Fighting Chennai Singams go down to Srinagar Ke Veer off penultimate ball in thriller

Chennai, 14th March 2024: Chennai Singams fought right till the end but went down off the penultimate ball to Srinagar Ke Veer by three wickets in a thrilling Indian Street Premier League (ISPL) T10 match at the Dadoji Kondadev Stadium here on Tuesday.

Defending a total of 109 for 7, Chennai kept taking wickets at regular intervals in the chase but could not prevent Srinagar from qualifying for the semi-finals.

Bablu Patil swings big

After Srinagar chose to bowl, Bablu Patil injected momentum into the Chennai innings with a blistering 37 off just 10 deliveries at No 5. Coming in when Chennai needed some big hits at 44 for 3 into the seventh over, Patil swung five sixes off his blade. Standing outside the off stump, Patil pounced on the full deliveries and swung them high and square on the leg side.

Opener Sagar Ali contributed 21 off 15 with three sixes, while Dilip Binjwa, V Vignesh and Aniket Sanap cracked a six each towards the end of the innings to help Chennai cross the 100-run mark.

50-50 challenge

One of the unique aspects of the ISPL is the 50-50 challenge. A batting team sets themselves a target of a minimum of 16 runs and chooses who should bowl from the opposition team. If the batting team achieves or exceeds the target, 50 per cent more runs are added. For example, if a team scores 20 runs, they will get 30 runs for that over and if they score 10 runs, they will get only five runs.

Chennai just missed besting their 50-50 challenge, scoring 15 off the over, and getting seven deducted from their total. They throttled Srinagar in the 50-50 challenge during the chase, with Vishwanath Jadhav conceding just four runs while striking off consecutive deliveries, as Srinagar could add only two to their total.

Vignesh strikes early

ignesh had got Chennai off to a rousing start in their defence, taking two wickets in the opening Tape Ball over with massive inswing. But Lokesh revived the Srinagar chase with 49 off 26, including five sixes. With 16 runs needed off the last over, Binjwa conceded a couple of sixes but also removed Lokesh and Deepak Dogra. However, with three needed off two, No 9 Rajesh Sorte hit the first ball he faced for a straight four.

Chennai face Falcon Risers Hyderabad in their crucial last league match on Wednesday.

Brief scores: Chennai Singams 109-7 in 10 overs (Bablu Patil 37, Sagar Ali 21; Bhushan Gole 3-30) lost to Srinagar Ke Veer 111-7 in 9.5 overs (L. Lokesh 49, Mohammed Nadeem 24; Dilip Binjwa 3-35, V Vignesh 2-6, Vishwanath Jadhav 2-15) by three wickets.

Ketan Mhatre’s seven successive sixes in vain

Chennai, 12th March 2024: Ketan Mhatre smashed 60 off just 21 balls, but the opener’s nine sixes – including seven successive maximums – were in vain as Chennai Singams fell short by 21 runs against Majhi Mumbai in their Indian Street Premier League (ISPL) T10 match at the Dadoji Kondadev Stadium here on Sunday. It was Chennai’s first loss in the ISPL after back-to-back wins.

Mhatre mayhem
Faced with a steep target of 150, Mhatre revived the Chennai chase from 8 for 2 in some style. In seven deliveries he faced from the end of the second over to the start of the fourth over, Mhatre slammed seven successive sixes, sending the ball soaring every time in the arc between deep extra cover and deep midwicket.

KETAN

Vijay Pawle was the bowler to take the maximum punishment as Mhatre slammed him for five consecutive sixes in the third over. Mhatre brought up his half-century in just 15 balls with his powerful hitting. But the opener departed in the sixth over, with Chennai still needing another 72.

Chennai scored 17 runs off the 50-50 challenge off Devid Gogoi in the seventh over, boosting their total by 25 runs overall. But they also lost the wickets of Sanjay Kanojjiya and Vishwanath Jadhav (23 off 12).

Faced with a couple of tight overs from Pawle and Abhishek Kumar Dalhor, Chennai were left with too much to do in the last over from Gogoi, and ended on 128 for 9 in their ten overs.

Early strikes
With a couple of miserly overs from left-arm pacer R. Thavith Kumar, and strikes from Farman Khan and Jadhav, Chennai had Mumbai in some bother at 26 for 3. But 40s from Dalhor and Pawle, followed by some late strikes from Krushna Pawar and Ashraf Khan, took Mumbai to 149 for 5.

How Do I Support Someone Living With Epilepsy?

Author: Ms.R.Tejashree – Tutor in the Department of Neuro Electro Physiology
SIMATS- Saveetha College of Allied Health Sciences
Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences, Chennai.

In this write up we will explore seizure disorder and its causes, symptoms, and how to provide first-aid treatment for seizure. A seizure is a sudden, uncontrolled burst of electrical activity in the brain that can cause changes in behavior, movements, feelings, and levels of consciousness. Having two or more seizures at least 24 hours apart that do not have a known cause is considered to be epilepsy. Epilepsy is one of the most common neurological disorders of childhood. Epilepsy affects both sexes and all ages with worldwide distribution. The prevalence and the incidence of epilepsy are slightly higher in men compared to women and tend to peak in the elderly, reflecting the higher frequency of stroke, neurodegenerative diseases, and tumors in this age-group. Focal seizures are more common than generalized seizures both in children and in adults. Epilepsy is a treatable condition, with up to 80% entering prolonged periods of seizure remission and up to 50% continuing to be seizure-free after treatment discontinuation.

Epilepsy has often been considered a disorder surrounded by myths and misconception. The seizures are short – lived, lasting only for a few seconds to minutes, and recovery is immediate. The person may experience sudden loss of consciousness, jerking movements of arms and legs, staring, stiffening of the body, breathing problems, and loss of bowel control. They may also ave hallucinations of sight, smell, sound, taste, touch and memory. Genetic factors, brain tumors, stroke, degenerative diseases, trauma, chronic alcohol, stress, high illness may cause epilepsy. It is not always possible to identify a cause for epilepsy with any confidence. The main form of treatment for epilepsy is drugs. Sometimes people can learn to control their seizures by avoiding clear precipitants, for example alcohol or lack of sleep. But the large majority require anti – convulsant medication, often over a period of many years. Seizures impact their lives in many ways including creating barriers to employment and education and facing a sense of discrimination and isolation from their peers who donʼt understand what happens when they see a seizure occur.

It is important for the public to know how to respond to all seizures. So people must know how to help seizure patients through first aid treatments. Some general steps to help someone who is having any type of seizures are to stay calm and remain with the person until the seizure ends, keep the person safe and protect them from injury by removing any nearby objects, and turn the person onto their side. Call 108 if the seizure is prolonged for more than 5 minutes. Do not restrain the person and do not put anything in the mouth during an attack.

To lead the fight to overcome the challenges of living with epilepsy and to accelerate therapies to stop seizures, find cures and save lives. This lecture highlights the information on epilepsy and its causes, symptoms, and medications and most importantly how to help the seizure person by providing first aid treatment.

SIMATS – Saveetha College of Allied Health Sciences conducted an awareness program on
Sustainable Development Goals in Saveetha School of Physical Education on the topic entitled “Awareness on seizure disorder”.
