Bengaluru, 9th September 2023: An interactive session on “Indian Space Program and Chandrayaan Missions”, featuring Dr. P.G. Diwakar, ISRO Chair Professor and Former Scientific Secretary of ISRO, was hosted at the SVKM’s NMIMS Deemed-to-be-University, Bengaluru Campus. In the session, the esteemed guest delved into the realm of Chandrayan missions and the Indian Space Program, enlightening the session with his rich and intriguing insights about space exploration.

Dr. P.G. Diwakar, a PhD in Participatory Geomatics, is currently the ISRO Chair Professor at the National Institute of Advanced Studies, IISc Campus Bengaluru, and is a former distinguished scientist from ISRO, DOS (Department of Space). In his illustrious career, he has served in various capacities at the ISRO, and made significant contributions in Diverse National Missions; Web Technologies And GeoPortals; Image Processing solutions and Software Design And Development – Geospatial Applications.

In his stint at ISRO, he has accomplished some significant achievements like design, development and deployment of a unique and the only Geoportal of National reckoning, “THE BHUVAN GEOPORTAL”. Bhuvan is a prominent National Geospatial Platform today.

One of his recent applications enabled on the platform “Jal Shakti Abhiyan ” served more than 1,000 blocks in the country for ground water recharge structures taken up in distress districts to rejuvenate groundwater aquifers in the country. He also administered an ISRO Platform on Artificial Intelligence and Big Data analytics that uses Machine learning and Deep Learning techniques for problem solving.

Dr. P.G. Diwakar has also represented ISRO in a number of capacities at the International level in forums such as Committee of Earth Observation Satellites (CEOS), International Charter “Space and Major Disasters”. UN-ESCAP, APRSAF – JAXA, etc. He has also received many national and international accolades and awards, and has authored more than 100 publications/technical reports.

During the session Dr. P.G. Diwakar emphasised on how India has taken giant strides in space exploration over the last few years through its successive Chandrayan or moon missions, the Mangalyaan or the Mars mission, and the recent Adita L1, our maiden Solar Mission. At the end of the session, an interactive Q&A was organised, where the special guest patiently answered questions asked by students and space enthusiasts.

Sharing his insights on space exploration at the event, Dr. P.G. Diwakar said, “All the planetary systems in our Solar System have perfect resonance with each other. Any one of these planets moving away from the orbit can create a problem on earth. We are all gelling together with the Sun as part of the Solar System. If one fine day, the Moon gets completely away from the Earth, it will have a huge impact on our Gravitational forces. Therefore, the moon is very important for us.”

The program started by the lighting of lamps by the guests, followed by various cultural programmes like state songs sung by a senior batch student. Students were given directions and a roadmap to their journey of 2 years (diploma), and 3 Years (UG) investment at MSU. Kolkata, 9th September,2023:A student exchange program between India and Vietnam organized by Techno India Group was held at Techno India Main Campus, Salt Lake. The program emphasized on the exchange of cultural traditions, values, cuisines and lifestyles.

Techno India University hosted six students from Vietnam. The students arrived at Kolkata in the 1stweek of August, 2023 for a month-long internship program. The program has been initiated by the Consul General of India in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Techno India University has participated in the recently held Namaste Vietnam Program in Saigon. The students have been undertaking short-term research projects under the supervision of Techno India University faculty members.

TheprogrambeganwiththestudentssharingtheirexperiencesaboutIndia.They highlighted the core values of compassion, care, and cooperation experienced by them by the Indian students. They harped on the academic insights gained with respect to machine learning, cancer interventions and other topics related to biotechnology. It also entailed the exchange of cultural ideas and traditions, values, and other aspects of everyday life.

