Young Footballers (U7 & U9) Unite for Critically ill Newborn Survival Program

Bengaluru, November 18, 2024– In honour of World Prematurity Day, the Neonates Foundation of India (NFI), a non-profit organization dedicated to providing financial assistance and access to quality neonatal care to underprivileged families, has joined hands with South United Football Club (SUFC), Bengaluru to host a football tournament. The tournament titled ‘Goal for Good Cup’ witnessed 78 children aged under 7 and under 9 who participated to support the cause of newborn care.

Through this tournament, NFI and SUFC aim to raise awareness and funds for quality neonatal care for premature and critically ill newborns from low-income households. DTSS, Manipal Hospitals, Tata Soulfull and Peak Performance supported the tournament.

Suma Jairam, Spokesperson from Neonates Foundation of India said, “At Neonates Foundation of India, we are deeply committed to making neonatal care accessible to families from the low-income section. World Prematurity Day is a powerful reminder of the challenges premature infants face, and this collaboration with South United Football Club is a heartfelt initiative to bring our community together for these newborns. We are incredibly thankful to our brand partners, and parents of the participants, for their support.”

SUFC, a Bangalore-based club focused on building a sustainable sporting ecosystem, views this tournament as an opportunity to inspire young players and contribute to a meaningful cause.

Prerana Dhawan, CMO and COO at South United Football Club said, “On this World Prematurity Day, we are excited to partner with NFI to teach our young athletes the value of teamwork both on the field and in service to society. It’s indeed heartening to see the enthusiasm and empathy displayed by the children and parents alike. We are hopeful that the ‘Goal for Good Cup’ will make a positive impact by raising awareness about neonatal care and highlighting the importance of preventive measures to reduce neonatal mortality. Through the power of sports, we aim to drive change and promote a healthier future for newborns.”

Premature births pose a significant challenge in Karnataka, where timely access to neonatal intensive care (NICU) is crucial for survival. In 2020, Karnataka’s neonatal mortality rate stood at a concerning 14 per 1,000 live births, highlighting the urgent need for improved care. The Neonatal Foundation of India (NFI), through its network of 31 partner hospitals nationwide, has already provided life-saving NICU support to over 100 infants requiring intensive treatment. Neonatal mortality is a national crisis, but with the collective support of individuals and organizations, we can dramatically reduce these tragic losses. Saving a newborn is not just saving a life; it’s securing a future generation.

Abhishek Chitlangia, President – Manufacturing, Duroply, said, “We are excited to ensure Superior Calibrated Plywood offering across Duroply’s range of plywood products. We have advanced technology in our manufacturing processes to ensure that the flat surface in the final product not only enhances the beauty of the interiors by being flawlessly flat but makes it durable to last generations. Each sheet of Superior Calibrated Plywood at Duroply undergoes a meticulous manufacturing process to guarantee uniform thickness and smooth surfaces on all ends, ensuring consistent quality enhancing beauty, sturdiness, and durability of home, office, and commercial interiors.”

Superior Calibration Plywood from Duroply ensures minimal variation of just ± 0.4mm giving the industry best finish to a flat surface. Unlike standard plywood, which can have variations in thickness across sheets, calibrated plywood undergoes an additional process to ensure uniformity. Through a specialized calibration process, each sheet is crafted to maintain consistent thickness.

The uniform surface reduces the likelihood of bubbles during pasting of decorative laminate or veneer on the plywood surface, which increases the overall dimensional stability and durability of the finished product. This significantly reduces the risk of warping and other deformities, making the finished product structurally sound, increasing durability of the furniture making it last generations.

Uniform thickness across the entire surface of a Superior Calibrated Plywood gives the place an elegant, sleek, and modern look. This also makes it easy to add any decorative layer or veneer over the plywood surface, ensuring flawless flat finish throughout in the final product exuding grace and charm enhancing beauty of the place. This product is particularly important for high-end premises like villas, townhouses, resorts, hotels, upper segment homes where aesthetic appeal is paramount.

Plywood has various applications in the house, kitchen, bathroom, office furniture and uniform thickness and smooth surface ensure consistent finish significantly reducing the furniture making time. This precision helps in minimizing issues like gaps, uneven surfaces, and misalignment when the plywood is used for flooring, paneling, or cabinetry. Builders and carpenters benefit significantly from this consistency, as it reduces the need for additional sanding, rework, and adjustments, saving both time and labor costs during installation. Perfect finish also minimiseswastage of input materials. Thus, quicker furniture making time, and reduced wastage makes Superior Calibrated Plywood a win-win proposition for the customers, architects, interior designers, and carpenters.

As a result, calibrated plywood enhances aesthetic appeal of the place, enhances dimensional stability increasing durability of interior, and minimizes furniture making time. Thus, this feature is a win-win proposition offering peace of mind for all the stakeholders.

