Childhood Cancer Survivor Welcomes Baby in a Rare Natural Birth at Manipal Hospital Mukundapur

Mumbai / Kolkata, 12th May 2025: In a remarkable story of resilience and medical triumph, a 35-year-old woman who had overcome ovarian cancer at the age of eight has delivered a healthy baby girl through natural conception under the expert care of Dr. Biswajyoti Guha, Consultant – Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Manipal Hospital, Mukundapur. This rare case marks Dr. Biswajyoti Guha and hospital’s third such delivery involving childhood ovarian cancer survivors, and the first to occur without assisted reproductive technology.

Poulomi Ghosh, a 35-year-old from Jadavapur, was referred to Manipal Hospital at 30 weeks of pregnancy with severe upper abdominal pain and a preliminary diagnosis of perforated appendix and appendicular lump. She had initially been admitted to another facility and was referred to a multispecialty setup for urgent delivery and possible surgery. Upon admission to Manipal Hospital, she was treated with IV antibiotics under the care of Dr. Sanjoy Mandal, Consultant – G.I. Surgery and General Surgeon. MRI done ater revealed a normal appendix, allowing the team to pursue conservative management.

Dr. Biswajyoti Guha closely monitored her obstetric condition. Dr. Guha shared, “This was a highly complex pregnancy—not only because of the suspected surgical emergency—but also due to her rare medical history and the later development of severe obstetric cholestasis. Her liver function was carefully managed with medication. What makes this case truly extraordinary is Poulomi’s medical history. At just 8 years old, she had been diagnosed with a germ cell tumour in one of her ovaries. The affected ovary was surgically removed, followed by chemotherapy. Despite the long odds, she conceived naturally without any fertility assistance. We were happy to see her condition stabilize prior to delivery. At term, she delivered a healthy baby girl weighing 2.8 kg. This successful natural pregnancy after childhood ovarian cancer is extremely rare. Most survivors with similar histories typically require IVF to conceive. At Manipal Hospital, this is the third such case we have seen, but the first involving natural conception.”

While talking about her situation, Poulomi Ghosh, employee at a private firm, shared, “I was just eight years old in 1999 when I was diagnosed with an ovarian cyst in my left ovary. Following surgery, the cyst was found to be malignant. I underwent chemotherapy and was under medical supervision for the next two years. Ever since, becoming a mother has been a distant dream for me. In 2024, that dream came true when I conceived naturally. However, my joy was short-lived as I was soon diagnosed with a perforated appendix and an appendicular lump. I was referred to Dr. Biswajyoti Guha, who not only gave me hope but also guided me through a critical phase of my pregnancy. With his expert care and the support of the team at Manipal Hospital, Mukundapur, I safely delivered my baby in the 38th week of pregnancy on April 30th. I will remain forever grateful to Dr. Guha and his team for turning what seemed impossible into a beautiful reality.”

Dr. Ayanabh Debgupta, Regional Chief Operating Officer, Manipal Hospital – East, shared, “This incredible journey is a true example of hope, strength, and expert medical care. At Manipal Hospitals in the East, we are delivering the finest cancer treatment in the region. We feel happy to be a part of Poulomi’s journey—from her fight against childhood cancer to becoming a mother naturally. It reflects our team’s dedication to supporting patients through every challenge with compassion and skill.”

The case stands as a powerful testament to the strength of the human body, the advances in women’s healthcare, and the hope it brings to childhood cancer survivors worldwide.

Gartner Finds 70 Percent of CDAOs Lead AI Strategy and Operations

London, U.K., May 12, 2025 — Seventy percent of chief data & analytics officers (CDAOs) have the primary responsibility for building the AI strategy and operating model for the organization, according to a new Gartner, Inc. survey.

The Gartner CDAO Agenda Survey for 2025 from September through November 2024 among 504 data and analytics executive leaders across the world.

“2025 is a critical year for CDAOs, as AI presents a new opportunity for them to establish their rank in AI leadership,” said Sarah James, Sr Director Analyst at Gartner, during the Gartner Data & Analytics Summit taking place this week in London.

“CDAOs’ exposure across the organization, combined with their AI-ready data expertise, positions them uniquely to lead, guide and challenge their respective organizations to successfully deliver value from AI. This is making the CDAO’s role pivotal to AI success. No other role has the opportunity to make the necessary connections and be at the center of the D&A and AI coalition of the willing,” said James.

Gartner predicts that by 2027, 75% of CDAOs not seen as essential to their organization’s AI success will lose their C-level position.

