, proper skincare, and a strong immune system is key to maintaining optimal overall well-being.
