Chennai: Twenty police officers and personnel from Tamil Nadu have been selected for the President’s Police Medals for Independence Day 2026, recognising their distinguished and meritorious service to the police force.
Of the 20 awardees, three have been chosen for the President’s Medal for Distinguished Service (PSM), while 17 will receive the Medal for Meritorious Service (MSM). The honours recognise sustained dedication, professional excellence and significant contributions to policing and public service.
The three recipients of the President’s Medal for Distinguished Service are K. Ramachandran, Additional Superintendent of Police, Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Virudhunagar; J. Vijai Anand, Additional Superintendent of Police, ‘Q’ Branch CID Headquarters, Chennai; and S. Kumar, Assistant Commandant, Tamil Nadu Special Police IX Battalion, Manimuthar.
Among those selected for the Medal for Meritorious Service are Additional SP M. Somasundaram, Additional SP K. Shivashankar, Additional SP P. Govindaraju, DSP S. Shanmugam and Assistant Commandant S. Manimaran, along with other personnel from different ranks and units.
The announcements were made ahead of the 80th Independence Day, with the national police honours recognising personnel who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to duty and maintained high standards of service over their careers.
Separately, 15 Tamil Nadu police officers and personnel were selected for the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s Police Medals for Independence Day 2026. Ten were recognised for special investigation and five for public service.
The awards underline the contribution of Tamil Nadu’s police personnel to maintaining law and order, strengthening investigations and delivering public service across the state.