The CDAO role has become more established and strategic because of the complexity and ubiquity of data, its use and its value. The survey found that CDAOs reporting to the CEO increased to 36% in 2025, up from 21% in 2024.

However, the role of CDAO is evolving due to the prioritization of AI within organizations. While the CDAO role is secure, organizations are exploring different structures for AI leadership.

Gartner analysts foresee the CDAO role evolving in three distinct directions.

  • Expert D&A Leader: In this role, the D&A leader serves as the central, cross-functional data expert in the organization, likely to be a VP or head-of-data role that reports to IT. The role holds a holistic view of data across the organization and contributes their expertise across lines of business, overseeing global business intelligence (BI), master data management (MDM), reporting, and data platforms.
  • Connector CDAO: In this role, the CDAO orchestrates essential connections to ensure effective delivery. They embed D&A solutions in smart products and services for CxOs, bridging the gap between CxOs and the realms of data, analytics and AI. The role also drives the organization’s AI agenda forward, positioning the individual as an AI leader, if not the AI leader.
  • Pioneer CDAx: The “x” represents an aggregate of the chief data officer (CDO), CDAO and chief data and AI officer (CDAIO) roles and responsibilities. This role acts as a transformation and change agent, who applies technology cross-functionally. The executive, likely to be an AI leader, champions solutions to D&A and AI concerns and issues, upholds ethical principles and maintains strong governance across the organization.

“D&A leadership will continue to diverge in the near future and existing and aspiring CDAOs should develop their skills and expertise that align with their chosen path. This will help them to enhance their role and place in AI leadership,” said James.

Gartner clients can learn more in CDAOs Face Three Future Directions for Success in the Age of AI.

Data & analytics leaders can learn more about how to evaluate their own effectiveness using the Gartner CDAO Effectiveness Diagnostic, an exclusive tool that allows CDAOs to understand their effectiveness as leaders and discover their strengths and areas for improvement.

PVR INOX announces results for the Quarter and 12 months ended 31st Mar’25

Gurugram, May 12,2025: PVR INOX Limited today announced its audited standalone and consolidated financial results for the quarter and the 12 month period ended March 31st, 2025.

The box office in FY’25 was impacted by an uneven release calendar, marked by inconsistent content availability across quarters. Both Bollywood and Hollywood underperformed, contributing to a 9% decline in the company’s overall gross box office revenue. Hindi box office collections dropped 26%, primarily due to a 14% reduction in film releases, the absence of major superstar-led titles, and multiple postponements. Hollywood revenues fell by 28%, reflecting the lingering effects of the previous year’s strike and a lackluster tentpole slate. In contrast, Hindi-dubbed films saw a remarkable 153% surge, driven by nationwide hits like Pushpa 2 and Kalki, underscoring a growing audience appetite for large-scale pan-India narratives.

Chhava emerged as the highest-grossing film in the 4th quarter, earning approximately INR 700 crs at the box office, followed by strong performances from Sankranthiki Vasthunam (Telugu), SkyForce, Empuraan (Malayalam), Daaku Maharaj (Telugu), Game Changer (Telugu), Dragon (Tamil), and Vidaamuyarchi (Tamil). March, in particular, was a subdued month, with Empuraan and Sikandar releasing towards the end of the month. While Empuraan with life time box office of INR 125 crs cemented its place among the highest-grossing Malayalam films of all time, Sikandar with life time collections of INR 130 crs underperformed relative to expectations, especially considering its high-profile cast and production scale.

Despite ongoing industry-wide challenges from a constrained pipeline of Hindi and English releases, the company remained unwavering in delivering on the four strategic priorities outlined at the start of the year. We evolved from passively managing footfalls to actively generating them — a transformation that underscores our proactive approach to audience engagement and demand creation. Our focus on curated re-releases paid off handsomely, adding 7.1 million incremental footfalls and contributing approximately INR 124 crore in gross ticket sales.

The company also celebrated the spirit of cinema through the successful execution of four Cinema Lovers Days and one National Cinema Day, offering tickets at as low as INR 99. These five days alone drew an impressive 3.4 million moviegoers to our cinemas. Building on this success, we launched Blockbuster Tuesdays, a weekly value-driven initiative with ticket priced at ₹99 or ₹149, aimed at fostering cinema-going as a weekly habit and enhancing accessibility for broader audiences.

