Covestro and Deloitte jointly develop Monetization Framework for Circular Economy

Covestro is focusing on the entire value chain to create value for customers for accelerating the circular economy and also a monetization framework that enables investments in the circular economy. Innovation Projects and Circular Solutions that receive investment must be economically viable. This can only be achieved through the interplay of consumers, producers, regulation, and technical solutions. To achieve this, new approaches to the market launch of products and solutions are needed, as well as the development of employee skills and expertise.

To this end, Covestro and Monitor Deloitte 2023 launched a joint project entitled “Monetize Circular Economy”. This collaboration enabled Covestro to incorporate relevant methods and external perspectives into the entire development process.

The project pursued two main objectives. Firstly, to develop a scalable framework for market entry and commercialization of more sustainable, circular products and solutions. Secondly, to create added value in partnership. This includes, for example, developing solutions with customers so that they in turn can create added value for their customers with more sustainable solutions. These are, for example, working out end customer-relevant purchasing arguments or jointly implementing increasing sustainability standards. Covestro’s projects from various business entities formed the basis for developing a model.

A joint project team consisting of employees from various Covestro business entities and a mixed team from Deloitte led by chemicals expert Kai Göbel and Dr. Amadeus Petzke, Head of Pricing & Monetization, initially collected concrete projects on circular solutions across the Group. Three selected pilot projects formed the basis for the development of a marketing and business development approach that serves both as a blueprint for monetizing Covestro’s circular products and for new business development at Deloitte.

“Circular solutions must be profitable to be implemented. Economic incentives that motivate or demotivate stakeholders must be clearly identified and addressed. For this, we need circular thinking, deep market understanding, and the creativity of our employees. We need a robust framework that our colleagues can use as a guide to drive business development in the circular economy. We are continuously developing this framework,” says Sucheta Govil, Chief Commercial Officer at Covestro.

WirtschaftsWoche 2024 has now honored this approach with the Best of Consulting Award in the Chemicals, Pharma & Healthcare sector.

Value creation cycle as the key

A decisive factor in monetization is the integration of the entire value chain, away from individual value creation steps and towards thinking in terms of a circular economy. “It’s not just about selling circular products, but about creating sustainable added value along the value chain together with partners and customers. Designing a framework based on specific Covestro industrial projects from start to finish was an exciting project. Winning the award is a great accolade and shows that we have succeeded,” says Bozidar Radner, Deloitte’s global key account manager for Covestro and Sector Head Chemicals. The management consultancy Deloitte was able to draw on extensive customer experience and requests from previous projects and learnings.

Development of the framework

Over one hundred Covestro employees identified key requirements for the monetization of circular solutions. In a structured approach consisting of four lab phases with coaching and review meetings in between, the teams successfully drove the pilot projects forward; at the same time, the insights gained led to the further development of the framework. Methodologies, case studies and their importance, as well as the correct sequencing of a project’s progression, were explored and refined over the course of the project, with real circular economy pilots forming the basis. An overarching project team from Covestro and Deloitte developed an internal platform for Covestro that provides resources, best practices, and tools such as ideas for customer outreach and legal guidelines for all Covestro business entities.

The result: a structured approach to accelerate the commercialization of circular solutions. This also includes raising awareness among the workforce. An accompanying webinar series, for example, promotes global exchange with internal circular economy (CE) experts and drives the further development of the market entry and commercialization strategy. In concrete terms, implementing the monetization approach in the operational business also means incorporating the circular economy mindset into the initial customer exchange and jointly identifying added value and developing solutions in partnership-based customer discussions. For example, there are “Monetize CE Pioneers”, a group of employees at Covestro who are available to colleagues around the world and who exchange information on their specialist areas and contribute their knowledge of various industries.

The vision of the circular economy and successful monetization are thus continuously developed.

The Impact of Age on Fertility: What You Need to Know

By Dr. Shalini Singh, Consultant Fertility, Ankura Hospital for Women and Children

Conception is a complex process influenced by age, genetics, lifestyle, and environment. Understanding how age affects fertility is crucial for those considering starting or expanding their family. According to Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), Government of India, publication titled ‘Women and Men in India 2023’ – It is evident that from 2016 to 2020, Age Specific Fertility Rate in the age group of 20-24 and 25-29 has reduced from 135.4 and 166.0 to 113.6 and 139.6 respectively. The ASFR (Age-Specific Fertility Rate) for the age 35-39 for the above period has increased from 32.7 to 35.6 which shows the demand for fertility later in life. This trend encourages a review of male and female fertility with age, factors to be considered and possible options to ensure a healthy offspring at an elder age.

This article explores the impact of age on fertility in men and women, the reasons behind these changes, and ways to enhance reproductive health.

How Age Impacts Fertility in Women and Men

Age significantly affects fertility in both genders, with more pronounced effects in women. Understanding these changes is crucial for those trying to conceive, as fertility gradually declines with age, though the patterns differ.

Female Fertility and Age: Women’s fertility is primarily determined by the number and quality of eggs, which decrease with age. Women are born with a finite number of eggs, which slowly diminish with age. Fertility starts to decline after age 30, with a sharper drop after 35, leading to lower conception chances and increased risks of miscarriage and Aneuploidies. Indian women by age 40, experience significant reduction in fertility due to fewer and poorer-quality eggs, along with changes in uterus and associated medical comorbidities.

