Ashish Dixit on Lord Krishna’s Teachings: Embracing Both Good and Bad Times is Key

26th August 2024: As the spirit of Janmashtami spreads devotion and joy, actor Ashish Dixit, who plays the lead role in Sun Neo’s show Chhathi Maiyya Ki Bitiya, has shared his plans for the festival and some cherished memories.

ashish

Discussing his plans for celebrating Janmashtami this year, Ashish said, “This year, I don’t have big plans for Janmashtami due to my busy shooting schedule for Sun Neo’s Chhathi Maiyya Ki Bitiya. However, I’ll make the most of it by celebrating both at home and with my co-stars on set. On the set of our show, we’ve also shot a special Janmashtami sequence, which we enjoyed to the fulles. At home, we usually decorate the temple, bathe the idol with milk, and place it on a small swing. We worship like any normal family—not too intense, but we do what we can. We play songs and keep the atmosphere joyful. On the set of our show, we’ve also filmed a special Janmashtami sequence, which we enjoyed to the fullest.”

Recalling his childhood memories, the Chhathi Maiyya Ki Bitiya actor said, “When I was a kid in Mumbai, we used to set up a Dahi Handi in our society. The smallest one would climb to the top. I remember one time, some uncles helped me climb to the third level safely. I broke the pot and then asked my dad why I had to break a smaller one while others broke bigger ones. He said, ‘No problem, when you grow up, you can break the bigger one.’ I still remember that moment.”

Reflecting on the teachings that have impacted his life, Ashish Dixit shared, “Lord Krishna’s teachings have greatly influenced me. He said that everything in life happens for a reason. When bad things happen, you find out who truly supports you and who doesn’t. And when things are going well, it’s also revealed who stays with you. Experiencing both good and bad times is very important, and this is what Krishna Ji teaches us.”

Chhathi Maiyya Ki Bitiya, airing on Sun Neo, stars Devoleena Bhattacharjee, Brinda Dahal, Sara Khan, Ashish Dixit, and Jaya Bhattacharya in key roles. The show highlights Vaishnavi’s devotion to Chhathi Maiyya, who offers guidance and protection to her followers while celebrating the triumph of good over evil.

13th August 2024: Actor Amit Bhardwaj, renowned for his work in theatre, film, and television, is now playing a significant part of &TV’s new social drama, Bheema. Amit is seen as Mewa, the father of the title character Bheema. In this exclusive interview, Amit talks about the show, his character, his journey in the entertainment industry and his love for traditional Bihari cuisine.

bheema

1. How did you land the role of Mewa in Bheema?
I found out about Bheema through a friend. He informed me about the auditions organised by Raj Khatri Productions for a character from Uttar Pradesh. I was intrigued, sent in my profile, and was shortlisted. After a successful mock test and audition, I was thrilled to be cast as the lead in Bheema.

2. Tell us about your journey so far.
This is the first time in 16 years of my career that I have bagged a prominent role. Earlier, I would audition for a bigger role but only end up with smaller parts. My career started in 2008 with a cameo in Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo. Despite the challenges, including a stint as an assistant director to sustain myself, I never gave up. I am deeply grateful to the production house and channel for believing in me and helping me realize this dream.

3. Can you share insights into your work as a dubbing artist?
I spent about eight years as a dubbing artist, starting with my role in Chakravyuh where I dubbed for a coach. I also worked on numerous Hindi and South Indian films, which helped me refine my skills and broaden my industry experience.

4. What do you like the most about Bheema?
The concept of the show is interesting and engaging. Set in the 1980s, “Bheema” follows the story of a young girl named Bheema. It is a social drama focusing on her struggles and her journey toward equal rights. Audiences will witness her courageous journey as she battles adversities stemming from her family, society, and economic conditions. Despite facing numerous injustices and discrimination, she fearlessly strives to overcome these obstacles.

5. Tell us about your character in the show.
Mewa is a humble and innocent man who is empathetic towards others, and always ready to lend a helping hand. Mewa radiates warmth and compassion. His weakness lies in his inability to speak up against injustice.

6. How did you prepare for this role?
Being from Bihar, I am familiar with the language. As soon as I was briefed about the character, I started getting into the skin of Mewa and conduct like him even when I was not shooting. This method helps me to portray the character authentically.

7. Where are you from?
I am from the Gaya district in Bihar, where my family lives. I cherish evenings spent in Bodh Gaya seeking blessings and peace. I love the traditional Bihari cuisine. Aloo ke parathe, Sattu ke parathe, Litti chokha, and Champaran chicken curry are close to my heart. I could live on these dishes forever. My time in Patna with Nirman Kalamanch and Hajju Musical Theater also holds many fond memories.