Throughout the year, we remained focused on disciplined cost optimization. In Rent and CAM — our largest fixed cost — we achieved savings of INR 57 crore through stringent negotiations. On a comparable screen basis, total fixed costs rose by a modest 0.6% YoY, while fixed costs excluding Rent and CAM declined by 0.4% YoY. Notably, over a five-year horizon (FY’20– FY’25), our total fixed cost per screen has grown at a CAGR of just 0.8%, significantly below the economy-wide CPI inflation of 5.3%.

In line with our profitability and operational efficiency objectives, we continued to rationalize our screen portfolio — closing 72 screens and opening 77 new ones over the course of the year. Our current screen portfolio stands at 1,743 screens across 352 cinemas in 111 cities in India and Sri Lanka.

As part of our ongoing transition to a Capital-Light Growth model, we recently opened two management-operated cinemas in Raipur (5 screens) and Jabalpur (4 screens). In addition, 23 cinemas with a combined 101 screens are signed under the Capital Light model and are expected to come up over the next 12–24 months. This strategic pivot is expected to materially reduce our new screen capex and drive long-term sustainable growth.

In a year marked by earnings volatility, the company strengthened its financial position by reducing net debt from INR 14,304 mn as of March 31, 2023, to INR 9,522 mn as of March 31, 2025 — a substantial reduction of INR 4,782 mn over the past 24 months (post-merger). This continued deleveraging reflects our disciplined approach to capital allocation, prudent cost controls, and a sharp focus on cash flow optimization — all of which position us well for future resilience and growth.

FY’26 promises to be a high-octane period for the exhibition industry, supported by a formidable lineup of content across Hollywood, Bollywood, and Regional cinema. A slew of eagerly awaited Hollywood tentpoles are set to hit the big screen, including Mission Impossible – The Final Reckoning, Formula 1, Jurassic World Rebirth, Fantastic Four: The First Steps, Superman, Predator: Badlands, Tron: Ares, Ballerina, Now You See Me 3, The Conjuring: Last Rites, Karate Kid: Legends, Mortal Kombat 2, Tron: Ares, Avatar: Fire and Ash, among others. These global franchises are expected to generate significant traction among urban audiences, reaffirming cinemas as the preferred destination for immersive movie experiences.

Closer home, the Hindi film slate for the remaining fiscal is equally promising, headlined by commercial crowd-pullers such as Sitare Zameen Par, Housefull 5, War 2, Jolly LLB 3, The Delhi Files, Son of Sardar 2, Baaghi 4, Thama, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, Tere Ishk Mein, Aashique 3, Alpha, Border 2 and Love & War.

The regional cinema is also expected to see landmark releases that will resonate deeply with their core markets. Films such as Kingdom, Thug Life, Kuberaa, Kannappa, Coolie, Nikka Zaildar 4, Sardaarji 3, Idli Kadai and Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1 reflect the growing scale and ambition of local-language productions. With strong fan bases, superstars, and culturally rich storylines, these titles are poised to drive robust performance across the regional markets.

Commenting on the results and performance, Mr. Ajay Bijli, Managing Director, PVR INOX Ltd., said, “FY’25 was an year of transformation — defined by our renewed focus on innovation and agility. We evolved from being reactive to becoming resilient and emerging as a more agile, future ready organization, laying the groundwork for long-term sustainability and relevance in a rapidly changing entertainment landscape.

Massh-Prolife Hospital Organizes Free Health Camp with the Message “Healthy Mother, Healthy Family”

Massh-Prolife Hospital Organizes Free Health Camp with the Message “Healthy Mother, Healthy Family”

Ludhiana, May 12: Mothers often prioritize taking care of their families over their own health. Amidst household responsibilities, professional commitments, and caring for loved ones, they tend to neglect their own well-being. With this in mind, Massh-Prolife Hospital, Ludhiana, organized a free health camp exclusively for women on the occasion of Mother’s Day.

The health camp, held on Saturday, benefited approximately 150 women who availed various healthcare services. The camp ran from 10 AM to 2 PM and provided free consultations with gynecologists, along with complimentary services such as blood pressure checks, sugar tests, ECGs, and ultrasound screenings. Additionally, services like X-rays, CT scans, MRIs, and Pap smear tests were offered at discounted rates.

On this occasion, Dr. Manisha Badhan, Gynecologist at Massh-Prolife Hospital, remarked, “We often observe that women, especially mothers, tend to overlook their own health. This camp is an effort to remind them that their health is just as important as their family’s. Our aim is to encourage them to undergo timely checkups and to show themselves the same love and care they extend to others. This initiative seeks to honor motherhood and raise awareness about women’s health.”

The event successfully highlighted the importance of maternal health and inspired women to prioritize their well-being.
