Seoul, South Korea – On September 18, 2024, the 10th Anniversary of the HWPL World Peace Summit will be celebrated in South Korea and various locations worldwide reaching 122 countries. Under the theme ‘Creating World Peace Community Through Regional Collaboration’, this event commemorates, global leaders’ and citizens’ commitment to peace that lasted for a decade, with an eye towards future strategies to promote global harmony.

In 2014, the Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL), an international peace organization, convened over a thousand global leaders from politics, religion, women’s groups, youth organizations, and the media from about 140 countries to the inaugural HWPL World Peace Summit in Seoul. The summit addressed the issues of conflict resolution, religious harmony, and the implementation of legal instruments to ensure lasting peace.

HWPL states that the purpose of the anniversary is to review achievements since 2014 and discuss future plans. The event aims to gather regional talents and establish networks essential for tailored peace strategies, strengthening regional networks to tackle local peace threats and harnessing collective capacities. To achieve this, various sessions will be held in each country at different levels.

Under the slogan “Let’s have everyone become a messenger of peace,” HWPL advocates for individual responsibility in promoting peace at all levels. HWPL plans to collect messages of peace from people around the world and reveal them at the event representing the desire for peace and unity of people from all walks of life around the world in the name of peace.

Fostered by the agreements signed in 2014, over the past decade, HWPL, alongside its global partners, committed to addressing global challenges such as military tensions, economic disputes, climate change, and cyber security threats through enhanced regional cooperation and collective action. HWPL’s dedicated to establishing a robust peace governance framework, connecting international organizations, governments, and civil societies.

Back in the 9th Anniversary in 2023, Chairman Lee Man-hee of HWPL said, “Why should the lives of young people be sacrificed in war? What is politics, and for whom is it for? When war breaks out, it is young people who are sacrificed. Peace cannot be achieved through words alone. If peace had won in this world, there would have been no regrettable deaths. We must leave peace as a legacy to the global community where our descendants will live.”

Karnataka August 12th, 2024: Samsung has awarded certificates of completion to its first batch of 250 students of its flagship CSR programme, Samsung Innovation Campus at Sri Krishnarajendra Silver Jubilee Technological Institute, Bengaluru. The students were all from the course in Coding & Programming. Through the programme, Samsung has committed to being a strong partner in the Government’s mission to empower the country’s youth and #PoweringDigitalIndia.

The students who were mentored and trained at Shri Krishnarajendra Silver Jubilee Technological Institute, Bengaluru also participated in a hackathon and devised tech-based solutions to solve real-world problems. The hackathon encouraged participants to collaborate, innovate, and develop a problem-solving mindset. They were awarded certificates of completion at a felicitation ceremony by Sri KM Suresh Kumar, Joint Director, Department of Collegiate & Technical Education, Government of Karnataka, Dr. Abhilasha Gaur, CEO, ESSCI, Dr Paul Vizhian S, Principal, University of Visvesvaraya College of Engineering (UVCE), and Dr. Vijaya GS, Principal, SKSJTI.

This year the programme goes beyond just skilling to include more exciting opportunities for the students. The national toppers from each domain will receive a cash award of INR 1 Lakh along with an opportunity to visit Samsung facilities in Delhi/NCR. The visits to the facilities will provide the students with an opportunity to interact with the leadership team at Samsung. The national course toppers will also get exciting Samsung products.

During the programme, participants will receive instructor-led blended classroom and online training through approved training and education partners of ESSCI across the country.

The students are also being imparted soft skills training to enhance their employability. The participant mobilisation is being implemented through ESSCI’s training and education partners across India. The approach includes a combination of offline and online learning, immersive hackathons and capstone projects, as well as expert mentorship provided by Samsung employees.

The curriculum structure varies depending on the chosen course track. For instance, participants opting for the AI course will immerse themselves in 270 hours of theoretical training and complete 80 hours of project work. Meanwhile, those pursuing the IoT or Big Data courses will undergo 160 hours of training, supplemented by 80 hours of practical project work. Participants in the Coding & Programming course will engage in 80 hours of training and participate in a 3-day hackathon event.

The programme spans eight educational institutions across four states. In the northern region, training centres are established in Lucknow and Gorakhpur, besides two in Delhi/NCR. In the Southern region, covering states of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, training centres are located in Chennai and Sriperumbudur, besides two in Bengaluru.

12th August 2024: Choosing the right academic track for their studies from 9th to 12th grade is one of the most important decisions a student will ever make. This choice impacts not just their current academic path but also establishes the parameters for their subsequent career possibilities. Making such a significant choice at such a young age, though, might be intimidating. Students frequently lack the clarity and experience necessary to make wise decisions. This is where mentorship and counseling are really helpful. Selecting a stream, such as Science, Commerce, Arts, or a career route, is an essential duty that comes with going from middle to high school. Parental expectations, cultural norms, peer pressure, and occasionally the student’s interests all play a role in this decision-making process. These elements could cause a learner to receive inadequate instruction to make a choice that doesn’t align with their true aspirations or potential.