Male Fertility and Age: Men experience a more gradual decline in fertility with age. While sperm count may decrease, it typically remains sufficient for conception. Additionally, poor lifestyle, Obesity, Diabetes can affect sex drive and sperm production.

The Impact of Lifestyle Choices on Fertility

Lifestyle choices significantly affect fertility at any age. Key factors include:

Nutrition: A balanced diet rich in vitamins and minerals is essential. Women should prioritize folic acid and antioxidants, while men need zinc and vitamin C for sperm health. Maintaining a healthy weight and limiting alcohol and caffeine are also crucial.

Physical Activity: Regular exercise promotes a healthy weight and overall well-being, especially in women. A balanced routine is important.

Stress management: stress in any form physical mental emotional can affect your chances of conceiving.

Smoking and Drinking: Both smoking and heavy drinking negatively impact fertility. Smoking reduces egg quality in women and sperm count in men, while alcohol can disrupt ovulation and sperm movement.

Environmental Toxins: Exposure to harmful substances like pesticides and heavy metals can affect fertility. Minimizing contact with these toxins is vital, particularly for women trying to conceive.

Delayed Parenthood

Many couples are choosing to delay having children for personal, educational, and career reasons, aided by advancements in fertility options like in vitro fertilization (IVF) and egg freezing. While these technologies offer flexibility,Fertility Options, IVF and egg freezing allow women to preserve their eggs at a younger age, potentially increasing future pregnancy success rates. However, the effectiveness of these methods declines significantly as a woman ages. So informed decision making and timely intervention may help you reap the benefits of technology in a better way. It cannot be emphasised more that age is very important factor in IVF success rate also.

Maximizing Fertility at Any Age

Age impacts fertility, but you can enhance reproductive health by: life style changes, taking charge of your mental and physical health, regularly taking your supplements. Women over 30 should consult a fertility expert for early tests on egg count and ovarian health. IVF can help reduce time taken to pregnancy if natural methods don’t work.

Women who want to delay motherhood can explore egg freezing to safeguard future fertility. Adopting Healthy Habits Eating well, avoiding harmful substances, managing stress, and maintaining a healthy weight can boost fertility.

The Nuclear Family – Housing India’s Millennials

By Akash Pharande, Managing Director – Pharande Spaces

Young, dual-income nuclear families and single professionals just beginning their careers are the driving forces of urban India today. In 2022, nearly half of Indian households consisted of 1 to 4 members, marking a significant rise in nuclear families from just 37% in 2008. By 2024, it is likely that this proportion has surpassed the 50% threshold, with smaller family units dominating the demographic landscape.

The transition from joint families to nuclear ones signals a profound cultural shift. While joint families once offered financial predictability, elderly care, and shared responsibilities, modern nuclear families prioritize independence, personal growth, and global aspirations. This shift is reshaping India’s urban housing market.

The Evolution of the Indian Nuclear Family

What drives the rise of nuclear families?

  • Financial Independence: Youth today seek autonomy over their finances, aligning with modern lifestyles.
  • Freedom of Choice: Young couples prefer making life decisions without traditionalist interference, particularly when family elders control resources. While these families remain respectful of elder care, their close bonds with previous generations have loosened. They aim for growth without constraints, focusing on career advancement, family investment, and quality of life.
  • Modern Parenting: Parents wish to raise their children with contemporary values, often focusing on creating global citizens.

The Millennial Dream Home

For the millennial nuclear family, the definition of an ideal home has evolved. Here’s what they prioritize:

  • Space for Growth – Homes need to accommodate expanding families. A survey by Anarock found that 51% of homebuyers preferred 3BHK units over smaller 2BHKs, despite rising property prices.
  • Sustainability – with 84% of Indians aware of global warming (Yale Program on Climate Change Communication, 2022), eco-friendly homes are now in demand. Features like energy-efficient designs and green certifications are becoming essential.
  • Safety and Security – Rising urban crime rates drive families toward gated communities and integrated townships with robust security measures.
  • Technological Integration – Smart homes are gaining traction, with the Indian smart home market expected to reach $6.5 billion by 2024. However, it’s not just about gadgets—it’s about creating smarter living environments.

Smarter Housing for Smarter Families

For today’s nuclear families, housing is not just about a home; it’s about the lifestyle it supports. This has led to increased demand for integrated townships—self-sustaining communities offering residential, retail, healthcare, and entertainment facilities within a single complex.

Why Integrated Townships?

  • Lifestyle Solutions: These townships offer “walk-to-work” convenience, on-site amenities, and pollution-free environments, reducing reliance on crowded urban hubs.
  • Complete Ecosystems: They blend residential and commercial spaces, catering to the all-in-one lifestyle nuclear families seek.
  • Enhanced Connectivity: With expanding metro networks, suburban areas housing these townships are now more accessible and affordable.