Tiny Fighter Wins: Extreme critical Premature Baby Recovers at Apollo Cradle & Children’s Hospital

Hyderabad, 18th November 2024: In a remarkable display of medical expertise and teamwork, a baby born at just 28 weeks of gestation, weighing a mere 760 grams, has been discharged in a healthy condition from Apollo Cradle & Children’s Hospital, after overcoming life-threatening complications.

On the occasion of World Prematurity Day, Apollo Cradle & Children’s Hospital showcased the combined power of advancement in technology, skilled Neonatal ICU Care, and an experienced team of doctors, in helping the revival of an unusual preterm case.

On 31st August 2024, the baby of Raja Mohan Reddy and Kavitha was transported to Apollo Cradle & Children’s Hospital, Jubilee Hills, via its 247 emergency transport service. The emergency unit was staffed by skilled medical and nursing teams who are well trained to stabilize and transport babies, with the help of transport incubators and ventilators fitted in a mobile neonatal care unit.

 Journey of the newborn baby:

–        At the time of admission, born preterm and classified as ‘an extremely low birth weight (ELBW) infant’, the newborn faced immediate challenges from birth. On the third day of birth, the X-Ray of the abdomen was done which was suggestive of  due to intestinal perforation.

–        The newborn faced challenges in taking the feed and was hemodynamically stable, as a peritoneal drain (thin tube in the abdomen) was placed initially, but later taken for laparotomy in view of rapid increase in abdominal distention.

–        Intraoperatively large gastric wall perforation was seen, which was repaired, and a feeding jejunostomy (tube to allow feeding through small intestine) was inserted. The feed was then increased gradually as per the infant’s tolerance.

–       During the course of stay, the baby developed abdominal distension, a potentially life-threatening condition. Despite the grave concern, the medical team successfully performed a laparotomy to repair a large gastric wall perforation, and then placed a feeding jejunostomy tube to facilitate feeding.

After two months of intensive care in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), the baby was discharged in a healthy condition, weighing 1.56 kg. The successful outcome was a result of the coordinated efforts of Apollo Cradle’s Pediatric surgery team, led by Dr. Lalatendu Kumar, along with Anesthetist Dr. Vishwanath and team, and the NICU specialist Dr Krishna Swaroop Reddy, Dr K Raja Subba Reddy, and Dr P Shiva Kumar Reddy with the dedicated nursing and paramedical team.

Dr K Lalatendu Kumar, leading Pediatric Surgery expert at Apollo Cradle & Children’s Hospital, said, “Every step of this baby’s journey was a challenge. This case exemplifies the skill and dedication required to manage the most critical and high-risk premature babies. With a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach, our team’s swift intervention in repairing the baby’s large stomach hole and inserting a feeding tube directly into the intestine is a testament to the expertise and compassion of our medical team, and also this tiny fighter‘s indomitable spirit.”

Dr Krishna Swaroop Reddy, Senior Consultant Neonatology and Pediatrics at Apollo Cradle and Children’ hospital “Our eNICU at Apollo Cradle & Children’s Hospital monitored minute details, including medication levels, nutrition, feeding patterns etc. Real-time monitoring of the baby was maintained, which improved clinical outcomes and ensured that world-class treatment was provided to the baby. Our NICU is one of the most advanced and well-equipped unit in the country, staffed with the exceptionally qualified neonatologists who can handle any kind of complication. We are capable of taking care of all the babies, however small they are.”

“We are overwhelmed with gratitude for the incredible care and support our baby received at Apollo Cradle & Children’s Hospital. The medical teamwork was nothing short of miraculous. Thanks to their expertise, our little one is now healthy and thriving well in life. We’ll forever be grateful for everything they did for our family,” said Raja Mohan Reddy and Kavitha, parents of the baby.

Event Summary

The second day of the Literature Live! Mumbai LitFest was bustling with bibliophiles and performing arts connoisseurs. The 15th edition of the festival had a vibrant line-up of artists, honouring and acknowledging their craft. One such artist was the multifaceted singer, playwright, and actress Ila Arun, who has mesmerised everyone with her voice and excerpts from her book.

During the ‘Celebrating Women: The Shashi Baliga Memorial Session: My Medley,’ chaired by RJ and entertainer Gaurav Sharma, Ila Arun unveiled her new book, Parde Ke Peechhey, an autobiography co-written with Anjula Bedi. The book was launched with Ila Arun’s brother and India’s prominent adman Piyush Pandey, Anjula Bedi, actor Vidya Balan and Milee Aishwarya from Penguin Random House India.