This process of decision-making is not limited to high school. Selecting a graduating stream is just as important for deciding one’s career path and professional prospects. Once more, students must weigh their passions against what they consider to be “secure” or “prestigious” possibilities. Because science seems so stable, a student may feel forced to study it in high school, only to fall in love with the humanities when they graduate. On the other hand, a student who is very interested in technology might not know about the variety of career options in business or the arts, thus they would make a decision based on incomplete knowledge.

The Importance of Counselling and Mentorship

To give students the information they need to make wise decisions regarding their academic and career trajectories, counseling and mentorship are essential. A mentor can help students navigate the pros and cons of each stream, as well as future job prospects and academic hurdles. A mentor can be a teacher, a professional counselor, or an experienced adult. Crucially, mentors assist students in matching their high school and college major choices with their long-term professional objectives, aptitudes, and personal interests.

1. Specialized Guidance: Every student is different, possessing a special combination of skills, shortcomings, interests, and objectives. Choosing a stream in a way that doesn’t work for everyone can be harmful.

Mentors can assist students in understanding their skills and how they fit with the requirements of various streams through individualized counseling. With this personalized approach, students are certain to select a stream that truly aligns with their future goals, as opposed to merely adopting the choices of their peers or following trends.

2. Reducing Stress and Anxiety: Students may feel excessive pressure to select the “correct” course of action. The fear of falling short of social norms or upsetting parents is a common source of this pressure. A portion of the anxiety related to choosing a stream can be reduced by mentoring, which offers a safe space for students to voice their worries and anxieties. Students who receive mentoring can make decisions about their college major and high school courses with more clarity and self-assurance.

3. Increasing professional Possibilities: Many students may be unaware of the variety of professional alternatives that are open to them. They can be introduced to areas they would not have thought about via a mentor. For example, a biology-focused student may be urged to consider professions in science communication, environmental science, or biotechnology. Mentors assist students in high school and college in making better selections that are in line with their genuine interests by extending their horizons.

4. Improving the Ability to Make Decisions: Choosing an academic path gives pupils a head start on making lifelong decisions, which is a valuable life skill. Students who receive mentorship learn how to balance the advantages and disadvantages, think through the long-term effects, and make choices that are consistent with their goals and values.

Real-Life Implications of Stream and College Major Choices

Long-term effects may result from the decisions high school and college students make about their academic paths. These choices affect their ability to enroll in college courses, the kinds of occupations they can choose from, and even how happy they are with their chosen field overall. Students can embark on a journey toward professional success and personal fulfillment by making a well-considered selection and receiving great mentoring.

For instance, a student is more likely to succeed academically and maintain motivation throughout their studies if they are enthusiastic about a certain subject and choose a stream that fits their interests. On the other hand, people who select a stream due to outside pressures could get disinterested, which could affect their academic standing and perhaps result in a change of employment later in life.

To help students navigate the difficult process of choosing a stream in both high school and college, counseling and mentoring are crucial. Mentors are essential in helping students shape their futures because they provide individualized guidance, ease anxiety, increase career options, and improve decision-making abilities. Having this kind of support available to them can help students in grades 9 through 12 and beyond select a career path that not only plays to their strengths academically but also opens doors to a successful and satisfying life. 12th August 2024: It’s said that ‘Youth is the future of the country.’ As we approach International Youth Day on August 12, 2024, young actress Brinda Dahal, who plays the lead role of Vaishnavi in Sun Neo’s Chhathi Maiyya Ki Bitiya, shares her thoughts on Youth Day, her journey, and more.

Brinda Dahal, a 16-year-old who is among the youngest actresses on Indian television playing a lead role, shared, “I don’t have any youth idols because I strive to be someone’s idol myself. I am the youngest actor on the set and I love it. Everyone pampers me a lot, always reminding me to eat properly and taking great care of me. Recently, when I wasn’t feeling well, everyone was concerned and made sure I had healthy food.”

She added, “I have many seniors on the set, including Jaya ma’am and Abha ji, who also pamper me, help me during tough times, and correct my mistakes. They constantly check on my comfort and teach me valuable lessons. Roorkee, 12-08-2024: Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) and Prayas Greentech Private Limited, a start-up, have signed Technology Transfer Agreements on the technologies that have been developed at IIT Roorkee by Faculty Prof. Prasenjit Mondal related to methods for recycling of waste plastics.

The inventions developed at IIT Roorkee with the help of CO Col Pranav Mishra, 59 Engineering Regiment Indian Army for field trial, provide a low-cost, eco-friendly process for recycling waste polyethylene packets through the production of value-added products like trackway planks and systems using composite prepared from waste plastics and other wastes. The assault trackway will be highly competitative to the existing products.

Regarding the program, Yash Dua, Director, Prayas Greentech Private Limited said, “We anticipate that these technologies will play a crucial role in recycling waste plastics as it will address the issue of littering landscape which leads to harmful environmental consequences. It provides sustainable utilisation of the waste plastics by recycling, making innovtive plastics based products resulting in less emissions, less fossil energy use, less harm to the environment”.
