OPPO’s Reno12 Series Sets a New AI Benchmark

4th July 2024  New Delhi, Delhi, India  OPPO India is poised to launch ‘Your Everyday AI Companion’, the Reno12 5G, and the Reno12 Pro 5G. Both devices pack cameras backed by artificial intelligence-based features—AI Best Face, AI Eraser 2.0, AI Studio, and AI Clear Face—that eliminate the need for photo editing for pro-grade results.

The Reno12 Series, which underscores OPPO’s commitment to making AI available across its smartphone lineup, also integrates AI Summary, AI Record Summary, AI Clear Voice, AI Writer and AI Speak into the smartphones’ functionalities to streamline productivity tasks.

Gen AI in Photography

If you ever clicked a photograph with your friends and family only to have that perfect moment ruined by a photobomber in the background, then OPPO’s AI Eraser 2.0 is the feature for you; it removes background distractions at the touch of a button. The AI Eraser 2.0’s diffusion model has been trained on billions of public domain images to offer up to 98% image recognition accuracy. With its ability to recognize human beings and almost any everyday object—whether a trash can or a lamp post—AI Eraser uses Generative AI to remove distractions and fill that space with results that rival professional editing software.

Putting your best foot forward with the perfect headshot for your LinkedIn profile no longer requires photo-editing software. The Reno12 Series introduces AI Perfect Shot, a suite of AI-powered features that work together to deliver stunning pictures. At the heart of this technology is AI Clear Face, an industry-leading technology that portrays every person clearly and vividly in group photos as if they were the main character. Unlike traditional facial optimization, AI Clear Face uses independently trained large models to generate high-definition details of facial textures, hair, eyebrows and more.

How often have you shot a group photo only to realize that one person had their eyes closed? OPPO’s AI Best Face features help you create the perfect shot through its recognition of human faces, and expressions, and its ability to turn closed eyes into open.

Together, these features elevate regular pictures to professional-looking shots that retain natural beauty while optimizing light and shadow areas, without complex photo-editing tools.

The Reno 12 Series’ AI Studio feature adds a touch of fun to the photography experience by letting you transform any photo into a digital avatar. Be it a cowboy or a cyberpunk hero, AI Studio empowers you to let your imagination run wild and uses the latest Generative AI technology to recreate images in different styles.

All these AI capabilities leverage OPPO’s extensive experience in deploying AI at the core of the photography experience. From advanced tone mapping algorithms that enhance light, colour, and texture with a touch of drama to AI denoising that incorporates OIS and all-pixel omnidirectional PDAF to eliminate motion blur, the latest imaging advancements are seamlessly integrated into the photo capture process.

OPPO’s facial-recognition algorithms can even detect and enhance up to 296 facial features in real time to reduce blemishes and improve complexions based on skin tone, age, and gender.

Smart AI Productivity

Designed as an everyday AI companion, OPPO enhances user productivity with the built-in AI Toolbox, powered by the Google Gemini LLM. It includes utilities like AI Writer, AI Summary, and AI Speak, all designed to make tedious tasks easier and quicker.

From writing professional emails to summarising the minutes of a meeting, the smartphone lends a helping hand to enhance everyday use cases. Never miss out on critical information again. AI Summary makes grasping information quicker by providing concise summaries and highlights of lengthy content such as reports and online articles. Additionally, it can pinpoint crucial dates and essential terms, ensuring you stay informed and up to date.

The Reno12 Series’ AI Recording Summary saves time by summarising daily office meetings. You can record meetings—in English and Hindi—as long as five hours and use the onboard AI to generate notes, summaries, and transcripts at the touch of a button.

The AI Writer seamlessly integrates into everyday workflows to elevate communication. The feature completes sentences to speed up replying to office communication or offers word suggestions and grammar correction so that you can focus on what matters.

AI-based Efficiency

The Reno12 Series employs AI to keep you connected with loved ones, even in tough network situations. AI Clear Voice utilizes advanced algorithms to reduce background noise by up to 40dB while enhancing human voices. This ensures clear conversations on standard, WhatsApp and Zoom calls, even in noisy places like concerts and festivals.