The Vietnamese students were in awe of the cuisines served like Biryani, Chicken Rolls, Rasgullas and Momos. They also enjoyed visiting the Victoria Memorial, Coffee House, College Street book store, and Sundarban where they stayed at the resort, Jhore Jole Jongole. At the same time, Indian students have also shared their insights on Vietnamese culture and tradition. They were fond of their national traditional costume, Ao dai, and also appreciated their cuisines. The Exchange Program also included a brief session on Universal Human Values and its importance in a person’s life. It also highlighted the similarities and differences between both the cultures of India and Vietnam and how they were able to use these values to find a purpose in their lives. The session concluded with expressing gratitude to a loved one and sending them a thank you note. Monoshij, a mental health platform started by Prof Manoshi Roychowdhury, hosted a session on Universal Human Values that would help a person find a purpose in life. The session was addressed by Ms. Aparupa Ojha (Clinical Psychologist and Co-ordinator) and Ms Abheepsa Bagchi (counselling Psychologist).

This initiative intends to create a pool of skilled and competent resources, placing a significant emphasis on the development of cognitive and technical proficiencies. The advent of automation, the influence of ESG and policy reforms are driving the nature and volume of current and future jobs in India and globally. Work-based programmes are being considered an innovation to bridge the skill gap through Industry-academia collaboration. Industry micro-credentials are added to the curriculum to make the programs relevant and address the employability gap that the industry faces while hiring. It embraces individuals who have completed their 10th or 12th grade, diploma holders, ITI graduates, and even college dropouts with a technical background. Throughout the program, participants can anticipate earning an average stipend ranging from Rs. 11,000 to 16,000 per month, thereby receiving essential financial support while they simultaneously learn and work. Furthermore, participants will enjoy the security of insurance coverage provided by the Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC), ensuring their well-being and peace of mind.

“According to industry estimates, the unemployment rate in India stood at 7.33% in 2022 and the dropout level at the secondary level stands at 12.6% in 2021-22. States like Assam, Bihar, Gujarat, Meghalaya, Odisha, & West Bengal see the highest dropout at the secondary (9-10) level due to poverty and quality of education. The work-integrated learning program we are launching addresses many of these challenges and also assists corporates in nurturing well-trained workforce. Art and Craft Workshops: Creative workshops allowed children to explore their artistic skills by making Janmashtami-themed crafts, including flutes, peacock feathers, and miniature clay pots.

Storytelling Sessions: Teachers engaged young minds with captivating stories of Lord Krishna’s life and adventures, emphasizing the values of courage, kindness, and righteousness. The children were given Traditional Sweets as well. Students relished traditional sweets such as ‘Makhan-Mishri,’ ‘Chhena,’ and ‘Peda’ during the celebrations, immersing themselves in the flavors of Janmashtami.

Lastly, all school premises were adorned with vibrant decorations, including rangoli patterns and traditional motifs, creating a festive and inviting atmosphere.

The aim was to instill valuable lessons and focus on Lord Krishna’s teachings of spreading love. The event was celebrated on 7th September, 2023 across all its branches. This year, Makoons Play School gave the children aged between 1-5 years, an opportunity to reflect on their values of kindness, empathy and the art of giving, through their performances and interactive games.

The orientation ceremony, that was held from July 28th to August 26th, 2023, was a vibrant celebration of new beginnings, with enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members, and staff.

Prof. (Dr.) Madhu Veeraraghavan, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), Bengaluru Campus, said “In the dynamic intersection of academia and industry, we stand at a pivotal juncture. MAHE is committed to nurturing the growth of our students, equipping them with a unique blend of knowledge and a profound insight into the demands of the industry. Our students emerge not just with better knowledge and abilities but also with a substantial competitive advantage over their colleagues who choose to enter the job market immediately after their undergraduate studies.”

Over the span of two months, different departments under MAHE Bengaluru including Manipal School of Life Science (MLS), Department of Commerce (DOC), Department of Liberal Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences (DLHS), Srishti Manipal Institute of Art, Design and Technology, Department of Public Policy (DPP), and Manipal Institute of Regenerative Medicine (MIRM), conducted individual orientation sessions tailored to their respective programs.

There were engaging interaction sessions between HODs, faculty, students and parents. Throughout the orientation period, students were provided with a comprehensive overview of their upcoming college experience, encompassing both academic and social aspects.

This grand orientation ceremony not only marked the commencement of their academic pursuits but also fostered a sense of belonging and camaraderie among the fresh PG batch at MAHE Bengaluru.
