The meeting comes as efforts continue at the Centre to facilitate a mutually acceptable framework for sharing Mahanadi river waters between the two neighbouring states.
Centre Steps Up Mediation Efforts
The Central Water Commission (CWC) has been involved in discussions between Odisha and Chhattisgarh as both sides explore options to address the contentious water-sharing issue.
The latest meeting is expected to provide an opportunity for the two states to discuss their respective positions and work towards a possible formula for water distribution.
Odisha Advocate General said discussions between the two sides have continued and efforts are now focused on finding a workable solution through dialogue.
Odisha Confident of Resolution
Odisha Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari said the state government remains positive about the proposed meeting and expressed confidence that the long-pending dispute can be resolved through discussions.
He also said that by the time the present Odisha government assumed office, Chhattisgarh had already constructed barrages on the Mahanadi.
The meeting assumes significance as the two states continue to seek a way forward on the sharing and management of Mahanadi waters, with both governments expected to place their concerns before the Centre.