8. What can viewers expect from Bheema?
Bheema is a social drama that delves into the life of a young girl. The show highlights her struggles for equal rights. Audiences will witness a powerful story of resilience and hope, as Bheema navigates the complexities of family, society, and economic challenges. Brinda Dahal, a 16-year-old who is among the youngest actresses on Indian television playing a lead role, shared, “I don’t have any youth idols because I strive to be someone’s idol myself. I am the youngest actor on the set and I love it. Everyone pampers me a lot, always reminding me to eat properly and taking great care of me. Recently, when I wasn’t feeling well, everyone was concerned and made sure I had healthy food.”

She added, “I have many seniors on the set, including Jaya ma’am and Abha ji, who also pamper me, help me during tough times, and correct my mistakes. They constantly check on my comfort and teach me valuable lessons. One of the most important lessons they’ve taught me is to never raise your voice, always speak politely, remain down-to-earth, and maintain the same humble personality regardless of where life takes you.”

Chhathi Maiyya Ki Bitiya follows Vaishnavi (Brinda Dahal), an orphan who reveres Chhathi Maiyya (portrayed by Devoleena Bhattacharjee) as her mother. The show centers on the devotion to Chhathi Maiyya, who protects and guides her worshippers through life, and celebrates the triumph of good over evil.

SPJIMR-Abhyudaya’s Hastantaran 2024: A new mentorship journey begins

Mumbai, August 08, 2024: Hastantaran, meaning ‘handing over’ or ‘transferring’, is an exciting ceremony marking the start of the mentoring journey undertaken by SPJIMR’s first-year PGDM participants and Abhyudaya Sitaras (Stars).

Abhyudaya, meaning ‘growing together’, is an experiential learning programme where each first-year PGDM participant is assigned a Sitara to mentor for the entire year. The Sitaras, selected based on their academic records and performance in specially curated aptitude tests, are some of the brightest students from Mumbai’s marginalised and underprivileged sections.

SPJIMR_Hastantaran_2024_1_

Speaking about the initiative, Prof. Varun Nagaraj, Dean, SPJIMR, said, “The SPJIMR-Abhyudaya programme is designed to cultivate social sensitivity and empathy in our future business leaders by exposing them to the realities of urban poverty and inculcate mentorship qualities.” Since 2008, 948 Sitaras and 3,688 PGDM participants have undergone this transformative journey.

The Sitaras, who refer to the PGDM participants affectionately as ‘Didis’ (sisters) or ‘Bhaiyas’ (brothers), gain lifelong mentors who provide academic support, personality development training, emotional counselling, and advice on personal or professional issues.

Hastantaran 2024 marked the propitious commencement of Abhyudaya for the PGDM cohort of 2024-26. Arati Nagaraj, Director, SPJIMR-Abhyudaya, inspired the Sitaras and PGDM aspirants, and said, “To the senior mentors, remember, your journey is never over. You continue to be your Sitaras’ North Star. And to the new mentors, embrace this journey and strive to become a guiding light for your Sitaras.”

‘Celestial Connections’, the theme of Hastantaran 2024, signified the sincerity and depth of the bonds formed between the PGDM participants and the Sitaras. “Abhyudaya was a life-changing experience for me. I learned a lot from my mentee and her family,” said Swapneel, PGP2 mentor. Added Sakina Jabir Khan, his mentee and a class 8 student, “I learnt about leadership from Swapneel bhaiya. He helped me with my studies. Though I am sad that I won’t see him every month, I am excited to know who my new mentor will be.”

To celebrate the beginning of these beautiful mentor-mentee relationships, the Sitaras and the PGDM participants lit up the stage with energetic dance and soulful song performances. During a panel discussion, second-year PGDM participants and Sitaras shared their Abhyudaya experiences to clarify doubts and allay concerns of the first-year participants.

The most awaited event of Hastantaran 2024 was the first mentor-mentee meeting. Each Sitara searched with keen eyes, bated breath, and hopeful hearts for their beloved ‘Didis’ and ‘Bhaiyas’. A sense of emotion overtook them as this moment marked the rite of passage from their previous mentor to their next mentor. The event concluded with a series of ice-breaking and team-building exercises where the Sitaras and their new mentors shared personal stories, aspirations, and expectations.

Hastantaran 2024 marked a shift in the energy on campus. The excitement of being part of an experience that shapes lives, creates lifelong bonds, and builds a treasure trove of memories was almost tangible. Each participant and their Sitara are now set to embark on a stellar journey of personal growth and learning.