Challenges in Meeting Demand

Despite their appeal, integrated townships remain niche offerings due to the following challenges:

  • Land Availability: Securing large, cohesive parcels of land is a daunting task for most developers.
  • Expertise: Designing a township requires proficiency in integrating diverse real estate segments like hospitals, malls, and housing.
  • Capital Intensive: Building such ecosystems demands substantial investment throughout the development lifecycle.

As nuclear families reshape India’s urban housing market, the demand for sustainable, secure, and smart homes continues to rise. Integrated townships represent the future of housing, offering holistic solutions tailored to the aspirations of modern families. However, with limited supply and high barriers to entry, the race to meet this demand will define the next phase of India’s real estate evolution.

Taj Mahal Sets a New Standard for Eco-Friendly Water Recycling in New Delhi

New Delhi, November 25, 2024: In a landmark step towards environmental stewardship, Taj Mahal, New Delhi, has introduced an advanced Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) for wastewater recycling, becoming one of the pioneers in India to implement chemical-free water treatment for laundry operations. Mr. Mahesh Bhagwath Highlights the Therapeutic Power of Dogs as Companions

Hyderabad, November 25, 2024-  Pedigree Pro HyCan’24 – A Grand pet show for Dogs, Cats, and Pet Lovers held in the city on Sunday at OM Convention at Narsingi in Hyderabad. It was organised by the Hyderabad Canine Club, which is dedicated to promoting the welfare of animals and responsible pet ownership through events that bring together the pet-loving community.

Mahesh Bhagwat graced as Chief Guest. He said that this was his second visit and his association with dogs goes back to his three-year stint with police dogs. He came to the expo along with Ume assault dog. I have thoroughly enjoyed this dog and cat show, he said. Unlike in the West, there are not many cat lovers in India. But, I am surprised to see so many varieties of cats on display at the show. Dogs are very good companions as families have shrunk and become nucleus. The dog is a stress buster, Mahesh Bhagwat said.

Dogs are used by police in Narcotics, in the detection of Explosives, Cadaver, Tracking, and Assault Operations. Dogs are super-powered. They can follow human scents (including people who are lost or hiding), and detect drugs, explosives and even human remains. Some police dogs are specially trained as arson dogs and can pick up scents or traces of accelerants in arson sites, he said. Police use cadaver dogs also known as human remains detection dogs, to find missing people and help solve criminal cases, he added. He congratulated the Hyderabad Canine Club for organising such a good show for the benefit of the pet lovers. Mr Bhagwat visited the show with a 4-year-old Ume Golden Retreat dog.

Ms. Hari Chandana, a bureaucrat also visited the show along with her family members.

Dr. M. Praveen Rao, President of Hyderabad Canine Club said the show was organised besides the regular shows and competitions, we wanted to create more awareness about responsible pet ownership. Through this show, we also want to help improve the quality of the breeds and standards. There are well over 150 breeds. And their standards must be improved, without which there is no meaning in developing more breeds, he opined.

Dr Praveen Rao added that Covid helped the pet industry to boom. Many started adopting pets. But, the sad part of it, a quite several pet parents abandoned pets after the covid got over.

Some rare breeds which participated in the show were Saluki (it is a standardised breed developed from sighthounds – dogs that hunt primarily by sight rather than strong scent); The Bichon Frise is a small, white dog breed with a curly coat that’s known for being affectionate, playful, and intelligent; American Bully(The American Bully is a modern breed of dog that was developed as a companion dog) and Hairy Dachshund (a short-legged, long-bodied, hound-type dog breed), Dr Praveen informed.

Mr Philip Bhatt the secretary of the club added that the show attracted five thousand visitors, 500 plus dogs and 100 plus cats. We have been creating a lot of awareness for responsible pet parenting, he said.

Salil Murthy, Managing Director, Mars Petcare India which is associated with Pedigree Pro HyCan’24 said “At Mars Petcare, we are driven by a simple yet profound belief: pets make the world better, and we strive to make the world better for pets. Events like Pedigree Pro HyCan’24 bring this vision to life, celebrating the unconditional bond between pets and their families while championing responsible pet care. Pedigree has been a proud partner of HyCan, one of the most established and renowned initiatives that celebrate the unique relationship between pets and pet parents. Through our ‘Be SAFE with Dogs’ initiative, we take a step further in building awareness and fostering safer, more inclusive communities where pets and people thrive together. By supporting HyCan’24, we reaffirm our commitment to creating a world where every pet is cared for, valued, and celebrated as part of the family.”

The show brought together pet enthusiasts, industry leaders, and families for a day filled with excitement, education, and celebration.

This year’s show was bigger and better. The Kennel Club of India Championship Dog Show and the Indian Cat Club Cat Show showcased the finest dogs and cats from across the country.

One more exotic and rare variety of the cat on display was the Thai Cat which costs Rs 75,000/- upwards.

Top 10 Breed Awards was held Featuring popular breeds like German Shepherds, Labradors, Golden Retrievers, and Shih Tzus in a specialty-style competition.

HyCan Groomania Grooming Competition was also held. It showcased some of India’s best groomers competing for top honours.

Pet Registration and Microchipping Campaigns was also held. It was a special drive to help dog owners register and microchip their pets for better identification and welfare.
