Meghalaya Shines at 7th North East Youth Festival, Secures Top Honors

Mumbai / Shillong, Meghalaya, 2nd March’24: The Meghalaya contingent, led by Shri Bobby Wahlang, Youth Coordinator of Meghalaya, Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, returned home after a triumphant performance at the 7th North East Youth Festival held in Agartala, Tripura. The festival, held from February 26th to 29th, witnessed vibrant cultural exchanges and competitions among young people from across the Northeast region.

The Meghalaya contingent, comprising 76 young individuals from 11 districts, left their mark on the festival, demonstrating exceptional talent and dedication. They secured a well-deserved victory in the Rock Band category, showcasing their musical prowess and stage presence.

Their success extended beyond the winning performance of being adjudged the winners in the Rock Band category. The contingent secured an impressive set of first runner-up positions in Folk Dance, Folk Song, One Act Play, Painting, Photography, and Solo Guitar. These achievements highlight the diverse artistic and cultural talents present within the youth of Meghalaya.

Additionally, the participants at the festival were winners in the Meghalaya Youth Exchange Program 2023 in their respective categories, which took place at Nehu Campus from October 17th to 20th, 2023.

The remarkable performance by the Meghalaya contingent has brought immense pride to the state. Their dedication and talent serve as an inspiration for young people across Meghalaya, demonstrating the power of cultural exchange and artistic expression.

The Festival also witnessed the attendance of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tripura, Dr. Manik Saha and Hon’ble Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Department, Shri Tinku Roy, amongst others.

BPTP to Sponsor a Half Marathon in Faridabad on March 3, 2024

Faridabad- The Haryana Tourism Department in Faridabad is organizing a half-marathon on March 3, 2024, commencing from Surajkund premises and returning from the Asian Hospital in the city, with BPTP as the titanium sponsor of this marathon. BPTP, a renowned real estate developer from Delhi-NCR, has joined hands with the community to promote fitness and well-being through this marathon. The Chief Minister of the State, Manohar Lal, will be the chief guest at the half marathon and will encourage the runners. Thousands of people will participate in various categories of the marathon. According to Satbir Maan, the CEO of the District Council, medical camps will be set up every 2 km along the marathon route for the convenience of the runners. These camps will also provide runners with facilities like energy drinks and mobile toilets. Volunteers will also be on duty along the marathon route to ensure runners do not face any inconvenience. Police personnel will also be deployed every 150 to 200 meters. Furthermore, students of all schools and colleges in Faridabad and Gurugram have been encouraged to participate in this marathon.

EDII empowers women artisans of MP’s Badarwas Jacket Cluster through specialised training

Bhopal, March 2, 2024: The Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII) is providing specialised skill training to women artisans of Madhya Pradesh’s Badarwas Jacket Cluster, famous for making ‘Modi Jackets from mill surplus’. The institute has partnered with the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Gandhinagar, to equip the women artisans from the region with necessary tools and knowledge to enhance their craftsmanship and foster economic development within the cluster.

The Badarwas Jacket Cluster, distinguished by its unique and organic growth, has emerged as a vibrant hub with many engaged in jacket production and related activities. Unlike conventional industrial hubs, this cluster has organically blossomed from the sheer grit and dedication of its female workforce. Recognizing the need to further enhance the cluster’s capabilities and capitalize on increasing demand for jackets, Ministry of Rural Development, GoI, promoted a Producers’ Company under National Rural Economic Transformation Project which is owned and managed by women artisans of Badarwas, thus giving them an opportunity to becoming shareholders of their company.

EDII is implementing this cluster development project in association with Madhya Pradesh Rural Livelihoods Mission.

“This initiative by Ministry of Rural Development goes beyond skill training. It empowers the women through the establishment of a Producers Company, owned and managed by them. This significant step transforms them from mere job workers into entrepreneurs and shareholders in their own company, fostering self-reliance and economic independence.” explained Dr. Sunil Shukla, Director General, EDII.

Scheduled from February 13 to 18, 2024, a training programme on ‘quality appreciation’, salesmanship, and visual merchandising was organized at EDII Campus for 19 women artisans from the Badarwas Cluster. It offered a dynamic platform for participants to enhance their skills and knowledge. The comprehensive curriculum covered fabric manufacturing intricacies, sales marketing strategies, and brand building essentials.

During the four-day practical sessions at the NIFT campus, participants underwent rigorous training on fabric checks, quality parameters, and packaging techniques.

It was followed by, a two-day training module at the EDII campus will delve into entrepreneurship basics, costing and pricing strategies, sales techniques, resource mobilisation, and compliance management.

Dr. Rajesh Gupta, Project Director and Faculty, EDII, said, “By leveraging the expertise of NIFT, we aim to enhance the skill sets of these women artisans and provide them with the necessary tools to become successful entrepreneurs in the long run. We believe that empowering women artisans with the right skills is key to unlocking the full potential of the Badarwas Jacket Cluster.”

Union Bank of India successfully raised ₹ 3,000 Crore Equity Capital via Qualified Institutions Placement (QIP)

Union Bank of India, one of the largest Public Sector Banks in India, has successfully raised equity capital of ₹ 3,000 crore via Qualified Institutions Placement (QIP) on February 26, 2024. The Issue was opened on February 20, 2024 and received strong interest from high quality Domestic and Foreign Portfolio Investors. Bank has allotted 22.11 crore Shares at price of ₹ 135.65 per share (including premium of ₹ 125.65 per share) aggregating to ₹ 3,000 crore representing a discount of approximately 5% to the floor price determined as per Regulatory guidelines.

Bank has received significant & encouraging response from the market & seen participation by a diversified investor base which includes Banks, Asset Management Companies, Insurance Companies and Foreign Portfolio Investors, thereby ensuring diversification of the shareholder base of Union Bank of India.

On the Successful capital raising, Ms. A Manimekhalai, MD & CEO, says “We are delighted to conclude one of the largest equity capital raising issue in public sector banking space in the recent past.