Another feature, AI LinkBoost identifies data types—messages, photos, and videos—to optimize network use and cut data lag by up to 25%. This means you can communicate seamlessly even in bustling places like concerts and festivals. With intelligent diversion technology, AI LinkBoost accelerates sharing by 25% and minimizes stutter and video lag.

The OPPO Reno12 Series also harnesses the power of AI to improve battery life. Through OPPO’s Trinity Engine, it identifies each app’s computational demands and adjusts the processor’s power consumption accordingly. This real-time optimization ensures maximum efficiency, extending battery longevity and minimizing lag during everyday use. Both devices in the OPPO Reno12 Series also pack large 80W 5000mAh batteries with SUPERVOOCTM Flash Charge that is juiced to 100% in just 46 minutes. Additionally, OPPO’s Smart Charging, backed by AI and machine learning, adapts to your charging habits to provide safer and more efficient charging to preserve the battery’s longevity and maintain peak performance for over four years of normal use. Specific optimizations for popular games, improved network scheduling, and intelligent background management collectively reduce power usage and extend battery life significantly.

With the Reno12 Series, OPPO introduces its BeaconLink technology that provides a dependable fallback during network outages. It allows seamless one-to-one voice calls via Bluetooth in no-network environments such as underground garages, concerts, music festivals, and remote countryside settings.

Finally, OPPO’s RAM-Vitalization technology enhances app startup and switching speeds by retaining up to five apps in memory for 72 hours. ROM-Vitalization—integrated into the Trinity Engine—compresses infrequently accessed data, potentially saving up to 20GB on a 256GB phone.

Your Everyday AI Companion

OPPO continues its dedication to democratizing access to AI on smartphones with ‘Your Everyday AI Companion’, the Reno12 Series. It integrates OPPO’s latest AI Imaging advancements and GenAI features, setting a new standard in India by offering comprehensive AI capabilities within its price range.

OPPO holds over 5,399 AI-related patents worldwide, including 3,796 utility patents in AI imaging. Since 2020, OPPO has pioneered the deployment of its proprietary Large Language Models (LLMs), including a groundbreaking seven billion-parameter LLM directly on smartphones.

Even’s AI Health Chatbot wants to Fight Medical Misinformation Caused by Social Media

 Caused by Social Media

4th July 2024 Bengaluru, Karnataka, India Bengaluru-based healthcare startup, Even has launched its AI health chatbot, Even Steven that offers verified health advice on any topic a user can think of. Positioned as a healthcare companion, Even Steven can offer health advice, read and analyze medical reports, design an exercise or diet plan based on your medical history, tell you the nutritional value of a food by sharing a picture, and much more.

“We think AI can play a unique role in giving everyone access to the best health advice in an affordable and convenient way. That is one of our core objectives at Even and with this chatbot we are taking a significant first step in this direction. Of course AI and LLMs in the medical domain still have limitations and the right guardrails need to be in place, that is why the answers provided by our chatbot are vetted by experienced doctors, but we also think it is necessary to find effective ways to empower doctors to engage patients and stay on top of their progress. We think AI has great potential especially when it comes to managing patient’s care in a continuous and personalised way,” says Alessandro Ialonge, Even’s Co-founder and CTO.

Even Steven is free to use for all WhatsApp users

Even focuses heavily on primary care including 24×7 access to experienced doctors who can offer reliable medical advice to control symptoms, reach a health goal, or manage lifelong chronic conditions such as Diabetes.

“Our members love our doctors who can offer trusted and reliable medical advice that is rooted in experience and evidence from around the world. It then made sense to us to scale that with the power of AI so that even the general public can have a single source of information rather than scrolling through thousands of videos by non-experts creating misleading medical content for views and likes,” says Mati Giglio, Co-founder and COO at Even.

Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) found that nearly one-third of the top health-related articles shared on social media contained misinformation. Moreover, a study in the Journal of Health Communication found that individuals frequently exposed to health information online often experience information overload, leading to confusion and difficulty in making informed health decisions.

Beta users particularly like the fact that it makes small healthcare decisions very easily.

Karan Issar, an early user says “I didn’t expect much out of Even Steven, given there are so many AI bots out there. But I was pleasantly surprised. It tracked my macros correctly. I just had to share a picture. It read my reports correctly. I had already shown them to my doctor first to cross-check. I am trying to get into an exercise routine and it made a simple to follow plan. It remembered my medical condition (through reports shared) and helped me avoid certain foods too. I am hooked.”

