Bangalore, 11th July 2023: In an unprecedented move towards a greener future, Java Capital and Capital A successfully co-hosted the world’s first 24-hour Pitchathon, Climathon’23, exclusively for climate-tech startups. The pitch then received over 500 applications, of which 37 unique startups were shortlisted to present their climate tech solutions and ideas. The most promising ones could secure up to $1 million in investment.

The panel, comprising representatives from both VC funds, including Ankit Kedia (Founder of Capital A) and Aswani Chaitanya (VP of Investments from Capital A), along with Vinod Shankar, Bhargavi V, and Karteek Pulapaka (Co-Founders and Partners at Java Capital), diligently reviewed the pitches.

Climathon’23 went beyond the traditional pitch event, providing a platform for climate-tech founders from all over India to showcase their sustainable solutions and dedication to combating climate change. The event attracted a diverse range of participants, including both first-time founders and seasoned professionals. They all shared a common goal of building upon their years of experience in various domains, which encompassed Energy Transition, Advanced/Alternate Materials, Circular Economy/Waste Management, Climate Finance, Agriculture/Food Systems, Green Buildings/Construction, Carbon Capture & Storage, Mobility, and Transport.

The iconic Hotel welcomed Chef Thomas Bühner – the face of German gastronomy – from the former 3 Michelin-starred restaurant La Vie to present his curation of ‘down to earth’ flavours.

Known for his mastery of flavours, Chef Thomas Bühner earned the first Michelin star for La Table Restaurant in Dortmund in 1991, followed by a second one 1998. Today, Osnabrück, in Germany’s North Western corner, houses one of Germany’s best restaurants – La Vie which is run by Chef Bühner and his wife Thayarni Kanagaratnam. In 2010 La Vie was granted membership of ‘Les Grandes Tables du Monde’ and in 2011, Chef Bühner was awarded with a third Michelin star of his career.

The Chef’s curated menu at The Chambers presented a symphony of flavours in an array of delicacies, masterfully paired with a fine selection of beverages. The five-course dining experience included ‘down to earth’ flavours in Imperial Caviar, Water kefir, Melon; Lobster, Parsley Root Muesli, Litschi; Smoked Tofu, Fermented Chive, Hamachi; Potato Foam, Curry Ice Cream; Juniper Smoked Lamb, Vegetable Jus, Kumquat, Butternut pumpkin; Tanariva Lactee Chocolate, Marinated Cherries and Mulled Wine Sorbet.