The conversation during the book launch was humourous, candid and raw, highlighting Ila Arun’s life as a Rajasthani folk music artist to a theatre performer and one of the most revered singers in India. Gaurav Sharma also read a section dedicated to Vidya Balan from the book, that mentioned how Ila was impressed with Vidya, and how she was the right actress for a biopic of Meenakumari. Anjula Bedi then narrated a section about Ila’s birth date and how her mother wouldn’t remember it until much later.

Vidya Balan and Ila Arun relayed anecdotes of their days on film sets, the pranks they played, how Ila spontaneously performed live with Baol singers, and how she improvised certain songs. The session was further transported by music and dance. Ila Arun performed the traditional Rajasthani folk song, Charkha, where even Vidya Balan joined her onstage. She also rendered a dramatic performance  of Gandhari from the Mahabharata, where she expresses grief over the death of her sons and curses  Krishna.

The session ended with Ila Arun’s daughter Ishitta Arun dedicating a performance on Resham Ka Rumal, and a surprise dance performance by some of her superfans (who dressed in Ila’s style) dancing onstage with Ila Arun and Vidya Balan.

Sohil Shah Claims Maiden Victory in Indian Racing Festival, Boosts Goa Aces JA Racing’s Title Hopes; Sets Up Thrilling Finale

Coimbatore, November 18: Championship contenders Goa Aces JA Racing received a massive boost when Sohil Shah destroyed a high-quality field and delivered a hat-trick of pole position, race win and best lap, in the Indian Racing Festival, promoted by the Racing Promotions Pvt Ltd, at the Kari Motor Speedway here on Saturday.

It was 23-year-old Shah’s first win in the Indian Racing League, and he did it in style beating the likes of veterans Neel Jani (Hyderabad Blackbirds) and Alvaro Parente (Speed Demons Delhi) who came in second and third respectively. However, Parente was docked a five-second penalty and was pushed to P4 with Jon Lancaster (Chennai Turbo Riders) moving up a spot to P3.

The winning margin of 17.156 seconds underlined Shah’s dominating performance that came on the back of several podium finishes this season.

With the sun out and track almost fully dry following rains earlier in the day, it was Shah who roared away from the rolling start and with every lap increased his lead over Jani,Lancaster and Parente who got involved in a close battle.

Behind the front-runners, Shah’s team-mate Shahan Ali Mohsin finished an impressive fifth after starting from P12 to bring more cheer to Goa Aces JA Racing team. However, Shahan dropped to seventh following a 20-second penalty.

“I am very happy with this win today after several podium finishes. It was a good race and am pleased with my performance as the grid had top drivers like Jani, Parente and Lancaster,” said Shah.

The two-day Indian Racing Festival, sponsored by Kingfisher Soda, JK Tyres, Mobil 1 and Megha Engineering & Infrastructure Limited and broadcasted on Star Sports and Fancode.

Formula 4 Indian Championship

South African Aqil Alibhai (Hyderabad Blackbirds) came up with yet another brilliant drive on a drying Kari Motor Speedway track to post his sixth overall and fifth win in a row to consolidate his spot on top of the leaderboard in the FIA-certified Formula 4 Indian Championship.

Finishing in P2 was his closest rival, Ruhaan Alva (Shrachi Rarh Royal Bengal Tigers) who wasted a pole-position start while Canadian Hady Noah Mimassi (Chennai Turbo Riders) completed the podium while also winning the Rookie award besides clocking the best lap of the race.

At the start, Alva made a poor getaway and left the door open at Turn-1 for Alibhai to forge ahead. Thereafter, the South African maintained his lead, literally tiptoeing past the water patches and later the back markers. Behind him Alva settled in second place unable to come close to making a move on Alibhai while Mimassi couldn’t make much headaway and had to be content with P3.

Reflecting on his performance today, table topper Alibhai said: “I am happy to win today. I had a good start but had to be careful due to the water on the track. Towards the end, others were catching up, but I managed to maintain my lead and want to maintain the momentum tomorrow and win the championship.”

27th JK Tyre-FMSCI National Racing Championship

Starting from P2 on the grid, Bengaluru’s Tijil Rao (Dark Don Racing) pulled off yet another win to move closer to the championship title in the 27th JK Tyre-FMSCI National Racing Championship on Saturday at the Kari Motor Speedway.

In a close LGB Formula 4 race, Tijil held off a strong challenge from Chennai’s Saran Vikram Tmars (Momentum Motorsports) while Rookie Dhruvh Goswami (MSPORT) from Bengaluru finished third. Meanwhile, as many as seven drivers failed to finish the incident-filled race.

Royal Enfield Continental GT Cup

Championship leader Navaneeth Kumar S from Puducherry consolidated his position on the points table with one win and a P2 finish in the Royal Enfield Continental GT Cup. His arch-rival, Rohan R from Coimbatore matched the performance to remain in title contention.

Meanwhile, Bengaluru’s Yogesh P also notched a double in the Amateurs category to seal the championship in this class.