“Patients today are more informed and often do their research before consulting a doctor. However, they sometimes come across unverified information on social media. It’s important to guide them towards reliable sources. Steven empowers patients for better consultations,” says Dr. Binita Priyambada, Even’s Medical Director.

Even clarifies that Steven is not a replacement to doctors but a safer alternative to internet searches about medical information.

Even is a leading pan-India healthcare provider that offers members unlimited online access to its doctors and specialists, cashless tests and scans at Even clinics and partner facilities across India plus an option to add an insurance cover of up to 1 crore for cashless hospitalisation.

Sri Ramakrishna Hospital’s Expert Hematologists Decode The Critical Role of Blood Components and Myths of Blood Cancers

4th July 2024  Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India  The hematology experts at Sri Ramakrishna Hospital share insights into the cells of the human body, their roles, and how their imbalance can impact overall functioning while debunking a few common myths about blood cancers.

Human body is a fascinating concept and consists of several minute cells that hold the body together. The hematology experts at Sri Ramakrishna Hospital offer insights to these little components that play a major role in the functioning of the human body.

Human body is filled with about 5 liters of blood and this blood is known to circulate the whole body carrying oxygen and removing toxins. Human blood is usually a mix of blood cells and plasma. Plasma consists majorly of water and also contains proteins, fats, glucose, and salts. The blood is built of three main cells red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets.

Red blood cells:

Red blood cells (RBCs) are medically termed the erythrocytes. Their major role is to transport oxygen from the lungs to all other parts of the body and return carbon dioxide through exhalation. The optimal level of RBCs has to be maintained for stamina and energy.

The ideal level of red blood cells in males is 13-16.5 gm/dL, while in females it is about 12.5-16 gm/dL. When there is a change in these levels it can cause disruptions in your daily life.

When RBC count in the human body is lower than normal it is called anemia, and hematology experts state that about 70% of the Indian population is anemic. Anemia is a condition that is most commonly reported in women especially during their menstrual cycle. Anemia can cause visible symptoms that include:

  • Pale skin
  • Tiredness even with minimal activity
  • Shortness of breath
  • Dizziness
  • Heart palpitations
  • Headaches
  • Ringing in ears (not quite common)

When the blood levels decrease further below the range, it can cause,

  • Leg swelling
  • Abdominal swelling

The hemoglobin levels can gradually decrease over time and do not occur abruptly.

White blood cells:

White blood cells are called the “police force of the body” and are a part of the immune system. They are known to fight infections in the body when a foreign particle enters the human body, a flight or fight response is triggered by the immune system where the white blood cells attack and destroy by producing antibodies against the foreign particle.

There are five major types of white blood cells called,

  • Neutrophils
  • Lymphocytes
  • Eosinophils
  • Basophils
  • Monocytes

Each cell has a different purpose and serves to help the body in several ways. The optimal level of white blood cells is about 4000 to 11000 cells in both men and women. When there is a decrease in their levels it can lead to a condition called leukopenia. Few common symptoms of leukopenia:

  • Constant infections
  • Recurrent Fever

But when the levels of WBC increase than the optimal range it can lead to different types of cancers like leukemia or lymphoma, which is a common type of blood cancer. In people with these types of cancer they can notice symptoms like,

  • Constant fever
  • Swelling of lymph nodes in neck, under arm, or groin region
  • Weight loss
  • Loss of appetite
  • Excessive sweats especially during night

Regarding blood cancers, most people have a misconception that people with blood cancers may experience blood vomiting as an initial sign but blood vomiting in case of cancer occurs only in the last stage and might be seen in most cancer patients.

Platelets:

These are the blood clotting cells. When these cells count decrease an individual may experience constant bleeding and red spots all over the body.

These cells have to be in the optimal range as either increase or decrease in their levels can cause multiple issues in the human body. The hematology experts at Sri Ramakrishna Hospital suggest undergoing a complete blood count test every 3-6 months to monitor the levels and seek prompt treatment in case of any deviations.

Understanding the roles of red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets is important to diagnose and treat several disorders including cancers. While blood-related cancers can be challenging to diagnose as they pose common symptoms of several other health issues. Paying close attention to changes a person experiences is important for a timely diagnosis.
