Chennai, 12th April 2024 – In commemoration of World Parkinson’s Day, MGM Healthcare, a multi-speciality quaternary care hospital in the heart of Chennai, conducted a highly informative and impactful awareness session aimed at educating the public about Parkinson’s disease. The event was conducted at MGM Healthcare with participation by neurology experts Dr. U.Meenakshisundaram, Director and Senior Consultant, Department of Neurology, MGM Healthcare, and Dr.Sreenivas U.M., Consultant, Department of Neurology, MGM Healthcare, along with Ms. Vijayshree, Chief Dietician, Department of Dietetics, MGM Healthcare and Dr. Rajendran AJ, Clinical Lead, Dept of Rehabilitation Medicine, MGM Healthcare to shed light on this disorder and how to cope with it.

Parkinson’s disease affects millions of people worldwide, with a rising incidence in India. Raising awareness about the disease, including its symptoms, mode of diagnosis, and treatment options is crucial. The awareness session was presented by renowned neurologists from MGM Healthcare, who shared insights into the latest advancements in Parkinson’s research, treatment options, and strategies for improving the quality of life for patients.

The awareness session also highlighted the importance of early detection, proper medication adherence, and the role of physical therapy and lifestyle modifications in managing the symptoms of Parkinson’s.

The Welcome address for the Parkinson’s awareness day was delivered by Dr. U.Meenakshisundaram, Director and Senior Consultant, Department of Neurology, MGM Healthcare, following which a yoga exercise session was conducted, to help people with Parkinson’s to improve their balance and mobility.

Dr.Sreenivas U.M., Consultant, Department of Neurology, MGM Healthcare, presented a short insight about the Parkinson’s Disease, including recent research and treatment developments. This was followed by a session on Nutrition for Parkinson’s by Ms. Vijayashree, Chief Dietician, Department of Dietetics, MGM Healthcare.

With every model release, Tresa is inching closer to its engineering, efficiency, reliability, and manufacturing targets. With V0.2, Tresa is slated to test India’s first and global industry-leading, Centralized Computing Unit, Advanced Telemetry System, 800V (peak) modular battery packs with in-house BMS, new central steering system, in-house designed DRLs, and its first version of Heat Pump (for all cooling requirements including cabin air-conditioning).

Most modern vehicles, including EVs, use multiple (sometimes 100s) ECUs to control their sub-systems. Tresa is integrating these ECUs with its zonal architecture, where its NVIDIA GPU-driven Centralized Computing Unit takes most of the load. Tresa’s CCU is designed to take the load of the majority of its control, AI, and telematics requirements. The telematics systems will stream over 500 monitoring points to the cloud for constant performance, safety, and efficiency analytics.

City School embarks on DEAR a novel initiative to cultivate book reading culture among pre-primary & primary* students

Hyderabad, 12th April 2024 …….. DEAR-Drop Everything And Read, a unique program to cultivate the habit of reading, particularly among pre-primary *& primary* kids announced by a city school, St. Peter’s High School.

In a press note issued in Hyderabad on Thursday, Dr. K. Suvarna, Principal of the Bowenpally-based school said the initiative is planned for 13th April Saturday at 8.30 am for about an hour. This will be held for the kids of Nursery till ~3rd~ 5th class.

We have invited the entire strength of class Nursery to ~3rd~ 5th which is about 800+, out of which we expect 200 + kids and parents to turn up for this unique initiative, Dr Suvarna added.

This is an initiative to enable children to read books along with their parents. For this purpose, the entire school campus will be turned into a reading zone. *Theme-based reading corners are being set up*, where kids will read books along with their parents, added Mr. T. Alphonse Reddy, Correspondent of the school.

The school also has another distinction of having ‘Reading’ as a subject *in its academic curriculum*. A dedicated period is kept for *Nursery to Class III* to read the choice of their book or literature during the hour.

Reading is important because it develops the mind and gives knowledge and lessons of life. But, reading habit is slowly and steadily decreasing. Technology is impacting how we read and write. With smartphones, tablets, and e-readers, children have become ‘screenagers'(using mobile, tablet, PC, Laptop, OTT, TV, Cinema and many other such screens). It is no big surprise that kids of the day read more digitally. This shift in reading habits has prompted much discussion about the future of book reading. In this light of background, the school which is known for innovative initiatives like this in the past has come out with DEAR-Drop Everything And Read initiative. This is a novel initiative launched probably for the first time in the country.

St. Peter’s High School, Bowenally, Hyderabad is probably the first of its kind school in India to come up with such a bold initiative and introduce “Reading” as a subject, said Mr T. Alphonse Reddy, Correspondent.

It is an initiative with multiple objectives. The idea behind this initiative is to de-addict kids using devices extensively, increase family bonding, and encourage parents to spend at least 15 minutes a day reading together with their kid/s.

Reading should be made a compulsory subject in school says Dr Suvarna. Reading not only improves grades and academic performance but also nurtures kids to become good citizens, informs Dr Suvarna.

How will reading as a subject work? Dr Suvarna says the research shows that kids need help to read independently and with pleasure, which will lower the role of the teachers in the primary teaching setup.

Mumbai, 12th April 2024 On World Parkinson’s Day, Wockhardt Hospitals Mumbai Central hosted a Parkinson’s disease awareness workshop, its symptoms, and available treatment options. Dr. Sheetal Goyal, Senior Neurologist at Wockhardt Hospitals Mumbai Central, led the discussion, highlighting key aspects of Parkinson’s disease and the hospital’s approach to managing this condition.

Parkinson’s disease is a neurodegenerative disorder that primarily affects movement. She elaborated on the presentation of Parkinson’s disease, emphasizing its hallmark symptoms such as tremors, rigidity, bradykinesia (slowed movement), and postural instability.

During the briefing, Dr. Goyal also addressed the challenge of differentiating Parkinson’s disease from other conditions that mimic its symptoms. “Parkinson’s disease shares symptoms with several other neurological disorders, including essential tremor, multiple system atrophy, and drug-induced Parkinsonism,” she explained. “This similarity underscores the importance of accurate diagnosis by a qualified neurologist.”

Recognizing the early signs of Parkinson’s disease is crucial for timely intervention and management. Dr. Goyal highlighted common early symptoms such as subtle changes in handwriting, decreased sense of smell, sleep disturbances, and mood changes. “Awareness of these early signs can prompt individuals to seek medical attention sooner, facilitating early diagnosis and initiation of appropriate treatment,” she emphasized.

Despite advancements in medical knowledge, Parkinson’s disease is often missed or diagnosed late. She attributed this to various factors including the non-specific nature of early symptoms, lack of awareness among both patients and healthcare providers, and cultural stigmas associated with neurological disorders. “Improving public education and healthcare infrastructure for neurological conditions is essential to address this issue,” Dr. Goyal remarked.

Discussing treatment options, she highlighted that besides traditional medication, several non-pharmacological interventions can help manage Parkinson’s disease effectively. “Physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and deep brain stimulation are among the adjunctive treatments that can significantly improve the quality of life for individuals with Parkinson’s disease,” she noted.

From remote villages to jobs with MNCs,these women are breaking barriers

Nisha Dahiya from Bhaiswahi, a remote village in Katni district of Madhya Pradesh, was forced to discontinue studies after the intermediate level because of financial constraints. But she did not lose hope.

In June 2023, she came to know about the Adani Skill Development Centre in Kymore and enrolled herself. After completing a course in the warehouse packers’ domain, where she learnt new skills, she bagged a job at multinational company Amazon India in September last year. Nisha, now 22, is a warehouse executive with a monthly salary of Rs 18,000. While supporting her family, she wants to save some money to be able to renovate the family home.

Like Nisha, Swati Patel, from Dithwara in Katni, also took up the same course at the Saksham centre in Kymore. Recently, she also landed a job with Amazon India,

Swati’s sister Priyanka is a beauty therapist and runs her own parlour. Priyanka had completed a beautician’s course from the same Saksham centre. “My sister and I are grateful to the Adani Foundation for training us to become financially independent and self-reliant,” Swati says.

Last year, 13 women from the warehouse packers’ batch, which had 16 women and 4 men trainees, got placed in Amazon India at Sanand, Gujarat.

Nisha, Swati, and Priyanka are setting a shining example for the multitude of women from remote villages who have limited opportunities. The time they spent at the skill development centre prepared them to secure their future and create a better life for their families.

More than 40 Skill Development Centres are run by the Adani Foundation across 15 states. As part of the Saksham initiative, these centres impart training to youth to make them job-ready. So far, the centres have trained around 1.4 lakh youth across the country.

Adani’s Skill Development Centres train youth in over 70 job roles and skills, like domestic electrician, domestic wiring, tailoring, retail sales, digital literacy, patient care assistant, fire safety, welding and multipurpose crane operations. Fundamentals of artificial intelligence and aspects of Metaverse are also covered as part of these courses.

Spread over 60,000 square feet, this new fulfillment center has the dispatch capacity of over 9,000 orders per day across Hubli and its neighboring regions, such as Ballari, Davanagere, Dharwad, Shivamogga, as well as those in South and North Goa. The launch of the new fulfillment center underscores Flipkart’s commitment to providing consumers convenient access to a diverse range of quality grocery products spanning categories like dairy, beverages, staples, cleaning aids, health & beauty, and general merchandise.

Instead of SuperCoins, Flipkart also offers a ‘Grocery Pass’, thereby making the overall shopping experience more rewarding for its consumers.
